With Johnny Depp officially set to star, work is moving forward on Warner Bros.' anticipated sci-fi film Transcendence. Wally Pfister, best known for cinematography on Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy, will make his directorial debut here. Last night, we learned that Paul Bettany (The Avengers, A Beautiful Mind) was negotiating to play a scientist in the movie, and now the studio has set a release date: April 25th, 2014. Transcendence does not have any competition on that date, although The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens a week later on May 2nd. Little is known about the film's plot, but it apparently follows three scientists, one of whom (played by Depp) will have his mind uploaded onto a supercomputer. Filming is expected to begin next month. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are on board as executive producers.
