Here's some disappointing news for fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. After the recent wrap of Season 5 on Cartoon Network, it was expected that the series would move to Disney XD after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. However, a new post on the official Star Wars website confirms that the very successful animated show has come to an end, but promises new Clone Wars story arcs despite episodes no longer being in production. Additionally, a new animated series is in the works, which is set in a time period that hasn't been touched on before in the Star Wars franchise. Finally, the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green has been postponed to a later date, as Lucasfilm reconsidered launching it shortly before the release of Episode VII in 2015. Below is the official announcement.

As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we're continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we've decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.

We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV. Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.

Good news.
hope420 - 3/11/2013, 10:34 AM
I just wish they would cancel Detours!!!!
Gmoney84 - 3/11/2013, 10:42 AM
So, what happened to Ahsoka?
myparentsaredead - 3/11/2013, 10:42 AM
What the [frick]? Is there gonna be another season to finish off the Maul arc and stuff like that, or was that Ahsoka shit the end of the series?
darthmyke - 3/11/2013, 10:55 AM
did someone knows what the hell happened with darth maul after the battle on mandalore with sidious?
KaneVonDoom - 3/11/2013, 10:56 AM
It was said that the Series would last at least 100 episodes... which puts that in the middle of Season 5. As far as I know, that has always been the plan and I haven't heard anything about 8 seasons although I could be wrong.

If they follow through with that intent, this wouldn't mean the show is "just getting cancelled". I means it's coming to a close, done.
nibs - 3/11/2013, 10:58 AM
I thought 5 seasons was the plan from the start?
And if they changed their minds at some point to make more than that, then this is good news since it means we're not getting a stretched out series to make extra doll-hairs. Besides, 110 eps is a lot, and I plan on watching in it's entirety at least once (only done the first seasons so far), so give me something new.
Plus, you can keep Detours, Robot Chicken is stupid.
JoeMomma29 - 3/11/2013, 11:01 AM
Yeah this suck! I guess the only entertain left is to post pictures of Gusto!

MrMartinMarvel - 3/11/2013, 11:02 AM
So are they going to finish the show or is it just cancelled?
TrollHunter - 3/11/2013, 11:05 AM
"...the studio is no longer producing new episodes for CARTOON NETWORK..."

The key word there is Cartoon Network. Maybe they mean they will air the new episodes on Disney XD. What I don't like though is them referring to these new Arcs as just "Bonus Content". That worries me. If its a theatrical release though? I'm game. Ultimately this is good I guess because The Clone Wars can get a proper ending and isn't just being outright cancelled.

I am excited by the new Animated Series that they are teasing. I down for a series taking place between Episodes 3 and 4 starring Asohka Tano.
TrollHunter - 3/11/2013, 11:07 AM
@ MrMartinMarvel

It seems finish the show. Did you see the clip Dave Filoni showed in the video? They clearly have more episodes. Plus there were episodes made for Season 5 that were cut and are going to premiere in this final season.
Danbojohnj - 3/11/2013, 11:09 AM
They always said the were going to be about 100 episodes before they started, then they would do the live action TV show.Fek knows whats going on with that though.
ndwwrestler2 - 3/11/2013, 11:10 AM
"Additionally, a new animated series is in the works, which is set in a time period that hasn't been touched on before in the Star Wars franchise"

It would be really cool if the animated series took place after ROTJ. I really love the Clone Wars show. It's way better then the prequels to me, and they did a good job of making characters interesting, which the Prequel movies failed to do.
RetroFit - 3/11/2013, 11:15 AM
This cartoon had the best space and fighting action sequences in Star Wars history. Dave Filoni did an AMAZING job.
parkerray - 3/11/2013, 11:22 AM
Damn. Damn. F*%#. Damn.
parkerray - 3/11/2013, 11:23 AM
@Retro agreed.
third3ye - 3/11/2013, 11:28 AM
Me thinks they'll do one or two more seasons on DXD before ending the series.
ClarkFarley2012 - 3/11/2013, 11:29 AM
Yes it's time to move on from Clone Wars but they didn't have to leave us hanging like that.
Inohaku - 3/11/2013, 11:30 AM
Love Clone Wars!! Makes sense to finish now with Ashoka leaving the order instead of killing her, smart move.

Can't wait to see all they have in store for us!!
jjk2814 - 3/11/2013, 11:41 AM
We all knew it wouldn't continue on Cartoon Network. They show an awesome clip from a future story arc so we can all rest assured; its not over yet.
AnungUnRama - 3/11/2013, 11:47 AM
6 seasons would be great as there a 6 years to bridge between E2 and E3. Arent' there?
Wingding - 3/11/2013, 11:51 AM
Good
polarkyle - 3/11/2013, 11:51 AM
so how's that live action star wars show coming along
BlackWarrior - 3/11/2013, 12:17 PM
As the article says, Clone Wars will have more episodes just not on cartoon network... Guessing on Disney XD or online...
TheAbomination - 3/11/2013, 12:22 PM
I knew it was only a matter of time before the Clone Wars show would end. It was an amazing series. Let's hope this replacement is just as good.
FoxForce5 - 3/11/2013, 12:33 PM
Boo!!! That sucks! So, what good show gets canceled next? There's really not a ton of (good) sic-fi stuff left on TV... -Oh well, here's looking forward to S.H.I.E.L.D.
fettastic - 3/11/2013, 12:45 PM
That Star Wars Detours thing looked like something I flushed this morning.
fettastic - 3/11/2013, 12:45 PM
From what I understood, Lucasfilm had 7 seasons plotted out very early on, so they are changing their plans.
fettastic - 3/11/2013, 12:48 PM
Please PLEASE GOD let the new show exist in the Knights of the Old Republic time frame.

Paul mistakenly characterizes this show as neever before being touched on in the Star Wars franchise while the actual press release very specifically says it has never been seen before in Star Wars FILMS OR TELEVISION. To me that is very deliberate wording.
AnotherSinisterClone - 3/11/2013, 12:58 PM
"whats that? this show is very well liked by both kids & parents? oh and it sells toys? and the ratings are reviews are good? CANCEL IT! if tv gets good, there will be expectations" - tv exec. and f--k cartoon network. can someone post a south park pic of Lucas raping Indiana on the pinball machine? cuz that's how i feel
AnotherSinisterClone - 3/11/2013, 12:59 PM
oh, and someone at Amazon knew early, all the seasons of Clone Wars were 62% off last week
SkywayTraffic - 3/11/2013, 12:59 PM
That's a shame. Detours looked effing hilarious.
grifdeadpoolteabag - 3/11/2013, 1:06 PM
I hope everything related to the damn prequels is being washed away and memory holed.
DarthGoodGuy - 3/11/2013, 1:09 PM
Key words, "We are EXPLORING a whole new STAR WARS series..." not, We are PRODUCING a new series. Big difference. Either way, damn just when things were getting interesting...
parkerray - 3/11/2013, 1:19 PM
^Yeah EXPLORING and BONUS CONTENT are not exactly silver linings. No matter how it's spun.
parkerray - 3/11/2013, 1:32 PM
I NEVER would've thought I could care about the Prequels any more than the way I can enjoy something B-movie like Howard the Duck.

But this cartoon made me so invested in those characters, changed the way I view the movies, made me see so much good I hadn't seen through the flaws.
PeterParker1991 - 3/11/2013, 1:36 PM
Good news. Clone Wars was good but too long at the same time. Asoka left at the end of Season Five and it felt like a series finale anyway. I hope this "new" series features Luke and building the Jedi Academy and in season two, introduce Mara Jade
PeterParker1991 - 3/11/2013, 1:39 PM
Bring on a Force Unleashed or KOTOR series!!!!
nach1wan - 3/11/2013, 1:41 PM
@AnungUnRama nope, just 3 years. it was already streched thin as it was. too much stuff in 3 years. but i didnt care, goddamnid
jjk2814 - 3/11/2013, 2:39 PM
There is some intelligence behind this...I hope Detours never is released it looked soooo bad.

And Filoni said it best; "It's not over yet!"
DRMidNite - 3/11/2013, 2:42 PM
Those [frick]ers...
Todd Gray - 3/11/2013, 4:42 PM
Don't know why they can't just do a solid 90 minute to two hour movie and end the series and let it flow into the Star Wars timeline of Return of the Sith.

Apparently, they don;t want to invest any more money into making regular seasons but want to milk this with a few extra small movies, which will, IMO, lose the cohesion of the original story arc and will just confuse and go off track.
SamHell - 3/11/2013, 6:00 PM
Episode 3.5 would be nice
parkerray - 3/12/2013, 2:01 AM
I fully agree with everything said on this page.
papacoe80 - 3/12/2013, 3:03 AM
Fudging Sucks....I knew this would happen.....Lucas is yet again Fudging up Star Wars while filling his pockets full of money....and rather than directing it's through his selling.....well, that's it....I'm done with this.
They can all sit on it and swivel...i'm done with this franchise
papacoe80 - 3/12/2013, 3:05 AM
George Lucas Kills Star Wars
Rambaldi47 - 3/12/2013, 1:03 PM
This sooks. I really wanted the show to get another season to wrap up Maul's story, and have the show end by flowing right into Episode III. I want to see how Palpatine orchestrated his own kidnapping and started the battle over Coruscant. And I want to know what becomes of Ventress. Could she appear in a live-action film that takes place between Episodes 3 & 4? That would be amazing. And a live-action Ahsoka too.
