James McAvoy Talks X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, Says Charles Xavier's Journey Will Be 'Dark'

Speaking with Shortlist, actor James McAvoy talks more about his return as Professor Charles Xavier in next year's X-Men: Days Of Future Past. He reveals that the character will be very different from when we last saw him in 2011's First Class, and that the Bryan Singer-directed "inbetweenquel" will see Xavier face a 'dark journey'. "I think it’s going to be quite a dark journey compared to the caddish, almost playboy character that we turned him into in the first movie. I think it will be going through a darker place to ultimately get a sorted Professor X that we’re used to seeing come the third movie. This movie might be a little bit more of a passing through the crucible for him." He also expresses his excitement for the film's ensemble cast, which mostly includes actors from First Class and the original X-Men trilogy. "It’s going to be a humongous cast. It’s going to be like the cast of the beach scenes in Saving Private Ryan but everyone’s a mutant and everyone you’ve seen in other movies before." You can watch Shortlist's full interview with McAvoy by clicking HERE.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult and Omar Sy. The film is set to hit theaters July 18th, 2014.

Hoping for the best, but I'm scared as hell this will be a clustered mess. Prove my fears wrong Singer.

Yeah yeah it's dark. Everything is dark, every movie is dark. My room is dark when I turn the light off. What does that even mean anymore? And why is it cause to rejoice among fans? When is a movie not dark these days?
TheBlackWolverine - 3/12/2013, 11:51 AM
This film has soooooo much potential to be one of the greatest superhero flicks of all time. I honestly believe that the Avengers has met it's match.

I'm going with team fox for the win of best superhero flick for summer 2014.

gambgel - 3/12/2013, 12:01 PM
interesting quote. wonder what dark stuff young Xavier will deal with
sephiroth211 - 3/12/2013, 12:02 PM
Indeed you two, Evil Dead looks like it will please. I'm just hoping we get another badass Ash type character outta this. Maybe they can make it a girl this time, and while she is floating around in the timestream she can meet the male Ash. A fan can only hope right.

@batz11

Same here bro!!! Gotta see it when it comes out! Take it easy out there man!!

TheBlackWolverine - 3/12/2013, 12:03 PM
Speaking of X-Men and all, has anyone had the chance to check out the new Deadpool video game trailer that was just released a few days ago??

MisterNiceGuy - 3/12/2013, 12:04 PM
They should just put an end to this madness already. [frick] this. Just wait a few years than bring on the reboot . I can't take any more of these crappy movies
fettastic - 3/12/2013, 12:11 PM
Why don't we just take every franchise and turn them into horror movies?

In a very special episode of Dora the Explorer, Dora has to deal with a traumatic rape which causes her to become pregnant. What will she do?

Followed by Barney: The Hunted.
TheBlackWolverine - 3/12/2013, 12:13 PM
@gambgel

I was wondering the same exact thing bro. When he speaks of "dark" is he possible referring to his connection with other mutants or perhaps coming across a threat in which he may not be able to comprehend. What if he accidentally comes across Apocalypse's conscious? He could really get f***'d up by doing that...

ElDarkside - 3/12/2013, 12:14 PM
This term "dark" is being thrown around a lot lately, basically since batman begins.

Ultimately with this movie, I think it means the movie will be more serious and have less jokes, laughs and not have much in terms of love stories and sappy shite...

Just serious effin badassery!!!

Things I'm most looking forward too:
1. Xmen vs. sentinels
2. Past (60s,70s) xmen meeting new xmen (2000,2010s) and that dynamic
3. Kitty pride and wolverine teaming up
4. Peter Dinklage - if you have seen game of thrones, you know exactly what I mean. This guy is an incredible actor

Nomadic1 - 3/12/2013, 12:21 PM
This movie scares the shit out of me. So much to correct in one movie. Now, the idea that Apocalypse might be in it, scares me more than Gusto on a bender.

Although, I'd love to hear this spoken by Apocalypse, "Look upon me and tremble...for I bring the purity of oblivion to your world." Best freakin quote ever.
DurtyTalynt - 3/12/2013, 12:23 PM
More mutants in old navy clothes. Unrecognizeable and cheaply done. Theres no way this movie will have any money. The only action film fox gave budgets to is the die hard franchise. Its ok for john mclain to do tripple x stunts but rogue can only hope someone is dumb enough to let her touch them. And iceman only blows snow. Storm turns her eyes white and logan gets his ass kicked every fight scene. Choregraphy is terrible in these movies. How many characters are gonna do that recycled spin in the air
MrMartinMarvel - 3/12/2013, 12:24 PM
Still not excited.

Just found out how gangsta Gusto really is.

All I can hear is this song when I look at those gifs. Come on Gusto, sing along!!!

fettastic - 3/12/2013, 1:03 PM
OH GOD I used to hate getting rick-rolled! Thank Christ that shit's over!

Whatever happened to that guy? Was he ever beaten up and left bleeding in the gutter?
SlaveMasterFlexXx - 3/12/2013, 2:20 PM
Shut McAvoy you obviously no nothing about this movie! Thanks for getting our hopes up about Nightcrawler.
OrgasmicPotatoe - 3/12/2013, 2:25 PM
"It’s going to be a humongous cast. It’s going to be like the cast of the beach scenes in Saving Private Ryan but everyone’s a mutant and everyone you’ve seen in other movies before."

I CAN LIVE WITH THAT !

This might turn out to be condensed shit, or condensed awesomeness.
LordOfTheZegaRealm - 3/12/2013, 3:09 PM
This movie is going to be biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig!
Franshu - 3/12/2013, 3:22 PM
He hasnt read the script yet, he said that himself.--- so, take what he said with a grain of salt.
Superguy15 - 3/12/2013, 3:27 PM
I'm fine if it's dark, but I hope they don't take that grounded, realistic approach.

That wouldn't work for X-Men, especially a time-travel story.
Azazel1 - 3/12/2013, 3:30 PM
This movie has such potential to completely OWN!
NeoBaggins - 3/12/2013, 4:23 PM
Oh golly, he said "dark journey", "dark place" and "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN"! The movie will be wicket cool lol James, sit yo ass down. First Class was good enough to get me to see a sequel, you don't have to sell it with the cliche DARK angle and Saving Private Ryan. All I can think about is THIS when you say that...

UltimateTypeface - 3/12/2013, 7:45 PM
Did he say a third movie?
UltimateTypeface - 3/12/2013, 7:46 PM
Age of Apocalypse!
Foxpaw - 3/13/2013, 5:54 AM
Well I can't imagine Professor X skipping around with joy while he's paralyzed - by his treacherous best friend who ran off with his adopted sister - and is hated more than Jews and gays combined by humanity, and is being harassed by time traveling mutants and dwarves that build super robots that are designed to hunt him and everyone he cares for down. Dark times indeed.
timotey - 3/13/2013, 12:08 PM
@Franshu: No, he hasn't read the script yet but he has been in contact with Simon Kinberg who asked for his imput regarding Charles.
maito - 3/13/2013, 1:41 PM
