Godzilla-Movies and YVRShoots have posted the following set photos (which will likely be the first of many) from the set of Legendary Pictures' Godzilla 3D reboot, which began production in British Columbia yesterday. As you can see, the first image features a military helicopter which has clearly seen better days after an encounter with the iconic monster. The others show what look to be an airport terminal in Japan. Additionally, Legendary posted the following video on their Facebook page with a greeting from director Gareth Edwards. Stay tuned to CBM for more news as we have it.

Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The film is set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014.

They will kill this film for me if they use a giant lizard again. i also do not want to see a massive dump of cgi. I think it ruins the acting for me.
HellsHammer - 3/19/2013, 1:53 PM
Please be great

@sKeemAn - 3/19/2013, 1:47 PM

Thought Godzilla is supposed to be a "giant lizard". And not a dinosaur like in the previous Hollywood remake.
JoeMomma29 - 3/19/2013, 1:56 PM
Hmmm maybe just maybe we can get a King Kong cameo!
Ocelot - 3/19/2013, 1:57 PM
just want to see godzilla wrecking shit up, using his atomic breath, fighting other monsters, not the recycled, repetitive and boring U.S military. I'll cause a riot in the cinema if the military take down godzilla in the film, should never ever happen
jessepostal - 3/19/2013, 1:58 PM
Going godzillaing is the new goin squatchin

They better have a guy in a suit!
OniGoji - 3/19/2013, 2:01 PM
@Seejay

Godzilla 1998 was a giant mutated iguana, that's pretty much a giant lizard.

Toho's Godzilla is a dinosaur. But a different kind.

Toho's Godzilla is a variation mixture of different dinosaurs, the icon doesn't have a particular specific saurian relation to any obvious or common dinosaur. And due to the times back then and the lacking of proper knowledge on dinosaurs, Godzilla was a dinosaurian creature that walked upright. (Just a bit of extra info)

Godzilla?
Pfft...pansy!

Bojac - 3/19/2013, 2:02 PM
@SeeJay, Godzilla in the 90s movie was a mutated Iguana.
theSHOCKER - 3/19/2013, 2:03 PM
Say hello to my lil friend.
sKeemAn - 3/19/2013, 2:04 PM
@seejay

The last Godzilla was a Giant Lizard, laying eggs all over NY. I'd rather have a man in a Godzilla suit crushing shit.

fettastic - 3/19/2013, 2:04 PM
The old Toho Godzilla films are pretty unbearable now. I thought the Emmerich Godzilla was pretty entertaining despite a few cringe moments. I'm definitely down for another whack at it.
Ocelot - 3/19/2013, 2:06 PM
@Seejay Godzilla has always been presented as a prehistoric creature, the orginal toho japanese film established that. It was the 1998 crapfest zilla, which established that godzilla was orginally a [frick]ing iguana. The origin that godzilla is prehistoric dinosaur/creature is far better than a mutated lizard.
OrgasmicPotatoe - 3/19/2013, 2:07 PM
Dude, the helicopter is no mega spoiler. If anything, it'll be one minute from the movie. Or he blows some shit up, and the helicopter gets destroyed in the ensuing explosion.

Too many assumptions from such little information.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/19/2013, 2:10 PM
So happy this doesn't take place in America.
fettastic - 3/19/2013, 2:11 PM
I remember how butthurt fans were about the Sony film. They were screaming about how their hero had been raped, blah blah blah. Then Toho announced they were making their own Godzilla movie and would launch it in US theaters just to show us bastard round-eyes how to do it. There was a collective cry of "[frick] YEAH!" heard 'round the geek forums.

Then it came out and was just....well it was just as ridiculous as all Toho's other Godzilla films. It bombed horrifically of course and even the butthurt fans had to admit it sucked ass.

I'm just saying, the shit ain't exactly Lawrence of Arabia.
Ocelot - 3/19/2013, 2:14 PM
Godzilla was orginally a godzillasaurus

OniGoji - 3/19/2013, 2:23 PM
@Feettastic

Actually, those "butthurt fans" found Godzilla 2000 to be an average Godzilla film, it was a emergency recovery after the crapfest that was GINO that could have baked a little longer before being put out.

And actually, it didn't bomb since it was a moderate success in Japan, which is the only place that Toho truly cared about. Because of that, Toho had already covered the film's budget and more. The U.S release was just extra cash on the side to them and grossed more here than they did in Japan during its opening week. In both countries it was received in a mixed manner, Japan, while found it to be better than GINO, didn't find it to be all that great. While in the U.S, it was received slightly more positive.
ThatOneDude - 3/19/2013, 2:28 PM
Godzilla was established as its own species that was mutated...

Anyways is that a giant missle I see?

Pssh that ain't shit!
CaptainProg - 3/19/2013, 2:32 PM
I see Asians!! Already true to the source material!
Destroyer14 - 3/19/2013, 2:40 PM
GODZILLA 2000 is awesome.

It's good to see these set images and the director commenting on the movie. Looks like Japan will be part of the film.
BboiBlack - 3/19/2013, 2:40 PM
There's going to be lots of explosions...remember how you fan boys hate that stuff.
marvel72 - 3/19/2013, 3:00 PM
please be good-please be good-please be good
Superguy15 - 3/19/2013, 3:02 PM
Can't wait for the trailer...

And, like Man of Steel and The Wolverine, I can't wait for the marketing to get started for this. Wonder if there will be a toy line?
LordOfTheZegaRealm - 3/19/2013, 3:26 PM
Congratulations for doing Godzilla for the umpteenth time!
MisterNiceGuy - 3/19/2013, 3:37 PM
do we know what Godzilla is going to look like yet?
OrgasmicPotatoe - 3/19/2013, 3:47 PM
@MisterNiceGuy I saw somewhere this picture was what they were going for.

Okay, no really, I think Legendary released this at last Comic-Con, I guess we can expect something like this

thatcoldblackcloud - 3/19/2013, 3:56 PM
Movie gonna be terrible
MisterNiceGuy - 3/19/2013, 4:05 PM
I think Giant monster movies are going to be the new Hollywood trend now. CBM's will still have there moments but they will be sharing the spotlight with movies like Godzilla, Power Rangers, Gundam and shit like that.
Joe6Pack74 - 3/19/2013, 4:11 PM
There better be a Japanese guy singing for no reason.
Bigred20 - 3/19/2013, 4:25 PM
what if this is the climax
the main characters r pursuing it along with the government and it rips thru this building
i mean they have a pretty big [frick]ing missile on that train there
something that size would be used as a last resort
Bigred20 - 3/19/2013, 4:26 PM
i think this is also the building where Oliver Queen
had his huge coming back from the dead party
SuperCat - 3/19/2013, 4:50 PM
I thought the first movie design of Godzilla was actually pretty good. The movie just sucked.
TankD - 3/19/2013, 5:38 PM
@Mr.Reese that shit is priceless
beane2099 - 3/19/2013, 6:55 PM
Controlling for 1) special effects quality (which is really all Sony's pic had going for it) 2) film budgets and 3) the vicissitudes of Japanese vs American film making sensibilities, the fundamental difference between Toho and Sony's Godzillas is that Toho's Godzilla was a force of nature whereas Sony's Godzilla was a freak of nature (Born pregnant?? Really?). Toho's Godzilla incorporated themes like World War II, Pollution, the Cold War, and biological warfare (and occasional alien invasions of course) whereas Sony's Godzilla incorporated half the cast of the Simpsons, a running Siskel & Ebert gag, and Jurassic Park's velociraptors.

To be honest, if Sony had called their movie anything but Godzilla or at least kept the look of the creature the same, no one would have kicked up a fuss. But the fact is, all they wanted was the name. What Sony did was akin making a James Bond film but instead of a good looking British ladies man, we get a middle aged pot bellied Bostonian and then defending that choice by saying "Well Boston is NEW England so that's sort of the same thing right?". Feel free to use your internet colloquialisms like "butt hurt" or "fanboy" or whatever tickles your fancy.

take my money!

*fingers crossed* I hope they don't f**k it up!!!! >_<
ralfinader - 3/19/2013, 7:33 PM
Loved me some Saturday morning Godzilla on the Creature Feature. Hated that Ferris Bueller version, and curios to see what a modern big budget Godzilla might look like. Hopefully not a [frick]ing iguana and more like the one from that pic posted by Orgasmic Potatoe.
Brady1138 - 3/19/2013, 8:35 PM
@Seejay

You've got it backwards. In the original Japanese version, Godzilla was an ancient dinosaur who survived the extinction and was awoken by the H-Bomb. The 1998 version had Godzilla as a mutated iguana (yeah...).
fettastic - 3/19/2013, 9:33 PM
@OniGoji, WOW you have really deluded yourself!

Sony's Godzilla film make $379M!
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=godzilla.htm

Godzilla 2000 cost $13M to make.....and couldn't even make that back WORLDWIDE! It LOST millions and millions and millions of dollars!
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=godzilla2000.htm
fettastic - 3/19/2013, 9:38 PM
And the 1998 Godzilla was not a mutated iguana. It didn't say what it was. It implied that the nuclear testing at Bikini Atol and subsequent fallout was responsible. By the way, a nuclear origin was at the insistence of Toho. So unless you're going to have a nuke crack open the ocean floor and Godzilla come swimming out, I don't know how else to do it.

There's not a way to do it that's not retarded in other words. That's why Emmerich chose to keep it vague.
FreakingIntelligentRobertGriffin - 3/19/2013, 9:47 PM
I want King Kong vs Godzilla.
