David S. Goyer Discusses Working On Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA Reboot
Writer-director David Goyer (Blade, Man Of Steel) comments on "script doctoring" the next Godzilla movie, saying that he jumped at the chance to work on the reboot but his busy schedule kept him from being too heavily involved.
Speaking with Collider, writer-director David S. Goyer talks about his work on Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot. The screenwriter (known for working on comic book movies such as Blade, The Dark Knight Trilogy and this summer's Man Of Steel) was one of several scribes who worked on the monster film's script, including Frank Darabont and David Callaham. Goyer says that he didn't work on the project too heavily, and despite jumping at the chance to be involved, his busy schedule only allowed him to do 3-4 weeks of script doctoring. "[I was involved with Godzilla] a little bit. I mean I did three or four weeks of work on Godzilla, it wasn’t a page-one rewrite or anything like that. The term is ‘script doctoring,’ is what I did on it.
"I did jump at the chance [to do it] but one of the reasons why I only did three weeks was because I was very busy. The good news/bad news about where I’m at in my career now is I get offered a lot of cool things and I can’t always work on them because my dance card’s often full. I’ve definitely had to — there’ve been some ones that have gotten away that I wish I could’ve worked on." Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The film is set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014.
