Even though writer-director Joss Whedon finished filming Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot for ABC back in February, we now have confirmation of another addition to the cast, and this one has worked with The Avengers helmer in the past. According to TV Line, Whedon has cast J. August Richards (who was in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer spin-off Angel, which was also created by Whedon) in what's called a "super top-secret role." The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot also stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge Iain De Caestecker and Brett Dalton. It hasn't been confirmed whether or not the pilot will go to series, but it is expected to air on ABC sometime this fall. Who do you think Richards is playing?

May be PowerMan or BlackPanther
kevberg - 4/5/2013, 12:01 PM
Is it a villain or SHEILD agent? I can't see him playing Gabe Jones ( character is too old) .
He wasn't buff enough for Power-man....hmmmm
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/5/2013, 12:02 PM
Hmmmm....MAYBE a younger Nick Fury (a flash-back sequence, perhaps)? Or perhaps another hero (a street-leveled hero, or an A-list hero). We shall soon see. But all in all, I'm just excited for this. Here's to hoping that this turns into a series.
Ocelot - 4/5/2013, 12:03 PM
he'll either be shield agent or a villian, he wont be a big character like cage or panther
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/5/2013, 12:04 PM
@Nomis - Actually, that ain't that far of a stretch. I wouldn't mind seeing Nick Fury's son coming on and teaming up alongside Coulson. That'd be pretty badass, really.
JohnnyRoss - 4/5/2013, 12:05 PM
I think a young Nick Fury in flash-backs is a good guess.
MrMartinMarvel - 4/5/2013, 12:08 PM
Quite frankly I think they should make Marcus Fury look like a young, classic 616 Nick Fury seeing how we already have a black Nick Fury in the MCU.
JerBear - 4/5/2013, 12:08 PM
Young Nick Fury? If he bulks up I can see him as Luke Cage.
jerryblake - 4/5/2013, 12:13 PM
i think he is playing younger version of Robert Redford character
gambgel - 4/5/2013, 12:17 PM
I HOPE he isnt Black Panther introduced first on a tv show
IIIAdamantiumIII - 4/5/2013, 12:18 PM
Black Panther maybe ? jr nick fury ? luke cage ? WHO KNOWS!?
Mandoman - 4/5/2013, 12:20 PM
My boy, Gunn. Yeah!
jazzman - 4/5/2013, 12:21 PM
he is just going to be a made up new Agent
80sFace - 4/5/2013, 12:23 PM
Cloak?
jerryblake - 4/5/2013, 12:24 PM
Dagger !
Gmoney84 - 4/5/2013, 12:27 PM
He is playing a young Nick Fury in flashback scenes.
CherryBomb - 4/5/2013, 12:27 PM

He's totally Luke Cage.

CherryBomb - 4/5/2013, 12:29 PM
Amy Acker would be a pretty good Jessica Jones!

BadassBay - 4/5/2013, 12:33 PM
I'm thinking Deathlok or Bill Foster. Or maybe a villain....Tombstone?
OR Ryder from the Skrull Kill Crew but in the MCU they will be the Chitari Kill Crew. Some of them didn't drop dead at the end of the Avengers.
jerryblake - 4/5/2013, 12:34 PM
@IM53
get your shit together. it's not like she is the only girl around here.

wait ... or maybe ... not ?
jazzman - 4/5/2013, 12:34 PM
@CherryBomb

hes totally not
SHIELDtv - 4/5/2013, 12:46 PM
Shame TVLine took so long to credit SHIELDtv.net with this news (they just added it to their article). It was posted April 2.
jerryblake - 4/5/2013, 12:48 PM
@gusto lol
i think you just crack the case
TheManFromMars - 4/5/2013, 12:48 PM
He's playing Carol Danvers!
SaxoWolf - 4/5/2013, 12:50 PM
jerryblake - 4/5/2013, 12:58 PM
@TheManFromMars
we would not only get a black man who is playing white character from the comics, but also the first black man who is playing white woman character from the comics.
ComicFan523 - 4/5/2013, 12:59 PM
I was wondering when an Angel or Buffy alum would join Shield. He was really good as Gunn, looking forward to this series.
siggisuperman - 4/5/2013, 1:01 PM
I am guessing he plays young nick fury in flashbacks.
StrangerX - 4/5/2013, 1:07 PM
Hmmmm. All i know is this better be good. Or at least on par with Arrow, because theres no comparing it to TWD.
TheSisko - 4/5/2013, 1:08 PM
totally Bishop! I wonder, is Marvel allowed to have mutants in the SHIELDtv show. It would be a hilarious way to just not deal with FOX
superbatspiderman - 4/5/2013, 1:20 PM
I think he will be a young Nick Fury or Nick Fury's son.
Jhuntdaprodigy - 4/5/2013, 1:59 PM
Young Nick Fury in flashback, Nick Fury Jr, Scorpio (Fury's brother and the Zodiac could be one of the antagonist in the series), Luke Cage, or Black Panther. Those are the only 5 roles I know of that are "Top Secret" worthy, just another SHIELD agent isn't something that should be top secret. Any other villains he might be playing, I have no idea.
Inhuman - 4/5/2013, 2:12 PM
Too skinny to be Luke Cage and he defintely isn't Black Panther......... my best guess is Nick Fury Jr
kirynthemighty - 4/5/2013, 2:29 PM
Ok guys you realize that in the comics the Nick Fury Jr. is really supposed to be samuel l jackson at this point. The reason why they did it to make it cannon with the movie and ultimates. The original Nick Fury is a white guy. :D They did the whole Nick Fury Jr. thing to phase out the white Nick Fury. I am HOPING that he'll play Cloak, Luke (if he bulks up), Fury flashback (hoping against this), or ...got nothing else.

Still pretty damned pumped. Gunn is the freakin man! Good to see him back with Joss.
TerminalVoyd - 4/5/2013, 2:36 PM
Honestly, I'm guessing a younger Nick Fury. Given that it's a show about SHIELD, it would make sense for them to touch on the actual organization itself and bits and pieces of how it came about as well as the present day characters and situations.

The fun of that is we may get to see yet another period in Howard Stark's life and some more connecting tissue between the SSR and it's evolution into SHIELD (with room to sprinkle MCU versions of various characters around).
