JURASSIC PARK 4 May Be A "Big Reboot" According To Original Star Sam Neill

Sam Neill, who starred as Dr. Alan Grant in the first and third Jurassic Park films, briefly comments on the recently delayed fourth installment. He says that he'll unlikely return, partly because he thinks it will be more of a reboot.

A couple weeks ago, Universal postponed Jurassic Park 4 indefinitely. Originally slated for a June 13th, 2014 release, the latest draft for the fourth installment in the long-running dinosaur franchise was apparently "too epic and ambitious" to have out by that date. Filming was originally set to begin next month, but without a ready script and a locked cast, it would be impossible to have it out next summer without being rushed.

While we wait for the next official announcement, actor Sam Neill - best known for playing Doctor Alan Grant in 1993's Jurassic Park and 2001's Jurassic Park III - told Stuff.co.nz that he will unlikely reprise the role for Jurassic Park 4. He doesn't detail why, but hints at the reason in a brief comment. "I'm told it's a big reboot, a total re-jig." Producer Frank Marshall said last year that the film will not be a reboot, but a sequel (as expected). However, with Universal delaying the project indefinitely, could it be retooled as a reboot? No details on the film's characters have been confirmed, but Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3) and David Oyelowo (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) were reportedly in consideration for roles. Would you rather see another Jurassic Park sequel or a completely revamped take on the iconic franchise?

Jurassic Park 4 will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed), and is currently rewriting the script with Derrick Connelly. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) wrote the prior draft.

SpectacularJoShFest - 5/21/2013, 11:03 AM
I hate all these reboot stuff...fuucks sake the movie came out like 20 years ago and still holds up...[frick] this...is going to suck shaved asian monkey balls...like Robocop
JoeMomma29 - 5/21/2013, 11:04 AM
Just reboot the damn movie, make it gory like the book!

jasonicus - 5/21/2013, 11:05 AM
Yeah, let's just reboot another friggin classic. Great idea.
KeefNCookies - 5/21/2013, 11:07 AM
I'd prefer it to take the Transformers route. A legitimate sequel but no focus on any past elements. Make some new ones and maybe leave threads for future (JP5,6,etc.) references to the past trilogy.
I love Jurassic Park but I'd much rather have something new than nostalgic, sorry peeps.
JoeMomma29 - 5/21/2013, 11:09 AM
@ Batz

Speaking of doggy style this is what Gusto wants to see in the new movie!

brazilianbatman - 5/21/2013, 11:13 AM
I am not saying I want to see see Jurassic park reboot all I am saying is that you guys are complaining that we are getting a reboot to a classic but don't complain that they will reboot batman which is not just a classic movie, its a classic triology where all the 3 movies are show the signs that will become a classic, especially TDK.

I don't get the "don't reboot a classic" if many of u want to reboot the Batmans series unstead of just continue.

Again I am not saying I agree or don't agree with Batman andJurassic Park reboot I am just saying I don't get the point.
brazilianbatman - 5/21/2013, 11:15 AM
I think that transformers route is the best way I think, whatever that means because I haven't seen the movie yet and I don't trust Bay as a director but starting things over is exhausting.

StarkAnthony - 5/21/2013, 11:20 AM
Reboot is unnecessary, especially since the first one is an adaptation of the first book. would the new movie also adapt the book? They could try to be closer to the source I guess, but really what's the point? The first movie was different than the source but still nailed it.
TheClemster - 5/21/2013, 11:22 AM
Now you guys leave Gusto alone, he is just a misunderstood old fart who accepts his inner perv. A role model really for all members of this chat...

@ Gusto can you please release my family unharmed now I said what you told me to?
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/21/2013, 11:28 AM
Reboot? [frick] that!

Bring on Dinosaucers and Dinoriders!
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/21/2013, 11:29 AM
Rather see those.
beane2099 - 5/21/2013, 11:40 AM
Funny how Dinoriders has come up twice today. And now Dinosaucers. I didn't think anyone else remembered those.
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/21/2013, 11:42 AM
Or a [frick]ing Turok movie.
yingyangpalms - 5/21/2013, 11:56 AM
It would be hard to continue the original storyline without it being something like Love Boat or Fantasy Island. In other words it would be "stars" having adventures with Dinos.
PsyGuy - 5/21/2013, 12:01 PM
talk about beating a dead horse...
charlie2094 - 5/21/2013, 12:01 PM
Not sure how I feel about this film. Saying that, excited to see more from Colin Trevorrow. Watched Safety Not Guaranteed during all that Star Wars talk, and absolutely loved it, thought it very refreshing and different, so can't wait to see what he does next.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 5/21/2013, 12:06 PM
@cipher - LoL! Well, can you blame him for feeling spiteful? I hear it's "quite the place" for old folks like @Gusto....

;P
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 5/21/2013, 12:07 PM
@Gusto - Awww, you know me, Gussy. Just trying to make your life much easier. ;)
Ocelot - 5/21/2013, 12:20 PM
just do a [frick]ing turok or lost word movie, leave the jurassic park series alone, this series doesn't need another sequel and doesn't need to be remade
FoxForce5 - 5/21/2013, 12:23 PM
I have 4 words describing how to do this:

"Dinosaurs on a Spaceship"

End of story.
jimoakley666 - 5/21/2013, 12:23 PM
I think he means it'll be unconnected to the previous characters and be it's own thing set, as Marshal has said before, in the ruins of Isla Nublar.

Personally, I'd LOVE to see Sam Neill back as Alan Grant.

If I were writing it (which, thankfully I'm sure you'll agree I'm not) I'd have Grant brought in by the National Geographic to do a an island report with a team. I'd have the knowledgeable science team rescuing some fools who have wandered onto the island seemingly not knowing what the hell they're doing but are actually there to destroy the place because they see it as an abomination. Reverse the whole set up so it's actually the dinos who need saving from some nutters who get picked off, nature and science vs religious terrorists etc...

Brain fart over.
jf187 - 5/21/2013, 12:33 PM
You know what....this is one of the onyl franchise that I would like to see a Prequel. Knowing what happened when they tried to create the first dinosaur to become a Park.

There is a biology story that is untold here...
BlackHulk - 5/21/2013, 1:13 PM
It should be a reboot. Lets face it. The Lost World and Jurassic Park III were based on the main characters from the first movie being manipulated into going back to the island that almost claimed their life. There is no logical explanation for Grant or Malcolm to go back to area a 3rd time.
LittleDanglyThing - 5/21/2013, 1:31 PM
Dinosaurs are awesome as shit.
As long as I get dinosaurs on the big screen I don't care.
Even if they get raptors wrong again, I just don't care give me dinosaurs.
G - 5/21/2013, 1:45 PM
Enough is enough. We should introduce a bill to Congress, making it illegal to "re-boot" anything from now on. These movie studios and directors are getting away with murder. We're paying $10 per ticket for recycled ideas. The same shit, repackaged, over and over again. It's gotten out of hand. These people are getting paid millions for NOT coming up with new ideas.
yingyangpalms - 5/21/2013, 1:54 PM
@FoxForce5 Star Trek Voyager did a Dinos In Space story.
