Armie Hammer On JUSTICE LEAGUE, Marvel Studios & Whether He'd Be Up For BATMAN Again

Commenting on the tone of the canned Justice League: Mortal (calling it a mixture of The Dark Knight and Star Trek), Armie Hammer also shares his thoughts on Marvel Studios' approach to a cinematic universe when asked if he would consider playing Batman again.

The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer was set to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in Warner Bros.' Justice League: Mortal until the superhero ensemble was suddenly canned weeks before production. In the years since, we've heard the actor talk about the project and his regret about it not happening, and since then, he has emerged as one of the fan favorites to replace Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader. Appearing on The Feed (thanks to Bleeding Cool for the transcript), Hammer talks yet again about the movie, which would've filmed in Australia. While citing Prime Minster Kevin Rudd for being one of the production's downfalls (due to his changing the tax rebate incentive program), he praises Justice League: Mortal's tone. "It would have been the perfect combination, of the realistic grittiness of the Dark Knight series mixed with the amazing detail and sort of, tactile nature of the Star Trek series."

Last year, Hammer was rumored to be on Warner Bros.' radar to play Batman again in the Justice League iteration they were developing, but we haven't heard anything on that since. When asked if he would consider donning the cape and cowl again, he doesn't sound certain about it. He goes on to praise Marvel Studios' approach in building up to The Avengers, saying that its execution was better than what JL: Mortal's could've been. "I don’t know man, that was before Marvel had crushed it with everything. It doesn’t seem like it would have been executed as well as Marvel’s done theirs. What they did is they created a following for each of the individual characters and then put them together in a movie, so you had all the people who were Thor fans, all the people who were Hulk fans, all the people who were Iron Man fans, all came together to watch this one mega movie. That was a great idea."

Coincidentally, Hammer is set to co-star alongside Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel) in WB's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which will begin filming later this year. He also recently visited the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but denied that it was for a role in the sequel. Would you like to see Hammer in a DC or Marvel role? You can see him in theaters now as The Lone Ranger.
