Getting the Black Panther Movie Right

The actors can give life or bring death to a movie. That's why we need to get the Black Panther casting right.
The Black Panther is the greatest Afro-american hero ever and the more Superhero movies get popular, the more fans want him to have his own. I have therefore put time and effort into the choosing the best cast to give T'Challa the honor he deserves. So without further a due...


T'Chaka / Djimon Hounsou (yes everyone wants him as T'Challa but the guy is too old)

T'Challa / Black Panther / Derek Luke / Malcolm David Kelley

King's Mother / Alfre Woodard

King's sister / Shuri / Kerry Washington

Ororo Munroe / Lauren London (Again Halle Berry is too old)

And of course the villain...

Ulysses Klaw / Michael C. Hall

OMFG! HOT DAMN!!! What a rush. I thought it was real that they were going to make this movie. I got so excited.

Man.. much props to you!! This was FANTASTIC. I think you NAILED IT w/King's Mother / Alfre Woodard and King's sister / Shuri / Kerry Washington.

I know you say he is too old for T'Challa but I still like Djimon Hounsou for that part. Im not feeling Derek luke for it. Maybe I could see Djimon as T'Chaka if there was someone else in place of Derek for T'Challa? hmmm..

Storm... I had this picture of Aisha Tyler for her. IMO. Lauren London maybe for the younger version of Storm? But still very nicely done.

But man, I really enjoyed your thread. Niiice! Now I wish it was happening for real! (well, have been for awhile now anyway):)

hey fam, i agree that Djimon Hounsou is about 10 years too old for the part, Derek Luke is a perfect fit for that part, I really think he is on his way to a greatness in the acting world, he just needs 1 more great movie outside of antwone fisher.

Hate to break it to you guys but if Fox puts him on the next Fantastic Four film(if they even make one) then he will be property of Fox and they will be the ones who will make a Black Panther movie. If Marvel wants to do it they better do it fast.

i hate to be "that guy" but this just seems like... a BET made-for-tv-movie. But i mean that IS how the comic was. Maybe it'll be good if it ever gets made. but it won't have the mainstream audiences (*cough*whitefolks*cough*) rushing in to see it. They'll just think its another This Christmas.

Whats wrong with an older cast? I dont want to see Black Panther 90210. Like shibazz said, [frick] the whole rights of passage crap, its been done to death. Start the story maybe a flashback of Panther as a boy..then have the main narrative focus on him as a MAN, and not Walt from Lost! Honsou might be a bit old, but he could play younger and i still think would be the best man for the job

Djimon is the ONLY man for the role of T'Challa. Too old my ass, that dude is in as good or better shape than any 20 year old, not to mention he is a spectacular actor. I see Mr. Jojo Risin has finally decided to say something good about... well... something. ManOfIron, that's some pretty racist shit lol. I'll go see it and the Luke Cage movie if they're made (although I think the Cage movie would be ALOT better as a 'Heroes for Hire' flic)

If Fox makes the film then there might be a chance for Storm to be in it. If Marvel makes the film then there is no chance for her to appear in it unless Marvel wants to pay Fox extra cash to use Storm. And I agree with Rorschach, there is no reason why an older cast wouldnt work. As long as Bow Wow, Chris Brown, and Tyler Perry stay away from the film ill watch it.

Shit... Had I known there would be this much feedback I would have never went to bed. lol

-Yes this a Fan Cast
-The only reason I cast a kid T'Challa is for flashbacks.
-I need to see T'Challa in more than one movie. And we know how long it takes these guys to make one. That's my escuse for picking Derek over Djimon (he'll be like 60 by the time the next Black Panther appearance happens)

-The difference between this movie and a BET one will be the (nottoodarkbutdark) storyline I'm working on.

Nice job on the casting. I rather enjoy "fan casting" of comic movies when they take the time to find just the right people, not just the same popular actors being shoehorned into a role that they might suck playing.

Let us not forget that the right writer and director are also crucial for this project to succeed. We need these two people to be longtime fans of the character who will not impose their "vision" of the Black Panther onto the film and ruin it. The perfect cast means nothing if the story sucks. Find a Favreau type who really understands and loves the Panther, give him a good story and a good cast, and this movie should be a success.

Actually I'm Canadian 90CALIBRE and proud of that. I want to stay true to the roots as much as you do but let's face it the movie will be made for us. Mainly North Americans. So unless you want the whole movie in english subs we'll go with the cast I have here...

Very cool casting!!! I used to think SNIPES, but now id see him as BLADE all the time, i personally think every actor should only get one MARVEL role, it keeps it fresh! As long as this wasn't kid friendly it will be a Awesome movie in the making!!! Good casting @ BLACKREVEREND @ !!!

Good job on the casting pics, although I agree with most, Honsou is the man for the role! He may be older, but let's be realistic, he still is the only one who could pull off the air of authority, and he seems pretty active. Just promis us to keep the full face mask!!!!!!!!

I still like Gabrielle Union for Storm. A bit out there, but I think she could pull it off, at least as good as Halle did.

As for Hounsou, If they made the movie, like today he'd be great, but he is getting up there in the years. I've always thought he'd be perfect for it though.

Alfre Woodard, by damn, is absolutley genius! Excellent actress and way too underutilized.

Hey! I want storm in it! I think she was important to him too. She helps him when they are young and he was in trouble. It shows their bond they shared from early on... I want my STORM in it!

Iman is so beautiful... but much too old... love her... but I think BR was spot on when he choose Alfre Woodardfor the mom.. and the sister too Keeri Washington.

I think it would niiice on the Big Screen. Look at Hancock... I think maybe Will Smith name helped a bit...but I believe it would still have been successful regardless.

Neo: The last I heard, the BET panel at ComiCon had the trailer to show back in July, but no announcement had been made on when they were going to start airing episodes... I also searched extensively online, but I couldn't find any notification as to when they were going to air. :-(

I will say this.... i think the movie would draw a pretty nice black audience to the theaters, just because they heard about this Black superhero. Will Smith doesn't count, because he's Will Smith... and he's on a level that draws EVERYBODY! I hate to say it, but its true! I think it would draw pretty well, if and only IF they cast it right, and didn't tinker with the story too much.... even with the black audience in play, the fanboys will fuel this one, and if its not done right....

version4: I have to say I agree with you. I don't think that Hollywood needs to compromize the character of the Black Panther by making him "white friendly". Will Smith is the perfect example of what's WRONG with our conceptions about race, and what Hollywood believes is profitable. I think that a strong, dominant, physically intimidating, intelligent, and well spoken black male figure is EXACTLY what we need for the leading role of T'Challa! Not a goofy, non-threatening, big eared, comic relief "character" like Will Smith! Why do people always assume that Will Smith is so likeable?! Every time I see him in a leading role, or an action role to be more specific, I can't stop thinking of "Fresh Prince", and his whole history in comedic rap. HE'S COMIC RELIEF!!!

Yea Hounson is a little older but nothing "just for men" or a clean shave cant solve LOL. Hounson's a great actor ,he's in excellent shape, and he's been training in martial arts now for over 10years. Besides Wesley I really dont think there's anyone better suited and Hounson unlike Wesley is pure African just what the part needs. There's enough accomplished african american actors to pull either one of these movie's(black panter and luke cage) off as long as its cast right and well written. DarkAvenger I do agree with you Panther isnt really a high rated character and I'd rather see a Hal Jordan or John Steward green lantern movie it just has more depth. Who is Jonah Hex and who really CARES? With that being said would I like to see a Black Panther movie? Oh yea How about luke CAGE? Another oh yea, Im just more of a DC fan than Marvel thats all.

LOL!! BLADE4040, you are hilarious! You're a DC fan using the name of a (as DarkAvengers calls it) "D list hero" which did very well (until Blade 3) at the box office! So, excuse me if some of us have a hard time agreeing with you and DarkAvengers in your opinions about a Black Panther movie. How many people knew anything about Blade prior to the first film? Not a helluva lot I bet. That didn't stop it from doing well now did it? If done right with the right people in place, a Black Panther movie can do just as well if not better than Blade. Oh yeah, I'm more of a MARVEL fan than DC but I still enjoyed the hell out of Dark Knight.

Go with the older version and use Micheal J white shaved head new uniform and on the edge real kick butt type of heroe. Wesley Snipes screwed this all up by playing Blade first! He was supposed to star in this film almost 15 years ago, and for some reason it never happened! I still think he should play the part, but now he's got legal troubles....

If Michael Jai White isn't Luke Cage then don't bother making the movie!

AS for T'Challa, I always wanted the amazing Lawrence Fishburne to play that role, that man is awesome!, One of my favorite actors.

Im more of a DC fan but I do follow and like Marvel.You made a good point because honestly like you said I didnt really follow blade until the movies. I also said that I'd like to see a panther movie but if I had a choice I'd go with a lantern movie instead. Panther maybe a cut above D-list but he certainly isnt an A-lister like Superman,batman,hulk,spiderman,or Thor. When you get right down to it Marvel is kicking DC's BUTT on the big screen and its cool with me. Growning up I really liked the capes on most DC heroes and that was also a reason I liked THOR the flowing red cape like Superman. I dont think he rated Blade only Panther but sadly Blade isnt an A-LISTER either more like a C-lister when talking comicbooks. If we rate the movie Blade is atleast a b-lister with my all-time fav SUPERMAN pulling up on the D-list... all his movies have been TRASH.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on a BLACK LIGHTING MOVIE. You know who should play lighting,storyline,villians,and so on. You two usually have some pretty indepth post on most characters so I'd like to hear where you'd go with this character.

Well Blade, I hate origin movies so I thought about showing him as an already established superhero protecting Suicide Slums from a villianous group, maybe the 100. I thought it may be cool to have him as the leader/mentor of a group of young and upcoming heroes, The Outsiders.

I always liked him because he doesn't really take crap from anyone, he is his own man. and the cool thing is even without his powers he could beat the crap out of people.

For actors, I always wanted Will Smith, before his carreer got big, but now I doubt he would do this character because it is not a "Mainstream Character"
Terrence Howard has expressed interest in the character, so he could be likely.

My personal choice for Jefferson Peirce would have to be Jamie Foxx. I know a lot of people will give me hell for that pick but let me explain. I chose him for several reasons. He is a very talented and diverse actor, he has done a wide variety of movies (Ray Collateral, Miami vice, Dreamgirls, Jarhead) he can do an amazing job in action movies look at Miami Vice. He also has the star power to bring an audience to a movie about a lesser known character.

Yah DC kinda stole Lightning from Marvel. lol. Lightnings creator Tony Isabella, i think it was, was developing the character for Marvel originally before moving it to DC.

Jamie Foxx interesting he's a solid actor with a somewhat heroic type build with a well written script it could work. I was thinking the Outsiders also with Katana,Grace,and Red Arrow along with Lighting as their leader. All of those characters powers translate easily to the big screen. If they do go with Howard HE'LL NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT HAIR Im just not sure if this part is him. With War Machine its albout the TECH but with lighting the man needs to be somewhat athletic like he can actually kick some butt if he had too.

Katana and Grace would be cool, not sure about Arrow, maybe Geo-Force or even Halo, but RA woul be better saved for the Teen Titans

I was kinda bummed that Foxx and Downey's new movie bombed, I thought it was pretty good.

The main reason it did bad was because of that crap about foxx saying Miley Cyrus should go ahead and make her sex tape, everyone was thinking it, HE just had the balls to say it, and now he is being persecuted cause of it. He is a comedian, they say things like that all the time, I mean no one beat up Leno, Will Ferrel or Tina Fey for all of the crap they gave Obama and Palin. But i suppose since Cyrus is only 16 it was in poor taste, but still it has been blown out of proportion.

ok so almost perfect if u could have a different storm i mean dont get me wrong i think lauren london is fine as hell and would be ok but she isnt tall enough storm is 5'11" not 5'5" ok its a noticeable difference other than that i would think its just about perfect and luke could be perfect as far as the american educated son of T'Chaka

BLADE4040- I'm afraid i know too little of the character's personnality to pic someone for the role. however, for some reason, HAWK's pic feels right to me. I'm not particularly a fan of Jamie Foxx but he is a very good actor and is more than able to do the character justice and put it on the map so to speak.

Jamie Foxx is solid as a actor, i don't know if he could fit a comic book movie, that is a hard sale. Thou he can sing, act, & is pretty funny. What I mean by a hard sale is like picking Beyounce for Wonder Woman. She is fine as well, but no way would I promote her for WW. Wrong actress all the way. NO LOGIC IN THAT & THAT IAM ADAMITT.

omg i haven't watch Casino Royale in a while! OMG if he were in BP i would more than likely jizz in my pants! that would be so bad ass! that guy moves like a cat! PERFECT! lol but idk how his acting chops are. but BP isn't that much of a 1st string Avenger character so if they did include him at some point he wouldn't have to have the authority/command that whoever they pick for Cap would. But yes Sebastien would be [frick]ing AWESOME! but he'd have to move like that for the whole movie lol

Though my firth thought was Chiwetel Ejiofor, I now agree with Ramus. Sebastien Foucan should be in first place.

He did all of those stunts,... and I understand most were in "Real" time. If nothing else, give him the shot of directing some of the stunts! And ManOfIron has a good point, and he is the only actor that could move like that throughout the movie.

As far as female characters, a place in this movie should be found for Gina Torres to kick some butt, some how. I think should would be great at 6.0 tall and her role in Firefly.

Firstly, I think it is opvious to say that Wesley Snipes cannot do this movie, he has already played Blade, and it is confusing for audiences to see the same actor play two different parts in the Marvel Universe. The obvious choice as far as I am concerned is my favourite actor, Mario Van Peebles. The M.V.P. has the looks, the talent and the comic book body to play this role perfectly. You may remember that Mario directed a film called "Panther" about the Black Panther organization in the U.S.A. A triligy of films starring Mr Van Peebles as the Black Panther would put Mario on the A LIst for sure. Posse was the best western ever made, because Mario shot it like a hip-hop video, and it starred rappers playing cowboys. They should shoot this film in Botswanaland, I saw a documentary recently that was about the diamond trade there, and that Botswanaland now has many restaurants and shopping malls that cater to the Africans there as well as a growing middle class of blacks beacuse they are now getting the money from diamond mining. The doco said that the lifestyle of Botswanaland is the most modern of all the african countries. As for a villain to fight the Black Panther, maybe call him the White Lion (a symbol of British Colonialism) or something, instead of White Wolf, but he should be white, everyone knows the whites that colonised South Africa and other African nations had the racist system of Apartaid. If Wesley Snipes has the rights to Black Panther he should sell them to his good friend Mario Van Peebles. Mario even looks like T'Challa and I am sure he could do a convincing African accent easily. Until this movie I see, I'm down with the M.V.P.
