Disney's John Carter of Mars, a live-action adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 11-volume book series about a Civil War veteran (John Carter) who is mysteriously transported to Mars, was originally scheduled to begin shooting in November, but the date has now been pushed back to an early 2010 start. However, according to actress Lynn Collins, who will play the Martian princess Dejah Thoris, pre-production has begun.

"We're actually getting into some hair and makeup tests this week to sort of see what the look is going to be like. So, it's really collaborative and really creative and I'm really excited about it."

Collins will star alongside her X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star, Taylor Kitsch, will play the title role and gushed about the prospect of working with him on John Carter of Mars.

"Taylor is so amazing. We went to Pixar and saw some of the workups of some of the fighting that we have to do. I was like, 'Oh my god, there's just no guy better for the job. He's so athletic and wonderful and such a great actor and so positive."

John Carter of Mars is currently slated for a 2012 release date.

Disney has several labels. If they are making the film under the actual Disney label you can forget anything actually resembling the story as written by ERB. The best we can hope for its a re-write with a few cutsey singing animal. And forget the pics above. With the target age of 10-14 the most skin you'll be seeing is her forehead.

I've been hoping for 20+ years they would finally make some of the great sword & raygun series of the early years into live action. But a John Carter of Mars movie with no combat and a G rating is a real let down. Why couldn't they go with their non-kiddie label like Touchstone or Miramax? What a waste.

Beef her up a little bit and she would make an impressive Wonder Woman.

@DDD totally agree man...all those women you listed knock my sock off comparitively - and Collin's seems to have a sweetness about her that many incredibly beautiful women lack, imo. God, I gotta say, after seeing Fox on SNL lastnight, alright I give in - she sucks as an actress. Cannot do comedy for shizza, and the rest of the time she was either "the girl from transformers" persona or was just playing a hot chick with little to no dialogue. Was pretty dissapointing.

@Betty You know that's not a bad idea - she has an exotic enough look that she stands out among many of the other possible candidates.

DDD - 9/27/2009, 10:16 PM
Yeah, Betty@, 48and2@, I forgot about Lynn as WW! She would make a wonderful Wonder Woman! Just enough sweetness and toughness in one package to bring the persona of WW to life!
bropous - 9/28/2009, 6:54 AM
No, Teabag, this could be the next "Galaxina"!

I agree that this beautiful lady would make an excellent Wonder Woman.

As always, I'd like to dorect your attention to the Gutenberg Project, where you can read the John Carter of Mars series FREE:

http://www.gutenberg.net.au/plusfifty-a-m.html#letterB

Look under Edgar Rice Burroughs. Also there are his Tarzan stories and his Pellucidar stories. You can also find Robert E Howard's stories there if you want to bone up on "Solomon Kane" before the movie gets released in the US...
GUNSMITH - 9/28/2009, 8:37 AM
MAN THERE ISNT AN OUNCE OF FAT ON HER.
Christuffer - 9/28/2009, 2:33 PM
darn she is sexy! :D
cant wait to see her in the movie dressed like that!
Spence46 - 9/30/2009, 8:01 PM
@bropous

You're right about the books and novels being great. But I really can't understand how anyone is excited that the stories will be gutted and kiddyfied.

This is not being made by Disney's Miramax or Touchstone label. It is being made by Disney Pictures supported by Pixar. That means 'G' rates script and wardrobe. And the swordplay will not even resemble the novel, instead we will get a Princess Bride if we are lucky.

The Mars series all 11 volumes (10 if you believe the last was written by someone else) is about John Carter the Warlord of Mars, greatest swordsman on two worlds. He doesn't just kill a few enemies, he stacks them like cordwood. And the major battles should have at least the scope and blood/gore level of Braveheart, not the duel in Princess Bride or Mulan.

I've been waiting for over 30 years for these to hit the screen. Can they do it in 2010? Heck yea. There are a dozen studios that could. But Disney's Movies engine for 'G' rate rugrat movies is not the one that will.

If the Kiddie train makes it, ERB's stories will be crushed for another 20 years, just like Heinlein's Starship Troopers was destroyed. It was a movies that completely ignored the book it claimed to be about.

@fartman

Fat chance. It will be a kiddie flick and everyone will be wearing school marm costumes.
