Gavin Hood, director of X-Men Origins: Wolverine confessed to being nervous about letting Ryan Reynolds perform some of his own sword stunts in portraying the "Merc with a Mouth," Deadpool:

"His early efforts were somewhat suspect, so we were quite worried, because those swords were twirling and I thought he was going to cut his arms off. In a matter of weeks in was spinning those swords like a pro.

"He’s very talented and very pleasant which makes him a very appealing package."

Reynolds was pitch-perfect in Wolverine as Wade. There really isn't anyone better to play Deadpool.
BmanHall - 9/28/2009, 1:20 PM
I think Ryan Reynolds should be Deadpool. =P
JoshWilding - 9/28/2009, 1:20 PM
Ah well, good for him doing his own stunts!

Im still not convinced that Fox wont [frick] his solo movie up though! :(
jallanr - 9/28/2009, 1:20 PM
u gotta luv reynolds!:) but why is this top news?

woo hoo!
Phinehas - 9/28/2009, 1:23 PM
Gavin Hood must be a tard-fish! Almost everyone's fancast for Deadpool was Reynolds. How then was he "suspect" at first?
BmanHall - 9/28/2009, 1:25 PM
What happen to the Ghost Rider 2 article?
DrDon - 9/28/2009, 1:27 PM
@Phinehas: Your argument is totally illogical. Just because fans think an actor should play a certain character doesn't mean that actor has the right stuff to make the character come to life.
supermarioworldE - 9/28/2009, 1:30 PM
The only hope i have that fox might not mess this up, is that it's the same company that gave me the original star wars trilogy and the simpsons. that's it.
ThunderCougarFalconBird - 9/28/2009, 1:32 PM
This fills me with confidence on his GL role. To go from "suspect" to "pro" in a week takes dedication! OK, so we should take that with a pinch of salt but he still clearly has passion and drive for comic heroes, I can't see him letting us down with Hal.

Phinehas - I think he meant Ryans sword skills were "suspect" not his character portrayal.
InTylerWeTrust - 9/28/2009, 1:35 PM
I think Ryan will be a great Hal Jordan. He's a huge fan of comic books, he's a great actor, and he's got Martin Campbell directing him. Sounds awesome to me!

And I also think Hood was only talking about the sword stunts, not Ryan's performance.

@Weiner123: If you post old news with no source link it's going to get deleted, it's as simple as that.
bsprecher - 9/28/2009, 1:39 PM
@Minotauro: It's not about favoritism, it's about Weiner123 posting news that has alredy been covered in 2 other articles and not including a source link.

@everybody: READ the article...he's talking about Ryan using swords as Deadpool!
BmanHall - 9/28/2009, 1:41 PM
@ Minotauro: *GASP* Favoritism!? Dun dun duuhh...

I refuse to believe it!
bsprecher - 9/28/2009, 1:47 PM
@Mulit: Yeah, right?
DrDon - 9/28/2009, 1:47 PM
@Weiner: Oh, yeah, that was some "fresh" news you had there, idiot! Other CBM articles that already covered it:

MultiPurposePoni, Hey bro, if you go back and reread Deadpool's origin's again, I'm sure you'll notice the similarities in it and the movie. True, it is a victim of poor adaptation, but not as bad as most people immediately perceive. Deadpool wasn't treated none to fairly, but that was nothing compared to how much they warped Silverfox. Only thing they didn't change about her was the name.

Phin, I think he's referring to the whole aspect of Reynolds being a funny man and pretty boy and wondering if he could handle the physical aspect of the role, which clearly turned out to be an unfounded worry, as Reynolds whipping and whirling those swords was quite skillful and badass. I remember wondering the same thing initially, if Reynolds could pull of the physical phenom of Wade's gun and sword play. It was great to see I worried for nothing.
Bamf7 - 9/28/2009, 1:47 PM
I really don't think it's favortism...I really don't know anybody here and a lot of times when I contribute my stuff it makes it to the front page. But I took the time to contact someone and find out EXACTLY what they want. None of us work here, it's all voluntary. It's not a big deal to find out how to do something correctly if you want to do it. You can't do it on your own terms and expect someone to accept it. Good grief.
Phinehas - 9/28/2009, 1:49 PM
Dr. Donald Draper:
Perhaps you oughta get a refund on your doctorate because my statement wasn't illogical. It was unsound. Secondly, my premise that fans can detect a suitable actor is also reasonable. GEE...I wonder why one wouldn't trust producers in casting...hmmm.

Love the pick, Mr. Prize.
bsprecher - 9/28/2009, 1:49 PM
@Bamf: I couldn't have said it better myself, thank you!
DrDon - 9/28/2009, 1:52 PM
@Phinehas: It's illogical because most fans put very little logical reasoning into their picks. Jensen Ackles as Cap? Diesel as Namor? Give me a friggin break!

Phinehas - 9/28/2009, 1:55 PM
"Asked who he thought would be credited as the breakout performance in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," director Gavin Hood put his money on Ryan Reynolds."

I thought Reynolds was already "out". Is it based on his pay or popularity? Either way, he's had his own starring roles.

Get a refund, Draper...
dtakos11 - 9/28/2009, 1:57 PM
i think hood shouldnt make another comicbook movie...bc he dropped the ball on wolverine...deadpools origin was murdered
kk45658 - 9/28/2009, 1:58 PM
i cant wait till the deadpool spin off rember they was just starting to to make dead pool and striker made them start up dead pool before the whole process was finish so it is slowly reversing its self as you notice his mouth grew back to normal so in the snip off he will be try to do things his way
DrDon - 9/28/2009, 1:59 PM
@Phinehas: Scholarship.
Bamf7 - 9/28/2009, 1:59 PM
Haha...you said "snip off" instead of "spin off"

@ Sirprize: Haha...dude you've got to be one of the funniest people on here. Not even joking.

@SirPrize: Rapscallion!
Shaman - 9/28/2009, 2:00 PM
Draper- Give me a good argument as to why Jensen Ackles isn't fit for the role of Cap. I just never heard one before. And you saying that you don't like Supernatural isn't valid. Any other suggestions?
BmanHall - 9/28/2009, 2:03 PM
@ Kevin Tabor: Hahaha, I just got a glimps of Supermike when I read your post.
Phinehas - 9/28/2009, 2:05 PM
They probably hand out scholarships for doctorates in other countries. Or was it an online degree?
freakybatman - 9/28/2009, 2:05 PM
free sword training ? why wouldnt he want it
Minotauro - 9/28/2009, 2:06 PM
Man I'm such a douche ain't I??? LOL.... I know it's not favoritism, Weiner just needs to get that everybody else feels the same way about there articles...
Talontd - 9/28/2009, 2:08 PM
DAMN RIGHT SHAMAN...

I'd really like to hear that explanation as well DRAPER!

Sooooo.......back it up...
DrDon - 9/28/2009, 2:09 PM
@Shaman/Talontd: If you have to ask, you'll never understand.
BmanHall - 9/28/2009, 2:09 PM
@ Shaman: The only reason I couldn't see Jensen Ackles playing Captain America is because he seems so young. Just too small and boyish. I'm sure he could act the part just fine. It's the look that holds me back. I could definitely see him playing Steve Rogers before the Super-Soldier serum, though. Other than that, no dice.
InTylerWeTrust - 9/28/2009, 2:10 PM
Shaman and Talontd: I'd like to hear those arguments as well...

Draper: What you said sort of hints that you have no arguments to back up your opinions...
Minotauro - 9/28/2009, 2:11 PM
I think I better behave now.. The "members committee" might make Irrational statements about me! he,he,he...
MovieTheaterLad - 9/28/2009, 2:11 PM
I'm sorry Brent Spencer, but I just couldn't read the article. I was way too distracted by the fact that "Reynolds" and "very appealing package" were in the same sentence.

But anywho, I have total confidence that this'll be a great movie. I mean, how can FOX mess up an action comedy about a wise-cracking ninja? That definitely sounds like it would be up their alley.

Also, I'd like to have a Miley Cyrus to play Squirrel Girl and have a cameo in either this or in Iron Man 3.

You gotta admit, it's a pretty perfect fit. And if you can't, well then you're just plain NUTS!

Phinehas - 9/28/2009, 2:12 PM
I bet he's a kid, or just feigns intelligence. Either way, from the start, he hasn't shown that he knows how to argue.
DrDon - 9/28/2009, 2:17 PM
Why Jensen Ackles Could Never Be Captain America:

1) Physical stature is not comparative to Cap's comic book depictions.
2) A TV actor has little chance of starring in a $100+ million franchise film, i.e., he's not famous enough to share the stage with RDJ, Sam Jackson and Ed Norton.

And, personally, I think he looks like a pussy and would never follow him into battle.
Minotauro - 9/28/2009, 2:18 PM
@SirPrize - Wow...That's [frick]ed up! But, funny. Lol!
