Scarlett Johansson "Geeked" About Iron Man 2

The 25-year-old actress said starring as the Black Widow in the sequel to Iron Man was "a total dream come true."
Actress Scarlett Johansson is a busy woman. Between filming Woody Allen movies and playing concerts with Pete Yorn, Johansson is also an active supporter of such charities as Oxfam, (RED), and USA Harvest. The medical magazine WebMD interviewed Johansson for the November/December issue and, between questions about her charity work, managed to slip in a few questions about Iron Man 2.

Johansson told WebMD that landing the role of the Black Widow in director Jon Favreau's follow-up to Iron Man was "a total dream come true." She continued:

"I was such a fan of the first movie. It's just super action packed, and I'm so geeked about about it. Jon Favreau, the director, is also super geeked out about it, so we're in it together."

Johansson said that the film role offered her new challenges as an actress:

"It was a whole new world for me, but I built a lot of strength, that's for sure. Working on the wires and being suspended in the air, you throw one wrong kick or punch and, yeah, you're out of whack. But once you're working with the stunt crew and they're going through the craziest stuff, you feel bad about complaining that your knee has been blue for three months. The guys doing the stunts in those Iron Man suits, they can't move in it and can't take it off. I'd say, 'Have you peed today?' and they're like, 'No, we can't move, we can't take it off, we can't drink water.'"

Johansson confirmed that she will be appearing in The Avengers and said that she hopes her success will help shine some light on the causes she has championed.

"If you already have the spotlight shining on you, it's great to direct that towards a cause you believe in and that you can stand behind. It's nice to be a voice for people who don't have a voice."

Iron Man 2 opens May 7th (April 30th in the UK and AU)!

She is amazing looking.
drizzle123 - 11/30/2009, 4:17 PM
I know there are some CBM fans who feel she was a wrong choice for the part of Black Widow, but she's really psyched for Iron Man 2 and The Avengers and even wants to do a solo Black Widow movie! Good luck getting that kind of enthusiasm and dedication from other actresses! (Except for maybe Milla, who is going loco for Resident Evil)!
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:21 PM
Yumm-o! I like the red hair :)
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 4:24 PM
If I wasn't busy dodging Norman Osborn's goon squad I would of played myself in the movie. But since I'm busty I approve of Scarlet playing me! XD
NataliaRomanov - 11/30/2009, 4:25 PM
BRENT @ I wasn't one of 'em, shes perfect for BLACK WIDOW!!! ; D

MILA would've been a god second, but cant think of any actress better for the role than SCARLETT!

LEEE777 - 11/30/2009, 4:26 PM
NAT @ : D

LEEE777 - 11/30/2009, 4:26 PM
@LEEE: Yeah, I know it wasn't you. I just remember posting one of the first pics of her in costume and some dude said she looked like a pig and another guy said she looked like a boy. WTF?!? Clean your glasses, bro!

I know I've mentioned this before (and, yeah, I guess I'm bragging a little), but after meeting Scarlett at SDCC I'm totally sold on her in the role! She "gets" what fans want. Come on, she's married to a guy who's going to be TWO superheroes; how could she not be?

@Multi: Oh, yeah!

@Natalia: Heh. You're too "busty" to play the part?
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:29 PM
busy not busty (but that too)
NataliaRomanov - 11/30/2009, 4:29 PM
Natalia..don't you mean busy?..I mean, Im sure your busty too;)

I wasn't over joyed when she got the role because I thought there were better choices out there, but, she looks good and seems to be taking it very seriously, I would like to see some actual footage of her acting though...
RorMachine - 11/30/2009, 4:30 PM
@Nat: Still modeling?
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:30 PM
Its great that she's so enthusiastic about the role...I really do hope we get to hear a Russian accent at some point though..! :P

I didnt actually realise she was as young as 25 though!

Roll on April 30th here in the UK!!! :)
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 4:31 PM
@Brent/Ror: Oops! Call Freud!

@Brnet: Hrm...not so much anymore. I'm not in my teens anymore and that seems to be all they're looking for in print... :'''(
NataliaRomanov - 11/30/2009, 4:32 PM
@Josh: I don't know how much Russian accent she's going to lay down. Someone asked her about that during the roundtable interviews and she said that she wouldn't be a very good spy if she couldn't hide her accent. It could be a cop-out, but it also makes total sense.

Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:34 PM
milla jovavich or however its spelled shoulda been cast, RDJ is old after all
dellamorte1872 - 11/30/2009, 4:34 PM
@Ror: I felt the same way. Originally I thought they should have cast a native Russian actress, I like ScarJo for the role alot. Besides, most Russian actresses can't hide their accent worth a damn.

I'll take an actress that gives a damn about fans any day over one who just wants a paycheck.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 4:35 PM
milla jovavich or however its spelled shoulda been cast, RDJ is old after all
dellamorte1872 - 11/30/2009, 4:35 PM
Brent: You're right, but I have to admit I'm hoping that when she turns good or whatever that she drops the American accent revealing her "true" Russian one, lol! :P
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 4:38 PM
Here's what Scarlett said about not having a Russian accent:

"No, I think that would be a little bit of a dead giveaway, I don't know how covert you would be [if you had a Russian accent] but I would have [had one] if I had to."

I buy it! Let's move on...
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:41 PM
@MultiPurposePoni: My mom has a thick Russian accent that she can NOT hide to save her life so I know what you mean by that.
NataliaRomanov - 11/30/2009, 4:43 PM
Brent: Sigh...that sound pretty definitive that she wont have the accent whilst she is or isnt undercover! Ah well, its not the end of the world!
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 4:44 PM
@Josh: Only in Iron Man 2. Maybe in The Avengers or in a solo movie, when she's no longer a spy?

Here's what Scarlett said about a solo movie back in August:

"[The Black Widow] has many different incarnations and different storylines so I'm hoping she will be able to continue in that way. I'm hoping that if the fans like the character and support the character, we'll see her again."
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:44 PM
@Natalia: I dated a Ukrainian girl years ago and she had the same problem even though she'd lived in the US for about 10 years LOL

As a matter of fact, I can't name one actress who's from that neck of the woods that can pull off an American accent.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 4:46 PM
id be geeked to be ryan reynolds lucky bstard lol
but i agree im thinking they got the right black widow and her taking a paycut or a low wage for the role kinda proves she's pumped for it, carnt wait for im2.
ukboy28 - 11/30/2009, 4:46 PM
@MultiPurposePoni: Yea since I'm 2ndGen I can slip in and out of it if I want to (actually it's more of a mimic of a Russian accent).

BTW, what does your name mean?
NataliaRomanov - 11/30/2009, 4:48 PM
does anyone know if that was true about her taking a paycut or low wage for the role or has a lack of sleep got me confused lol
ukboy28 - 11/30/2009, 4:48 PM
@Josh: Did you just change your avatar? I could have sworn you had a different Peter Parker, like, seconds ago!
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:49 PM
@ukboy28: I haven't heard that before, but it's possible. Many actors who appear in "genre" films like Iron Man 2 take a percentage of profits and lower pay instead of their regular pay. That pretty much started when Jack Nicholson passed on his pay (all of it) for a percentage of Batman and ended up making $40 million for the role!
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:50 PM
MAN I CAN"T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!!

SHE IS PERFECT FOR THE ROLE AND KNOW DOUBT SHE WILL DO
A GREAT JOB!!

MAN, MAY 7TH IS A LONG WAY AWAY BUT
I'M SO PSYCHED !!

GREAT ARTICLE BRENT!
peterparker420 - 11/30/2009, 4:51 PM
awwww.....its not RDJ in every shot? :'(
Fartman - 11/30/2009, 4:51 PM
brent@ i read about it a while ago, carnt remmember what site tho, but either way thats cool mate, hard to belive at one stage emily blunt was going to be the widow.
ukboy28 - 11/30/2009, 4:53 PM
Thanks, PeterParker420! I had to do something while waiting in the doctor's office and just happened to pick up the magazine that the interview was in.
Brent Sprecher - 11/30/2009, 4:53 PM
Brent: Well, that gives me a little hope lol! The accent isnt all that much of a BIG deal for me as such (not like the emo scenes in Spider-Man 3 were, lol)) but it would be nice to hear it somewhere, somehow! Whether its a flashback or hopefully like you said, in the movies where she's no longer undercover like The Avengers!

After months of using a Steve McNiven drawn Peter Parker avatar I've been looking for a new one by John Romita Jr! I changed it like 6 times yesterday and a few times again an hour or so ago so I think my browser keeps changing it back by accident when I refresh my browser, lol!
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 4:55 PM
josh@ i feel you on the emo scenes, what a heartbreaker lol
ukboy28 - 11/30/2009, 4:58 PM
@Natalia: 'Multi Purpose' is a nickname for Military Police (MP) members of the US Army. When we get deployed to a forward area (combat zone) we usually get tasked out to do every ungodly job out there :)

BTW, I do the same thing with my 2ND-GEN Italian accent LOL It comes in handy every once in a while.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 5:01 PM
Kewl! Thanks! I always wonderd. Are you still "active" (is that the word)? Sounds scary.
NataliaRomanov - 11/30/2009, 5:06 PM
Yes ma'am. I changed careers from law enforcement to journalism a few weeks ago, but I was just notified that I've been assigned to be a drill instructor (training new recruits) :/

Either way, I'll be retired in 12 years so that's what I'm looking forward to :)
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 5:09 PM
I couldnt be any more off topic I know but does anyone here know whether 'Six Feet Under' is worth watching? :P
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 5:24 PM
@josh: I tried watching in a couple of times, but it's a real downer. The show is depressing as hell. Not really my cup of tea.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 5:27 PM
MULTI: Thanks for the info! I'm a big fan of Michael C. Hall in 'Dexter' and just read that he was in 'Six Feet Under' (which I had heard of but never thought of watching) so I checked out a few clips/trailers on YouTube and couldnt really get much of an idea about the show from them - it doesnt exactly sound like a barrel of laughs when you put it like that, lol! I'll check out a few episodes online first I think! Cheers mate. :)
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 5:31 PM
@josh: Time for me to go off topic LOL Let me ask you: did you find anything wrong with that rumor I posted on the Hawkeye article the other day? I thought after you read my explanation there wasn't any confusion. What do you think?
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 5:33 PM
I WAS ACTUALLY WANTING MILLA JOVAVICH FOR BLACK WIDOW, BUT I THINK FAV KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING..BESIDES, SCARLETT IS PURE EYECANDY
GUNSMITH - 11/30/2009, 5:34 PM
Bubbleheaded wench
skullboy - 11/30/2009, 5:39 PM
Brent I like the articles you have been bringing to CBM. They excite me for what is to come. Keep up the great work.
LaffaTaffa - 11/30/2009, 5:40 PM
MULTI: Not at all, why? (especialy not after your comment with the explanation in) Like I said on that article, without meaning any offence towards you or whoever your source is, I'll take something like the Cap and Hawkeye rumours with a pinch of salt until I know some solid, confirmed info like I do with any rumour!

Hell, taking that YouTube vid of Jensen Ackles denying having any involvement in Captain America with a pinch of salt is the only thing that keeps me from crying myself to sleep every night! (j/k - I'm not that sad, lol!)
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 5:53 PM
25yr old??? I didnt know she was so young...shes the same age as me!
RomeyRome2002 - 11/30/2009, 6:36 PM
Poni, dude your gonna be a drill instructor? Pleeeease promise me you will behave exactly like R Lee Ermy in Full Metal Jacket..and film it!:)

I liked Six Feet under but it certainly isn't a barrel of laughs..there is humor there but the subject matter is a downer. Brilliant acting though.
RorMachine - 11/30/2009, 7:10 PM
She is an ok actress. Personally though I think she is just "geeked" as she says because of the franchise opportunities. She just wants to get as much of our cash as she can. Emily Blunt was the better choice.
akthunder - 11/30/2009, 7:31 PM
I loved Six Feet Nder. I thought it was pretty funny most of the time. Some of the genius twin sister/brother stuff was a little much but besides that I thought it was a good show.

I'm pretty sure Scarlet 'll get her spin-off. She's got a huge demographic. Every girl knows who Scarjo is and every guy is gonna go see Iron Man 2. So all the guys and girls are going to want to see her again. Maybe Avengers?
Betty - 11/30/2009, 7:44 PM
Black Widow Deadpool and Hal Jordan all in the same houshold spooky.
StrangemannX09 - 11/30/2009, 7:45 PM
SHE FITS PERFECTLY FOR THE HOLE
brazilianbatman - 11/30/2009, 7:45 PM
@Ror: Haha That's the voice I've used for years whenever I'm drunk :)
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 7:52 PM
WOW!
I'm really surprised to see that nobody has posted a pic of some actress who they think SHOULD have landed this role. Way to go everybody. I love Scarlett for this part BTW.
gibbyblaylock - 11/30/2009, 8:46 PM
and why the hell there are no pictures of boobies?!?!!?
there should be, will someboday post a photos of scarlett with her wonder twins!
where's teabag when you need him?
sadmamba - 11/30/2009, 9:10 PM
@multi: I think the Multipurpose thing goes to all soldiers. I was a 19k and got sent to Iraq as an infantry scout.

@Brent: I saw this article at my kid's check-up. She's a great actress and right perty too! And you'd think Tony Stark would put in a pee hole! :)
Upupandaway - 12/1/2009, 1:09 AM
@Brent: Seriously?? Some people on here felt she wasn't the right choice?? How could they!!!??? She is by-far the only actress qualified for Black Widow!
TheCritic17 - 12/1/2009, 4:35 AM
ROR & Betty: Thanks guys! I watched a bit of the first episode online last night and bought the first season on DVD afterwards! It looks a little morbid sure but it seems like its a great show! :)

sadmamba: Im not sure where tea i actually but I know he's not a big Scarjo fan - allow me to help! :P

@josh24 thanx man! :D
sadmamba - 12/1/2009, 4:53 AM
I've only seen ScarJo in a few movies, but she's been pretty damn good in all of them, so I'm looking forward to seeing her as Black Widow! No russian accent? I can deal with that. It's much better than Emo-Parker & Baraka-pool!
Runefyst - 12/1/2009, 12:30 PM
I'm sure she'll do a good job cause i have complete faith in Favreau. But i don't find her attractive in the least and i felt that Famke Janssen would have been a better Natalia. She proved it in Golden Eye as well as in the X-Films. And she would have made the love triangle between her, Pepper and Tony a bit more appropriate, being in the same age range and all. I've never been into dirty old man porn, myself. Love me some milfs and gmilfs though ;P
Shaman - 12/1/2009, 2:04 PM
gibblyblaylock, ask and you shall receive...

Milla Jovovich Pictures, Images and Photos
SHE LOOKS LIKE BLACK WIDOW FOR CRIPES SAKE!!!!!

Hillary Swank Pictures, Images and Photos
Their first choice since the first IM in which I woulda been ok with.
Alyson Hannigan Pictures, Images and Photos
Alyson Hannigan woulda been decent too. A shame.

skullboy - 12/1/2009, 2:12 PM
There is only ONE Black Widow.....

I give you Olga Kurylenko:

She can act, she's got the natural accent, and she's very athletic.....i like ScarJo and all, but nothing in her past performances shows me she's ready for this role. Plus, no accent? Blah....

Talontd - 12/1/2009, 4:54 PM
Alyson Hannigan!!!! Are you stoned???
Talontd - 12/1/2009, 5:05 PM
NOPE!

Olga woulda been good too. Anybody but ScarJo.
skullboy - 12/1/2009, 5:21 PM
Hannigan would probably be the most miscast actress you could possibly put in that role..ever.
RorMachine - 12/1/2009, 5:35 PM
Too late, except it's not Alyson.
skullboy - 12/1/2009, 5:41 PM
"Iron Man 2 opens May 7th (April 30th in the UK and AU)!" is that for real? they get it a week before north america?
lvlheaded - 12/1/2009, 5:59 PM
Damn. I knew it was too good to be true.
gibbyblaylock - 12/1/2009, 8:23 PM

I like Olga K and her cute accent but I don't think shes strong enough for the part.

Scar Jo does have a stronger build.
CockKnocker - 12/1/2009, 10:14 PM
she is so hot.
1chris2 - 12/2/2009, 1:13 PM
mila would be my first choice
