More 30 Days of Night Sequel News

Vampires run amok...again!
It was only reported yesterday that a sequel to the 2007 Josh Hartnett vampire movie 30 Days of Night will begin shooting in Vancouver, Canada, in October, with at least one cast member change. Now, it's been reported that the sequel has a title--30 Days of Night: Dark Days--and that the man at the helm will be Ben Ketai, directing from a script that he wrote with the creator of the IDW Publishing comic book series, Steve Niles.

The first movie was adapted from the 3-issue 30 Days of Night comic book series and told the story of a small Alaskan town caught in the bloody clutches of a nest of vampires who are able to feed around the clock thanks to the lack of sunlight for 30 days. While the movie sequel bears the name of the original comic book sequel, Dark Days, it has not been revealed how closely the movie will follow that series' plot. However, Bloody Disgusting hsa reported that the character of Stella Oleson--played by Melissa George in the first movie, but being recast in the sequel--will be featured prominently in 30 Days of Night: Dark Days as she quests for revenge against Lilith, the vampire responsible for claiming her husband Eben (Josh Hartnett).

Ketai is no stranger to the 30 Days lore, having written the 30 Days of Night: Blood Trails and 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust, but this will mark his debut as a director of a big-budget feature film.

I love these vampires! They're everything a vampire is supposed to be!

My favorite line form the First movie...Please, God, save me....vampire: "No Go-o-od!!!"
DDD - 9/4/2009, 12:49 AM
dude i "aquired" the first one via the internet but when i watched i forgot to add the subtitles so the whole movie i just assumed we weren't supposed to understand the vamps. i'm still a bit confused about what actually happened in that little alaskan village...
HeyVanity - 9/4/2009, 2:35 AM
First one really wasn't all that. Good, but not sequel worthy.

One of my favorite vampire flicks of all time is "Near Dark".

THE NEW DIRECTOR WROTE FOR THE 30 DAYS BOOK....IT MAY BE GOOD
GUNSMITH - 9/4/2009, 4:21 AM
The first movie worked because the victims were cornered in a small town, cut off from hope. That kind of claustrophobic panic will not translate to a revenge story. Without that element the proposed new film is just another toothless vampire flick.

Why do I look at that pic and think "why so serious!" lol
dancingmonkey08 - 9/4/2009, 5:37 AM
Why is it set in Alaska and not Norway? In the north of norway(thank god i live in the south) they have 6 months of night, not just one, the Vampires could hang out there half a year with no sun....

Hey DDD I agree. I love the look of these vampires. To me they look like sharks. Like true predators. I can't wait for another. The only thing that I didn't like about the movie was the passage of time. It just didn't seem like 30 days, more like a couple.

@ luffy

first of all i hate you, but at least you didn't put any bleach vids here. second, its all about money?? you do know that there are about 8 graphic novels for this series, right?? its not like they are making this movie out of the blue, and making an all new story. there is actually material there. a 300 sequel is all about the money. there is no sequel to the 300 graphic novel, THAT is being made for the money.
CorndogBurglar - 9/4/2009, 6:37 AM
and everyone saying that a sequel wouldn't work, i take it you haven't read any of the graphic novels, because they work fine.
CorndogBurglar - 9/4/2009, 6:38 AM
If they make the second more like the original stories, from the series it will be good!

Recast though, damn i liked her.

A sequel would so work!

I just like the fact that these vampires are bad guys, and not just Emo-pires (Emo + Vampires) like the ones that Ann Rice is responsible for inspireing like Toilet and Tru Shit. I haven't read the origional books, but I liked the movie and think that with the help of one of the crators that it will work out well.

I'm just hoping that now that vampires are in style that the Necroscope series can get made. They do have some graphic novels out.

and

If you guys want to know more about the series you can look it up here:

or
http://www.brianlumley.com/books/necroscope/

What its about is this guy that can talk to the dead starts to hunt down vampires to oblitherate them from our world. Since he gets to talk to the dead he learns all of these cool things from them like how to fight like a marine while still in school as a young kid and later on even teleport around the world.

Seriously, though, Emo-pires suck, and NOT in a good way, either. Long live the EVIL vampire!
necrosage2005 - 9/4/2009, 7:42 AM
I read Necroscope the graphic novel. It started well but by the end it just went bat shit crazy and not in a good way. The writing was also very weak. Im sure the novels are better though.

I also hate Emo-Pires. But in True Blood they really are not like that. Some of them do have consciences alright, but are still killers at heart. And some are just outright animals too.
Rorschach01 - 9/4/2009, 8:23 AM
Guys!!!! Part 3 of my Spider-Man story is now in FanFic!!!!!
TheCritic17 - 9/4/2009, 8:27 AM
Rorschach01, I wouldn't know about True Blood since I don't have HBO, so I'll just take your word for it. I refuse to steal them from somewhere online and know that I can get the season, but I've heard from someone who's tastes are similar to mine that the show blows and that makes me want to watch it even less.

The GN's were actually written by 2 different companies, as you can see in the pics, and I'm not really sure if they were both ever finished or not. I never really got a chance to track them down and buy them all. The books are great, though, and in my opinion deserve to be made into movies for the anti- Emo-pire fans. If you want to get rid of yours I'll take them off of your hands. ;)
necrosage2005 - 9/4/2009, 8:36 AM
@ necrosage

yeah man, ror's right, true blood is good times. everyone assumes its like twilight, but it couldn't be further from that. there's really only one vampire in true blood that is considered a "good guy". other than that, they're all vamps, and they all pretty much think that humans are below them. its not what you think.
CorndogBurglar - 9/4/2009, 8:44 AM
Just to make something clear... I would like to ask if it bother's anyone else if I put up posts like these: Guys!!!! Part 3 of my Spider-Man story is now in FanFic!!!!!

Please let me know... :)
TheCritic17 - 9/4/2009, 8:53 AM
LOBO could whipe the floor with the meanest vampires out there. And Jeffrey Dean Morgan would perfectly fill the boots!

Shaman - 9/4/2009, 10:20 AM
hey any vampire flick that is not twilight will get my money

'nuff said
Boogie138 - 9/4/2009, 10:54 AM
Wasn't a huge fan of the 1st, but it was good. But didn't Josh Hartnett's character inject himself with vampire blood.? So How is this Lilith character responsible 4 his death? At the end he's with his wife waiting 4 the sun to come up, then he burns up. ?? Did I miss something??
Bee76 - 9/4/2009, 11:36 AM
I'm tired of vampires already.
Dr. Donald Draper - 9/4/2009, 1:18 PM
Lobo kills Twilight... come on, you know you'd love to see it :P
Shaman - 9/4/2009, 1:42 PM
@ Bee

she isn't responsible for his death in the comics. the leader of the vamps, barlow, in the movie was her lover. so, in a way she's connected with the whole barrow incident, and if the vamps didn't go there, then he never would have died. so indirectly, she's kind of responsible.
but in the comics, the vamp leader didn't want them to attack barrow. he was pissed when he found out vamps were attacking the town, so he showed up to put a stop to it, and he killed the guy that organized the whole thing. in the movie they just made the leader vamp the organizer.

CorndogBurglar - 9/4/2009, 2:02 PM
UNFORTUNATELY I DIDNT READ THE GRAPHIC NOVEL BUT THE MOVIE WAS 1 OF THE BEST VAMPIRE MOVIES ID EVER SEEN NEXT TO NEAR DARK, THE STORY LINE WAS BRILLIANT AND IT IS SEQUAL WORTHY. MARLOWES DEATH IN THE END AND THEM DISSAPEARING LEFT OPEN A SEQUAL. NNOW... THIS LILITH WAS IN THE BOOKS BUT NOT MENTIONED IN THE FILM AND IM BETTIN THEY CHANGED THE ENDING
