X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Sequel Originally Intended To Be Called 'Age Of Apocalypse'

X-Men Days of Future Past editor and composer John Ottman revealed in a recent interview that the announced sequel 'X-Men: Apocalypse' was due to be sub titled 'Age of Apocalypse' after the comic book of the same name. However, another 'Age of..' Marvel Studios film prevented this.

Attatched to the end of X-Men Days of Future Past is an end credits teaser scene which begins the story of the announced sequel titles X-Men: Apocalypse. In a reccent interview, editor and composer of X-Men: Days of Future Past, John Ottman, revelaed that the film was due to be titled X-Men: Age Of Apocalypse, here's what he had to say:

Do you know what specific Apocalypse story they might be using as inspiration? There are so many good ones to choose from. Most are assuming it will be "Age of Apocalypse." That would leave you with your hands full, given the alternate timeline stuff to play with.

I know they wanted to call the film "Age of Apocalypse," but they couldn't because there's some other film coming out around the same time called "Age of" something and they didn't want to make it sound like the exact same title. They decided that would be lame so they just called it "Apocalypse."

Yeah, I guess there's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Transformers: Age of Extinction".

I know that there's like this giant, hard-bound book that I saw them going through in my editing room a few months ago. So I think they're taking all that to heart. But as to which one it is or which combination of stories it is, I have no idea.

With the Avengers and Transformers sequels both using an 'Age of...' subtitle it makes sense that X-men do not follow the trend, it is also interesting to note that the 'Age Of Apocalypse' is still being considered as inspiration for the sequel after it was discussed months ago.

Are you happy with the title or would you have preffered 'Age of Apocalypse'? Sound off below!

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original "X-Men" film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from "X-Men: First Class," in an epic battle that must change the past -- to save our future.

I'm cool with X-Men: Apocalypse.
SuperCat - 5/23/2014, 5:50 AM
Yeah, guess that would have been too many "Age of.." titles for one year.
SuperCat - 5/23/2014, 5:52 AM
Thanks God they didn't go with "Rise" or "Dawn."

Age of Apocalypse, Age of Extinction, Age of Ultron... potato, potatoe.... all is the same... they need to get more creative.

SuperCat - 5/23/2014, 5:54 AM
"The Coming of Apocalypse." LOL.
beto - 5/23/2014, 5:54 AM
Really hyped about this movie though, ratings and reviews are amazing. I have my tickets for today and I am thinking that this will be the best CBM of the year. Haven't seen Winter Soldier but even so it just doesn't stand a chance for me against DOFP.

charlie2094 - 5/23/2014, 5:56 AM
Yeah, kind of glad they decided not to use it, can only have so many "Age of" titles...

Interesting to know they're using Age of Apocalypse for inspiration
DAGuess - 5/23/2014, 5:57 AM
Teenage Mutant Age of Apocalypse? Can't forget the teenage mutant part or there will be riots.

The Age of the Rising of Apocalypse's Come... Returns Reloaded.
Klone - 5/23/2014, 5:57 AM
How accurate is Day of Future's Past opening prologue in the future to the actual story?
Klone - 5/23/2014, 5:59 AM
The Dawn of the Age of Apocalypse's Rising Come
AstonishingArachnid - 5/23/2014, 6:01 AM
I don't mind age of Apocalypse and Age of Ultron ad they are actual titles of comic book events. Age of Extinction however just sounds corny.
DAGuess - 5/23/2014, 6:04 AM
Clearly Transformers needs to change its title to The Land Before Time or Land of the Lost or something else original.
DarthOptimus - 5/23/2014, 6:05 AM
Glad they changed the name, maybe it will put an end to this madness before it starts, it could have gotten out of hand.

2014 Age Of Extinction
2015 Age Of Ultron
2016 Age Of Apocalypse
2017 Age Of Doomsday
2018 Age Of Sith
2019 Age Of Carnage
2020 Age Of Age Of

. . .

@Klone

Comic:
In the future, Sentinels rule a dystopian United States, and mutants are hunted and placed in internment camps. Having conquered North America, the Sentinels are turning their attention to mutants and other superhumans worldwide. On the eve of a feared nuclear holocaust, the few remaining X-Men send Kitty Pryde's mind backward through time, to possess the body of her younger self and to prevent a pivotal event in mutant–human history: the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly by Mystique's newly reassembled Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Movie (minor spoilers):
In the future, Sentinels rule a dystopian Earth, and mutants are hunted and placed in internment camps. On the eve of a extinction, the few remaining X-Men send Wolverine's mind backward through time, to possess the body of his younger self and to prevent a pivotal event in mutant–human history: the assassination of Bolivar Trask by Mystique.

Spot the difference.

Just Bring It!!!

I loved days of future past
Klone - 5/23/2014, 6:11 AM
@Maniac

I knew those differences, what I means is, aside from sending back Wolverine's mind, how closely does the future prologue match with the comic, e.g. does it start out with Pryde encountering the Rouges, Wolverine, then back to the camp, etc.
beto - 5/23/2014, 6:12 AM
Age of Gusto

BatManiac - 5/23/2014, 6:28 AM
It's not a straight up adaption Klone, if that's what you're expecting.
dellamorte1872 - 5/23/2014, 6:39 AM
They should at least make an interesting combination, like Trek tried to do; XMEN FACE APOCOLYPSE haha
BatManiac - 5/23/2014, 6:41 AM
How do you feel dellamorte? Your boycott was a colossal failure!

LeroyJenkins - 5/23/2014, 6:41 AM
I mean what else are they supposed to call it? apocalypse now?
dellamorte1872 - 5/23/2014, 6:42 AM
No I still plan on boycotting it my points been made
YoungThanos - 5/23/2014, 6:45 AM
Yeah, you kinda knew FOX wanted to make it "Age of" but with all the crap they were getting from stealing QS they just didn't wanna go there I guess.

I think but studios are kinds trolling each other at this point...Which makes me very happy but then when I see that F4 is still a green light, it makes me really sad.....
PANTHER93 - 5/23/2014, 6:48 AM
Age of [frick] her right in da pussy
BatManiac - 5/23/2014, 6:49 AM
Yeah, good luck with that dellamorte, haha! Meanwhile, X-Men: Days of Future Past is...

PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - 5/23/2014, 6:58 AM
I still think they should have extended the title. X-Men: Apocalypse sounds generic as hell if you don't know it refers to the titular villain. As it stands, it looks like a shitty Resident Evil sequel.

Why not call it Era of Apocalypse, or as somebody jokingly suggested above, The Coming of Apocalypse (snicker all you want)?

Or better yet: Horsemen of the Apocalypse?
AlexanderLykins - 5/23/2014, 6:58 AM
I think they could have gotten away with it. Both titles are pretty darn cool.
Brainiac13 - 5/23/2014, 6:59 AM

@BatManiac

LOL!
Brainiac13 - 5/23/2014, 7:02 AM
Take the kids to Lego Land or watch DOFP.......Ummmm That's a Tough one. :(
ALegendaryPanda - 5/23/2014, 7:03 AM
X-Men: Apocalypse sounds good to me.

Oh and DOFP was INCREDIBLE!! I need to see it again though because I was tired as [frick] and my theater was hot as hell!
TheMexicanSuperman - 5/23/2014, 7:03 AM
X-MEN Reign of Apocalypse?
TheMexicanSuperman - 5/23/2014, 7:05 AM
@YoungThanos, quit cock sucking Marvel Studios' dick.
