John Williams Is Open To Scoring More STAR WARS Films

With the upcoming Episode VII expected to be released in 2015, legendary composer John Williams has expressed interest in returning to score the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel.

Williams had recently stated: "We’re about to play Star Wars [audience interrupts with cheers] and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…[more cheers]."

With that said, Williams probably doesn't know that JJ Abrams is set to helm the next film. It would be interesting to see this happen, only time will tell. Leave your thoughts in the usual place down below.

I really hope he returns, without his music I'm not sure I'd like the new trilogy as much as the other films. They make the films perfect to me.

Interesting! JJ probably goes with M. Giacchino, (who is VERY influenced by Williams' work). But they'll probably use the main Williams themes. Similar to John Ottman's work for Superman Returns.

Well if he is unable to fully compose and conduct the scores for the next three, maybe he and Giacchino can collaborate.

Yeah!!!!

I'm very happy about this. Perfectly fine with Michael Giacchino too, but John Williams belongs with Star Wars (and Superman, and Jaws, and Indiana Jones, and E.T., etc.). It would't fully be Star Wars without him. :)

John Williams was the only consistently excellent thing throughout the Star Wars saga. Even if the movie was mostly crap *COUGH*Phantom Menace*COUGH*, you can always count on John Williams to deliver an amazing score.

Yes! Can't imagine Star Wars without him! Saying that, I'll miss the 20th Century Fox fanfare at the beginning as that also means Star Wars to me, regardless of the film :P

Damn shame they didn't use him for MAN OF STEEL nor SUPERMAN RETURNS, damn shame if they don't use him for remaining STAR WARS

@ACira easy to agree with that.... his music was even able to drown out all the garbage of the prequels, and in the original trilogy .... WOW, i mean imagine hearing that as a kid... pure awesome

STAR WARS owes a large portion of it's success to it's soundtrack. Having John Williams is a no-brainer and a willful fail if not. Everything looks good so far, don't [frick] this part of it up.

John Williams did a phenomenal job with the music for the original trilogy. I hope they bring him back.

I love so many of John William's scores, especially all the pieces he wrote for the original Star Wars trilogy. But the only memorable for me from the entire prequel trilogy was Duel of the Fates. I'm concerned that he no longer can write that kind of music (just as both Lucas and Spielberg seem to have lost it for SW and Indiana Jones), and I'd like someone else try their hand at scoring the next ones.

Star Wars wouldn't be the same without him. Superman can live without him cuz its Superman. But Star Wars was born after Lucas added the soundtrack to the film. Without the music, Star Wars wouldn't have been nearly as powerful as it was.

Uhm, they better go with Williams. If Williams is available and they go with anyone else, the film will fall under the "they must not want me to see it" umbrella.

Couldn't agree more . Williams is indeed a god amongst men in composing but the next gen should be allowed to take a crack at it . Giacchino is more than capable .

And when it comes to MOS I am really looking forward to what Hanz does with it.

But if Williams does indeed do it I have no problem with that what so ever .

See people who don't want to see the original cast in their own sequel and wanting someone other than John Williams to score STAR WARS. SMDH Actual fans are in short supply this day and age.

At any rate, the main themes have already been created, including new pieces from the prequels. There's more than enough John Williams in place to continue scoring STAR WARS forever. So, it wouldn't matter if he was on board or not. It's not like he'd be recreating the main themes. Theor done already- like the LOTR music you hear in the HOBBIT. The music is part of the series. You don't re-score STAR WARS.

But if he comes back to score new additive piece... EPICNESS. The most I'll accept with another composer is filler music around the original themes which would leave a composer very little to do. So basically, it's unnecessary.

Hire John Williams to create new additive themes, or use the existing and extensive STAR WARS catalog he's already created to score the films.

I would be super happy to have him score the new trilogy, but J.J. and Giacchino are a package deal. Especially with the Pixar writer attached, Giacchino will deliver the right tone. John Williams should return for a standalone spin-off. I say: Yoda. His theme for Yoda is my favorite.

Pleased with Zimmer's on Man of Steel, can't wait to hear it.

Star Wars = Same continuity
Man of Steel = Reboot, new continuity, new everything.

Glad Williams is off the project.

I would love to have Williams return. His work on the original trilogy was obviously incredible, but his work on the prequel trilogy was also very, very good.

I remember playing MEDAL OF HONOR: ALLIED ASSAULT and remarking how the music sounded like something John Williams would write. Years later I learned the game was scored by Michael Giacchino of JJ's ALIAS, who would go on to do JJ's LOST and then become an Oscar winning film composer. Now, he's pretty much a shoo-in for STAR WARS (at least as a collaborator with Williams), and in a weird way it feels like I've been there as a fan for his entire journey.

Can't wait for a whole new trilogy of STAR WARS music.

I hope Williams is back on Stars Wars. He started from the very beginning, so it's only makes sense that he continues with his great music pieces.
