After all the recent casting news, a new source of excitement has appeared! Rumor has it that David Tennant (former Doctor Who) has joined
"The Hobbit" as Sindarin Elf King Thranduil (non-official concept art above).

"Thranduil also happens to be Legolas' father, which sheds some light on how Orlando Bloom's character will be reintroduced to the franchise. Tennant also recently confirmed himself for a new take on Much Ado About Nothing, so it is not clear how he plans to fit both films into his upcoming schedule."
"The Hobbit: Part 1" is currently slated to hit theaters 19th December 2012!
