DEBUNKED: Bradley Cooper Will Not Be Playing Lex Luthor In Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL

This was a pretty wild rumor that I'm surprised is still making the rounds but it appears that it's simply not true, Cooper will not be Lex Luthor.

And there you have it. I'm definitely inclined to believe the words of an industry veteran like Kurt Orzeck over the site where this rumor originated. While Cooper definitely has his fans out there, I personally think he isn't right for the role. Who would you guys like to see portray Lex Luthor on the big screen? If Luthor does not cameo in the first Superman reboot and the film is a success, it's a strong likelihood that Luthor will show up in a sequel. Hopefully we get the manipulative, evil mastermind from the comics and not the camp, real estate tycoon we've previously seen in prior Superman films.




Man of Steel is an upcoming superhero film under the development of Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series. Using Chicago and Vancouver as a backdrop, with production to be based in west suburban Plano, the film entered principal photography in August 2011, for a planned theatrical release on June 14, 2013 by Warner Bros., which also includes IMAX venues.

Thank God. Keep the Luthor cameo though please, that's exactly the way how it should be. Get Ethan Hawke for the role.

Zane, Hamm, Fiennes are all typical fan casting, The casting of Luthor needs to be inspired.

Bradley Cooper's name get attached to so many films before they're acctually casted, it's crazy. I think he's over rated as an actor.

Bradley is a serious talent but not Lex. He would be a great Barry Allen but that's by the by.

I'm with the majority... anybody who's bald, or has been bald in an acting part should be up for the part

i would prefer if they go with a lionel luthor played by jon voight and introduce lex in mos 2 after lionel has been killed by zod making lex hold superman responsible .. and as far as lex goes i think he should be someone in the same age range as cavill ...and i know this would go against the grain but i dont think they need to go with a bald lex .. just one with a short businessman hair cut .. like bradley coopers hair cut in the end of limitless ... i fear if they go with the bald lex then they may feel the need to do the silly hair wigs like in previous superman films...

Veerrryyyy interesting... My take on that? Lex has been cast and Bradley Cooper was either beaten for the role or not even on the shortlist.

Josh Brolin if they're going with a more realistic smart and just ruthless business man similar to the character he played in Wall Street 2. Wouldnt have to be bald tho.

Cooper is not a bad actor but i don't think he's right for Lex at all. My no.1 choice would have to be Jaoquin Phoenix, the guy is a powerhouse actor and can do psychopath like nobody else. His casting would go along with the rest of the film as he's Oscar nominated.

Plus he nearly killed Jor-El in Gladiator.

Well, will you look at that: some good news regarding MoS. Well, can't really complain about the cast. Been spot on (even if I prefer someone who looked more like 80 years od Perry you can't go wrong with Mr. Fishburne).

It's the direction they're taking that worries me. And that ugly ass suit.

I know he'd never do it and they'd probably never even consider him, but I'd like to personally see Denzel take on that role and bring a little of the "necessary evil" he brought to training day. I know he's a bit older for the role, but I think he'd give a quality performance.

The rumor may be debunked for Cooper playing lex luthor but I heard he was cameoing as none other than Barry Allen aka the flash, which would make sense seeing as though his name was mentioned in the casting rumors for the flash movie at one stage

well..i kinda like the idea. i'm sure if snyder ever DID think of cooper to potentially be luthor t'was cuz his performance in LIMITLESS. he's a big brain in that one, too.

but, oh well... if only TELLY "KOJAK" SAVALAS is alive and in his prime RIGHT NOW...he's a definite shoe-in for Luthor.

now, as for Ralph Fiennes (he's just played a MAJOR villain in the harry potter series) and Jason Isaacs (he too plays villains much too often), so having any of em play luthor won't be such a fresh thing to see like we did with Heath Ledger's Joker. now THAT was fresh and totally UNexpected. If cooper was cast, it'd be much like Ledger's joker casting. we'd be REALLY curious to see this leading man-type playing an iconic baddie.

with this debunked, i wanna see someone unexpected and yet very capable of playing Luthor and give us an entirely different, if not better, take on one of the biggest super villains out there.

ps: now, unexpected..i don't mean RYAN REYNOLDS, a'ight.

Why Lex Luthor in the first place? This character is the most overused, boring villain in comicdom. The character's only interesting in a few portrayals on TV or on the Big Screen... It's sad. Now perhaps the character can get a revamp with MAN OF STEEL, but it better be better than good.

DC Comics should really work hard to create new villains for the character that might eventually be translated to tv/film since they've initiated their 52-universe.... Or bring on some of the great villains that always seem to be sidetracked by Luther.. ~Sean

@SpitFire Nobody is asking for Luthor to play a major part. Consensus seems to be to have Luthor making a cameo, so he can be established as a genius business mogul. Not the comedic real estate scammer he was in Donner's universe.

Don't see anything wrong with a Luthor cameo. If this isn't a one and done movie, you GOTTA have Luthor at some point.
