Paul Bettany Says Working On THE AVENGERS Is The Best Job He's Ever Had

The wide-ranging thespian loves his role as J.A.R.V.I.S. just don't ask him to reveal any details on The Avengers because..er...he doesn't know any.

While discussing his new film Margin Call, Bettany of course fielded the inevitable Avengers questions. Only problem is, he doesn't know anything...

QUESTION: How’s The Avengers going?
Bettany: I have no input with that other than spending half an hour sitting in a studio doing the voice-over. It’s the best job I’ve ever had. I say the lines and they pay me money. I forgot I was in Iron Man. Someone said: ‘I loved you in Iron Man’. I said: ‘You’ve got me mixed up with someone else.’ I forgot I did the voice because it was only 30min in a recording studio laughing my arse off. I’ve got no idea what’s happening with The Avengers. They work out what bits need explaining with a voice-over and then give it to me.

QUESTION: Were you into superheroes as a child?
Bettany: No. It was Dan Dare and The Eagle, which felt Victorian. It wasn’t my thing. I liked the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films. I was dyslexic so wasn’t reading as a child and fell through every educational crack there is to fall through. Books happened later for me. I was your average bullied kid sitting in his room plotting revenge.

Wonder if JARVIS might eventually turn into Vision? Then Bettany could actually play a role in the movie.

@TheDukeOfNY...OMG! That's a great idea!!! Dude, you need to get in touch with Marvel with that idea. I'm serious as hell. That's awesome. Pym builds Ultron (w/ a little help from Stark), Ultron has access to some Stark software and creates Vision based on JARVIS tech. That's a great idea!

TheDukeOfNY - Pym could use the vocals Stark had on Jarvis, that would explain the voice. Would be sweeeeet.

Best job. Yeah, speak some lines and the fans heap on praise. He forgot he was in Iron Man. lol, Paul Bettany rules.

J.A.R.V.I.S. eventually evolving into Vision, now that'd be a smart move. And I think Bettany could pull that off easily. The guy needs a good movie to show his skills, he's been playing too long among mediocre movies.

In recent Avengers Tony Stark "resurrected" the Vision. So yes, there's now a connection between Iron Man and the Vision.

Bettany as Vision, please make it so.

J.A.R.V.I.S. becoming the Vision would actually really work well, and bettany would actually rock the part.

vtopa - 1/10/2012, 11:55 AM
@TheDukeOfNY: Bettany as Vision would be AWESOME. JARVIS to Vision clever thinking on your part.

I like this actor.
KNIGHT3000 - 1/10/2012, 1:36 PM
Just like when Val Kilmer voiced the KNIGHT 3000 in my show. He did it last minute in like a week after they figured Will Arnett's voice couldn't be used because he had done commercials for GM, and the new KNIGHT RIDER was FORD.
Bettany even looks like Vision.
Ace101 - 1/10/2012, 1:40 PM
lol. i see them actually going ahead with the Ultron and Vision plan since you see the android human torch in Captain America:TFA at the stark expo
marvel72 - 1/10/2012, 1:52 PM

Bettany as Vision is a FANTASTIC idea. And I think if they offered it to him, he'd come running.
luckylu - 1/10/2012, 3:50 PM

CoughCough - 1/10/2012, 6:56 PM

DarrkEvil - 1/10/2012, 8:43 PM

Paul Bettany even looks alot like Vision !!
EarOne - 1/10/2012, 11:54 PM
i had a job like that a cupla times...it IS cool.

and before i read that part about him playing Vision, i was thinking this guy could make a cool new Silver Surfer...he's white (sooooo white), tall and lanky (in an other worldly kinda way) and he's got that cool comic book-y voice. but, yeah...Vision would be cool too.
