Joss Whedon On The Power Levels Of The Various AVENGERS

Getting punched by Captain America is very different from getting punched by Thor or Hulk. Joss Whedon paid close attention to the details while filming The Avengers.

Director Joss Whedon on The Avengers:

WHEDON: "I had to find a way to service all the characters, to figure out why they're in the room in the first place. My biggest concern was that if I didn't pay enough attention to minutiae then the film would become generic in its concepts and visuals. Or that I'd be so concentrated on those things, I'd look around and the film wouldn't be about anything."

On the action scenes and what Whedon terms "the hierarchy of power":

WHEDON: "If this guy hits someone, he falls down. If this guy hits someone, he flies backwards. Its very complicated.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man in May 2008, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August 2011 and New York City in September 2011. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

The Avengers is scheduled for release on May 4, 2012 in the United States in 2D and 3D.

StrangerX - 3/27/2012, 9:35 AM
So far I like how they are displaying the Hulks power level. He seems stronger than in TIH.
xfan320 - 3/27/2012, 9:37 AM
@Lilvic- agreed, these little interviews are so frustrating. They need to be compiled or something.

I do think Joss will deliver the goods tho! I believe he's gonna bring real life to these crazy characters! So pumped! He knows how to to handle 'larger than life' situations and humanizing them. Woo!

"I had to find a way to SERVICE all the avengers"
So that's how he got them all on board. Gross.
NeoBaggins - 3/27/2012, 9:50 AM
""I had to find a way to service all the characters"

As if he doesn't own any Gangbang vids to study.
ColonoscopyKid - 3/27/2012, 9:54 AM

MisterNiceGuy - 3/27/2012, 9:54 AM

@ sharkknight - "A Justice League movie will be Anyday better than this" What Justice League movie? How can anything be 'Anyday better"?

"Marvel stole our..." You work for DC? If so, quit bitching about what other people are doing and make the damn movie already, hopefully before we are forced to watch a midget Bane and mediocre Cat Woman in a rather boring looking third part to Nolan's trilogy.
Spidey91 - 3/27/2012, 9:57 AM
what did he say about their power levels?!

Spidey91 - 3/27/2012, 9:57 AM

SotNatt - 3/27/2012, 10:16 AM
The agony of these two-bit ints.
Nemeres - 3/27/2012, 10:17 AM
I'm by no means a hardcore Avengers fan and I'm looking forward to other stuff much more eagerly, but it boggles my mind to see how some people still doubt this movie. It smells, it REEKS of awesomeness. It doesn't get any better than Joss Whedon, dudes. This movie will be the cat's pajamas.
Fogs - 3/27/2012, 10:17 AM
@ironman53 - the movie or gusto's bunz?
Fogs - 3/27/2012, 10:18 AM
@ironman53 - oh but this sharkknight deserves. He's the lead butthurt nolan drone now.
6of13 - 3/27/2012, 10:30 AM
Really? Joss stole the idea?

WB has had rights to ALL DC properties for longer than Marvel Studios has existed. All I can say is: You snooze, you lose.
ScRipt69 - 3/27/2012, 10:31 AM
Pheeeew! Im glad as the director of the movie hes worked out that cap and hulk have different strength levels, well done josh. Hope he knows cap cant fly.....

LordHuck - 3/27/2012, 10:36 AM
We don’t really need another one dimensional troll persona running around here.

We already have a nice collection of dregs.

You should go find another place to go perform your “act” Shark.
Lilvic92 - 3/27/2012, 10:37 AM
LordHuck

You report me for stating a clear fact about these short interview..

brazilianbatman - you clearly didn't see the avengers storybook and don't know what happens next on the IM / Thor clash, right?
ralfinader - 3/27/2012, 11:08 AM
Wow, just when it seems like SharkKnight is the dumbest piece of crap to pull his lips away from Nolan's puckered hole long enough to troll Avengers articles, brazilianbatman puts in his two cents.

I will say this, brazilbats, you're grasp of comicbook history, or even CBM history lacks alot to be desired. Keep on trollin'.
OverlyManlyMan - 3/27/2012, 11:17 AM
@Brazil batman blah blah

obvious troll is obvious
BIGBMH - 3/27/2012, 11:18 AM

finaljustice671 - 3/27/2012, 11:28 AM
"If this guy hits someone, he falls down. If this guy hits someone, he flies backwards. Its very complicated.

Umm I hope he's not referring to Cap in that first sentence because Hydra guys went flying every time they got hit in TFA lol Would totally screw up the continuity. Hope he's just talking about Black Widow, Fury, and Hawkeye.
