RUMOR: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Easter Egg That Was 'ALMOST' In THE AVENGERS

A new report is in, stating that a certain Spider-Man reference almost made it's way into The Avengers and was left out only because of time constraints.

Latino Review has been around for a while and they've been knocking it out of the park recently with their Iron Man 3 scoops so I tend to believe them when they post interesting stories like this. According to the site, Sony and Marvel Studios were apparently very close to letting an element of the Spider-Man universe appear in Joss Whedon's mega [insert superlative adjective] film. Here's what was reported----

Imagine my surprise when I heard a rumor that the Oscorp Tower from Amazing Spider-Man was “this close” to becoming part of the sky line for Avengers. (Hint: pretty surprised)

Here’s the story – last week, The Amazing Spider-Man’s production designer J Michael Riva (he passed away recently after suffering a stroke at the age of 63). Not only did he design the Oscorp Tower for ASM, but he has a staggering resume of awesomeness including The Goonies, The Color Purple, A Few Good Men, Congo, Evolution, and the upcoming Django Unchained.

Oh – And the Iron Man movies.

That design overlap, and the stunning look of the Oscorp Tower (seriously stunning) was enough for Marvel Studios and Sony to have the discussion about inserting Oscorp into The Avengers skyline. The Unified Marvel Manhattan Skyline almost existed.

By the time the Oscorp building was fully designed, The Avengers digital Manhattan was already basically rendered and there was some up-conversion that needed to go down, so – for timing – it was scrapped.

BUT – Sony and Disney were going to let this happen. THAT’s the key thing here. Timing just didn’t work out.

In reality, this probably would've been one of those blink-and-you-miss-it type Easter eggs, similar to the Arnim Zola reference in Captain America: The First Avenger. Still, it's interesting to hear that such dialogue is taking place between Sony and Marvel. Maybe something can be worked out earlier on for the next Avengers movie?

Osiris - 6/11/2012, 3:22 PM
maybe they will put an Avengers Egg in ASM. Maybe Stark tower.
TayDee - 6/11/2012, 3:22 PM
^^^ yeah its a little too late for that
jimoakley666 - 6/11/2012, 3:25 PM
I wonder if we'll see Stark Tower pop up in ASM...
Hudson3D - 6/11/2012, 3:27 PM
It's all well and good saying this now but it didn't happen.

@Osiris.. It won't happen!

I'm going to bed.. Good night.
TayDee - 6/11/2012, 3:34 PM
Random thought, but I'm kinda tired of all these movies being set in New York. Aside from Thor, they've all been set in the same state.

TayDee@ You forgot Iron Man. If im right he was in L.A.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 6/11/2012, 3:40 PM
You know how you have that feeling where you think you almost have something in your grasp but then it just disappeared? Yeah......That's what I feel right now. That little teaser would've been a cool addition to The Avengers flick. What a tease. :(

Stay EPIC, my friends!
manofmidgard - 6/11/2012, 3:42 PM
so it could have been cool, but wasn't. sigh. oh well avengers had plenty of awesome anyway. just hope spidey doesn't disappoint =)
KidfromBrooklyn - 6/11/2012, 3:43 PM
That would've been one epic second in an already epic movie.
dmadtroll - 6/11/2012, 3:43 PM
well it would've been nice.. if tobey was still spiderman!!! xD
DraculaX - 6/11/2012, 3:45 PM
They could have put it in one of the deleted scenes. But how are they gonna explain where Spidey was when the invasion was going down?
EmoSpidey - 6/11/2012, 3:46 PM
@Taydee @Alex For the majority of the movies the Incredible Hulk and Captain America TFA didn't take place in NYC either.
TayDee - 6/11/2012, 3:47 PM
AlexDeLarge87 - But it was still primarily based in NY. I mean I don't have a major problem with it, im just saying they need to explore some more areas.

I actually think having Spider-Man in Avengers 2 will benefit both companies, as it seems that the next step in sharing universes from movies made by one studio is to start sharing between multiple studios.

Although in this Post-Avengers' world, it seems Sony are going for a Venom movie, that will then share with TASM universe.
95 - 6/11/2012, 3:50 PM
Studios getting working together. How cute.
Thanos005 - 6/11/2012, 3:51 PM
Sony is BROKE, and they are a smart company. They know this will only benefit them.
PersonaPostOvo - 6/11/2012, 3:53 PM
They should have at least put a Daily Bugle newspaper there somewhere or at least a stack of them.

Kind of weird that Spider-Man was nowhere to be seen since he lives and is active in Manhattan.
AnungUnRama - 6/11/2012, 3:54 PM
@DragonofDarknessXIII: He not yet existed - Recall that TASM is a reboot new origin story and all that. But the Oscorp Tower did exist.
Greengo - 6/11/2012, 3:55 PM
Yeah then everyone would be bitching "well where was SpiderMan??"

Oh wait too late they already are/did : )
Tomontherun99 - 6/11/2012, 4:00 PM
Obviously we have to take this with a grain of salt. It's a shame about the passing of Mr Riva, he was a great designer.
Tymminator - 6/11/2012, 4:01 PM
I don't remember any part of Iron Man being in NY. Iron Man 2 did have the Stark exhibit show there, but of all the places Tony flew around at in the first Iron Man, I remember no New York.
thunderforce - 6/11/2012, 4:03 PM
sweet .
Digitaria51 - 6/11/2012, 4:16 PM
Holy sh*t! We missed out on a 2 second shot of a building in a movie!
DukeAcureds - 6/11/2012, 4:20 PM
We do have Clark Gregg reprising Agent Phil Coulson in Ultimate Spider-Man, along with JK Simmons' JJJ from the Raimi trilogy.
And that trilogy itself had a Tom Jane Punisher cameo and a mention of Dr. Strange existing, in Spider-Man 2. Also Michael Clarke Duncan reprised Kingpin (owned by Fox) in the MTV tie-in series to the Raimi trilogy.
And, of course, Stan Lee's original cameo in the first Spider-Man had a referance to the Bryan Singer X-Men film, but they cut it out. He said he thought that would "make the whole movie", but thay cut it out. So ahead of his time that Stan Lee is.

I'm very skeptical of alot of what i read on the Internet so i take it all with a grain of salt though it does sound cool.
95 - 6/11/2012, 4:23 PM
@Goomba

That got a chuckle from me. I'll give you that.
AverageJoe - 6/11/2012, 4:30 PM
The executives at Sony would morons if they didn't pursue some sort of merger of the titles. Especially since the Avengers exploded at the box office. I just can't see a downside to this. Yes, I know there are legal complications, but I would not let that stop this from happening.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa I call bull shit XD Ever since that lady [frick]ed up n said Spideys name the "easter eggs" or "cameos" rumors came along. While it would have been sweet I really doubt it this is true.
DanteSparda - 6/11/2012, 4:41 PM
But then NY should be semi-destroyed in TASpider-Man after the invasion so PLOT-HOLE!!

But it would have been awesome, also it would be great if in TASM Peter's parents are agents of SHIELD!
Greengo - 6/11/2012, 4:56 PM
@ blackandyellow: you'd be right!
thewonderer - 6/11/2012, 5:02 PM
The main problem with putting Spider-Man is that Sony would have to get money for it. Marvel is damn cheap, and thus probably wouldn't go for it.

Hell Marvel won't even make a Hulk film. Yeah no chance for Spider-Man any time soon
Darkhaven - 6/11/2012, 5:02 PM
@blackandyellow: Holy shit, you weren't joking! People...Marvel will own Spider-Man again very soon. Making shit like Tonka and Battleship, Sony will have no choice BUT to sell it back to Marvel, in order to avoid full bankruptcy :D
JoeMomma29 - 6/11/2012, 5:03 PM
I hate that why bring it up now! It like when you go to BestBuy and you buy something expensive and the annoying cashier says something stupid like "Ohhhhh that was on sale yesterday and you could have saved like 50% off". Argh why tell me that it does me no good make me feel like crap. Okay rant over, it would have been cool but like others said would not believe it till I can see it.
kevberg - 6/11/2012, 5:07 PM
Ok with that anyway. Spidey being in the movie wouldn't be right. He wasn't a member till this decade anyway.

The Avengers had all the awesome that it needed.

Conaan - 6/11/2012, 5:10 PM
holy hell...

I don't believe this. That "spirit of cooperation" that I have always thought to be possible between these studios isn't just a goofy day dream after all.

Fantastic!

BUT let me say this: I know that the assholes at FOX could never possibly be this cool.

They could never possibly take a break from figuring out new and clever ways of [frick]ing up the X-verse more and more to collaborate with another studio.
OdinsBeard - 6/11/2012, 5:10 PM
with all of this Ultimate Spider-Man crap going around on TV i hope Marvel keep their hands off of spider-man for a very, very long time. because once they do its "LET'S LET BENIDS DO THE WHOLE THING!!" and once that happens he'll go "..well we've seen spider-man this way... and we've done spider-man that other way.. so let's do something totally DIFFERENT for the movie! keen!" and Marvel we'll go "BRILLIANT!! WHY DIDN'T WE EVER THING OF THAT?! YOUR GENIUS IS UNPARALLELED!" And we won't get anything close to the spider-man movie we've been wanting..

the way AvX is going down i'm surprised anyone wants marvel to have the rights to any of their characters..
