THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Easter Eggs And CGI Discussed By The Film's Editor

An interesting chat about how to cut down a comic book script to a manageable film length with The Amazing Spider-Man editor, Alan Edward Bell. Unsurprisingly, the ending leaves the door open for a sequel.

All-in-all, an interesting chat with the film's editor who says to "keep your eyes open for easter eggs" during the film. And from the tone of the conversation, it appears that the DVD/Blu-ray release for the film will surely include a few additional scenes left on the cutting room floor.

Running Time: 2 hrs 16 min
Release Date: July 3, 2012 (USA)
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, Emma Stone, Sally Field and Martin Sheen.
Directed by: Marc Webb
Written by: James Vanderbilt (initial screenplay),Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves (revised draft)

The Amazing Spider-Man is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man in film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school.

The film's development began simultaneously with Sony announcing the cancellation of Spider-Man 4. Opting for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel, the studio announced a July 2012 release date for what was now titled The Amazing Spider-Man. James Vanderbilt was hired to write the script while Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves helped fine-tune the script. Filming started in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City with the help of RED Epic camera. The film entered post-production in April 2011.

Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images, 2 theatrical trailers, a prologue screening in certain cities and a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012. A sequel of the film is being planned for release in 2014 with James Vanderbilt hired to again write the screenplay.

I can't get over the look of the film - Say what you will about the costume, it's WAY TOO contemporary looking. It may look good to some of you now, but twenty years from now it's going to look very '2012ish' the way some things look VERY 70's or 80's.

I want the definitive, iconic vision of the character dammit!!!

For a highschool / young college kid, they should have gone the more homemade (less professional costume prop department capabilities) route and worked in the uneven homemade stitching from Spiderman Edge of time, while using the more angular eyes (WHICH WOULDN'T BE F*%#ING YELLOW!!!)

Avengers cameo in Spider-Man! :P

@Ninjajesus

Does the Lizard still look like shit?
95 - 6/23/2012, 11:35 PM
Did he edit out all The Lizard scenes to make the film good? lol.
95 - 6/24/2012, 12:02 AM
@NinjaJesus

Are you the only one who felt that way about The Lizard's CGI? You know what I'll think of your opinion if critics end up criticizing the VFX. I have my doubts. Many people do. The Lizard is poorly rendered, imho. You've done little to convince me, seeing as you're a little biased. Me? Look back a year. I was a supporter of this film. ImagesWorks killed it for me.
NickKaseAKAthePieEATERxGETIT - 6/24/2012, 12:03 AM

LMFAO !!!!

@NinjaJesus

My problem isn't the design. It's how it was executed. If you liked it— that's fine. I hope I like it— doubt it, though. And I found your first reply condescending ("idiotic"). Gave off a mad-fanboy-vibe. Now I can see that isn't so.
95 - 6/24/2012, 12:38 AM
Understandable.

Most anticipated movie of the year by [frick]ing far. I'm traveling two hours by car and catching a [frick]ing PLANE for this. And only for this. I want to see it on IMAX 3D and the closest is in other state, so in another state it [frick]ing is.

Now ask WHERE is the fanbase for this, naysayers. This film will rule July, and deservedly so. NinjaJesus, ecstatic to hear that you love it, I never doubted for one second how [frick]ing brilliant this will be.

This whole year is Christimas for comic book movie fans, mates. Smiling from ear to ear. My spider-sense is tingling and my body is [frick]ing ready.
Jollem - 6/24/2012, 1:39 AM
i like spider-man. what's the reason for me to hate a spider-man movie, especially if i have not even seen it yet? unnecessary, unneeded, unwanted reboot? according to whom? really?

so, they were never supposed to make another spider-man movie ever again?

you know what? i hope they reboot spider-man at least 5 more damn times in my lifetime. how 'bout that? i would be more than be happy to see spider-man on the silver screen for as long as interested, creative people want to do it. hell, if no one else wants to, i will
iJackSparrow - 6/24/2012, 2:31 AM
Just to keep the trend:

I endorse Owlman's statement!

No Norman in the movie, but he is mentioned and is important to the plot. It is implied he is in the after credits scene.

WellDrawn I agree. Trying to pull a "more homemade look" and show us what they are showing us with this uniform?

It's not even that it's 2012ish. It's just ugly...
thewolfx - 6/24/2012, 8:46 AM

oh shit grif is back shit just got real
judoka - 6/24/2012, 2:48 PM
@BossWalsh: You heard wrong

@TheBostonBatman: Norman Osborn (unconfirmed, but implied)
judoka - 6/24/2012, 2:50 PM
The after credits scene doesn't name him as Norman, but a shadowy figure is speaking to an imprisoned Connors (you can actually see part of the scene in the third international trailer). You can't see his face, similar to Moriarty's appearance in the first Sherlock Holmes movie.
riseofLOGANX36 - 6/24/2012, 3:06 PM
Im smelling rotten eggs when i see this crap fest. Amazeing spider-man my ass! Smelles like ultamate garbage to me.

NUFF said BUB!
SpeedyX10 - 6/24/2012, 3:11 PM
I'm tired of people saying the lizard looks terrible and that the costume is dumb. I think everyone is overreacting and they need to stop trolling.
ThaReaperAssassin - 6/24/2012, 3:43 PM
@JonasWepeel lol I agree
iJackSparrow - 6/24/2012, 3:49 PM
They won't stop trolling. The Amazing Spider-Man will hit the box office hard and keep going, and they will keep bad mouthing ad nauseam because for the Nolanites all that it matters is box office records.

You can't stop a good film of finding its audience, and The Amazing Spider-Man for what people are saying is one of the best films of its genre. Haters gonna have meltdowns while the public and critic get amazed. After The Avengers, I no longer care what this stupid people have to say. Your fear won't make this film look bad, sillies. It makes YOU look bad, and the film that you are hoping for in the process.

By the way, has anyone noticed that The Amazing Spider-Man has a 70/100 rating on the Critic's Choice right now, while TDKR has a 60/100 score? What is up with the embargo over TDKR reviews?
thewolfx - 6/24/2012, 7:55 PM
the 2 post above me are full of butthurt and stupid :)
Jollem - 6/25/2012, 12:50 AM
@thewolfx - your highly(HIGHLY)repetitive posts for well over the past year have been filled of the booty hurt and stupidity. what are you trying to prove at this point? for over a year. the same thing. apparently, this new take on the spider-man leaves a bad taste in your mouth and a sharp, constant(for at LEAST a year)pain in your o-ring. i get it. you "just hate this shitz". i get it. i'm sure many people have gotten that fact in well over an entire year of dedicated hate. so much dedication to negativity and hatred. use your awesome logic powers for good, sir :)
0ptimusCrime - 6/25/2012, 2:47 AM
is it so hard to GTFO threads you dont care about or even Hate, Spider-man will rock, Batman also in the US.
in Holland TDKR is a mere Shadow of Spider-man.
lets wait what happens and just enjoy both fricking movies

So Guys, go to your own "beloved" Threads and Leave Spidey Alone.
Just Enjoy the fact we have Avengers, Spider-man and Batman in 1 Year!

thewolfx - 6/25/2012, 9:15 AM
i trolled the [frick] out you 3

key word all 3 of you panzies are butthurt cus my words speak truth , the design of said film is lame

and these reviews sofar arent as great as you dumbasses expected

its funny how you lil gremlins think i say the same thing about the movie which to you is always negative but if you realy look at them is out of positivity .

I.E i dont wanna see spidey go in the wrong direction (tdk direction)

now please all 3 of you go kiss ifans scaly ass :)
SuspenseSmith - 6/30/2012, 10:42 AM
I ain't saying nothing until July 3rd when I have finally seen the film.

I will see it though. I never abandon Spider-Man's films no matter how good or bad it might turn out.
SuspenseSmith - 6/30/2012, 10:48 AM
I just hope they don't have to reboot it again. That'd suck.

Please be good enough to have a kick ass sequel. That's all I want from this movie.

Batman Begins was good enough to give us The Dark Knight.

Incredible Hulk was good enough to give us the Hulk of the Avengers film.

Both were reboots. Both were good but not as widely seen in theaters. Both were coming off of really bad previous films: Batman and Robin and Ang Lee's Hulk.

TASM is in the same category as Batman Begins and Incredible Hulk but perhaps more of an actual remake. Before Batman begins, none of the other movies really focused on the origin. In Incredible Hulk, the glossed over the origin in 5 minutes.

For Spidey, though, the origin has been done already but you can't revamp Spider-Man without the origin really. Not like Incredible Hulk.
