Veteran actor Ciarán Hinds (John Carter, Ghost Rider:SOV, Munich, There Will Be Blood) has signed on to play Mance Rayder in Season 3 of HBO's Game of Thrones.

The character was teased in Season 2, a former Night's Watchman, he now leads the Wildings on a deadly march to overtake the Seven Kingdoms or maybe it's to flee from something... Regardless, he'll definitely have a lasting impact on Kit Harrington's Jon Snow.

Season 3 of Game of Thrones kicksoff March 31, 2013.

Hinds as Aberforth Dumbledore in Harry Potter.

Here's your Mance Rayder.

Cirian Hinds can act.

But I always saw Rayder as far more rugged and energetic a character.

Haha, why would you use a pic of him in heavy makeup for a casting announcement???

Here is a better pic. He was awesome in ROME, I just pictured him different...

HavocPrime - 8/17/2012, 9:29 AM
Interesting choice, but Game of Thrones casting choices haven't been bad so far.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/17/2012, 9:38 AM
I dont mind. He is good actor.

Adaptations are always little bit different.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/17/2012, 9:41 AM
James Purefoy would have been cool.
amirite - 8/17/2012, 10:09 AM
i thought James Purefoy from rome would of been amazing if they had him with a beard like when he was in gaul.

@Talont

If that is him, than not only did you get a much better picture but he looks to fit into this medieval world of Game of Thrones. Someone please just FREEZE me til Late March 2013. I cannot wait to see this next season, it or the one after will be the best so far.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 8/17/2012, 10:28 AM

Ciaran was great in Munich, that's mostly what I remember him from whenever i see him in movies now, but Yes he was a fantastic Julius Cesar, Great move, also the characters in the show have had there ages ramped up a bit so the complaining about he's to old is pretty irrelevant, if the writers keep doing what there doing and let Hinds get into this role he as well as the story will floruish and come together pretty smoothly.... i hope lol.
Triptheorist - 8/17/2012, 12:31 PM
I just saw him in Political Animals. He's about 50lbs heavier than he is in those photos. Hopefully he can drop the weight before shooting.
KillerOfSaints - 8/17/2012, 12:53 PM
Yes
KillerOfSaints - 8/17/2012, 12:54 PM
Wasn't there a doosh bag that said no to the character?
MarkJulian - 8/17/2012, 12:57 PM
No, that was Dominic West and he didn't bother to watch the show before saying no.
Talontd - 8/17/2012, 1:45 PM
Man, someone beat the snot outta him when he was younger, look at that nose! Lol.

I pictured MANCE differently, but this show is SO GOOD, I won't complain one bit. Every decision they made (other than the sanitizing of ARYA's character, IMO), has been the right one....and I've read every book twice!!
Darkapollo - 8/17/2012, 8:04 PM
@Spock

Do yourself a favour and read the books. If you love the HBO series you will be addicted to the books.
RorMachine - 8/18/2012, 6:43 AM
A great actor no doubt, but like many others I pictured Mance quite a bit younger.
