Matthew Vaughn Set For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII?

Matthew Vaughn just might be set for Star Wars: Episode 7 based on responses from actor Jason Flemyng who happens to be a frequent collaborator of Vaughn's. "Me and [Matthew Vaughn] have done nine films together so I'm sure I'll get the call for Star Wars."

By Mark Julian - 11/27/2012

Flemyng (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class) and Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class ) are very close friends, so much so that Vaughn has put Flemyng in EVERY film that he's ever directed. So when Flemyng was fielding questions at the UK premiere for Seven Psychopaths the discussion naturally turned to Star Wars and if he's talked with Vaughn about the project.

"Me and [Matthew Vaughn] have done nine films together so I'm sure I'll get the call for Star Wars. But I'm sure it's going to be 'Flemyng, no...I know on paper it doesn't look like much but I promise you it's essential to the part.' So we'll see what happens with that."(sic)

After realizing that he just potentially spilled the beans, Flemyng had an 'interesting' look on his face to say the least. Still, until we receive official confirmation, take this as a rumor for now....but it would certainly explain Vaughn's relatively last-minute decision to drop out of X-Men: Days of Future Past. [Flemyng also confirmed his return as Azazel by the way.]

If its true then there is a god. He's my 1st choice :)
SUPERMAN2013 - 11/27/2012, 6:56 PM
he seems like a really cool guy :)

I recon he could fit in star wars some where,an alien maybe, maybe even a sith, they did a great job of making him azazel
ElBicho - 11/27/2012, 6:57 PM
They could do worse. At least it's not Ratner or Snyder.
RorMachine - 11/27/2012, 6:59 PM
Hmm, seems to have confirmed that he's at least involved in discussions anyway..hope it's definite.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 11/27/2012, 7:04 PM
Vaughn could get or have the job but he is notorious for leaving before production starts. He is a good director though.
marvel72 - 11/27/2012, 7:05 PM
he might be the right choice for the job.it would be pretty much impossible to make a movie worse than the prequels.
Mystery - 11/27/2012, 7:06 PM
Fine with me

Still waiting for the cam or even better, dvd quality rip of 7 psychopaths.
Funsize - 11/27/2012, 7:09 PM
Oh god I hope so. Im sick of people turning down this movie.
Giznad - 11/27/2012, 7:11 PM
I think Stardust is the closest to the overall scope of Star Wars. And that was great. Vaughn rules.
SmellofDuty - 11/27/2012, 7:14 PM
Good Lord yes.
GuardianAngel - 11/27/2012, 7:19 PM
One of the rare times nobody says "YES!!!!" or "God, No!". It's just "Yeah, sure, I'm fine with that."
shadearts - 11/27/2012, 7:21 PM
Would explain his decision to drop x-men
BatmanBlueLantern - 11/27/2012, 7:22 PM
Awesome, he is a great director. I wanted him for Justice League, but Star Wars is good to.
GetsugaTensho22 - 11/27/2012, 7:24 PM
Obvious rumor is obvious.
Still, Vaughn makes great films. If you're still upset that he made a movie about characters owned by FOX and not the Mighty Marvel Studios, then you don't even deserve to talk about Movies with the rest of the big boys.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 11/27/2012, 7:24 PM
I don't see the big thing with Vaughn. I mean, Kick-Ass was great, but it is indie at best. Fist Ass was a good movie, but a God-Awful X-Men film. But to lay upon him a franchise with such big aspirations and a huge fanbase, it's just, well... Detrimental to the saga... Let him do more before you overbear him with projects.
DarthTesla - 11/27/2012, 7:28 PM
Disney just needs to cut the bullshit and just pay Joss Whedon or Jon Favreau like a billion dollars to write and direct.
maxxgone - 11/27/2012, 7:31 PM
@manofsteel1013...

completely agree. it would be tremendous to see LESS computer fx & more practical. and after those epic hit-girl fight sequences, just imagining how he'd pull of the light-saber fights...j.e.s.u.s.h.c.h.r.i.s.t.

i don't know a ton about vaughn's M.O., but in his hands id be entirely at ease.
NightAvenger - 11/27/2012, 7:32 PM
^If it was a good movie, then why complain about him as a director?

"A bad X-men movie" doesn't mean he would make a bad Star Wars.
jimpinto24 - 11/27/2012, 7:32 PM
I would like to see Matthew Vaughn helm Star Wars Episode 7. But I'm still hoping for Peter Jackson.
DioFoRio - 11/27/2012, 7:35 PM
eh. Whats the worse that could happen?
StarkAnthony - 11/27/2012, 7:43 PM
Wait you said he dropped DoFP but in the next sentence said he confirmed his return as Azazel? so is he in DoFP or not?
95 - 11/27/2012, 7:47 PM
I thought he was suppose to do The Secret Service?
GuardianAngel - 11/27/2012, 7:48 PM
@HalloweenJack Interesting. Which interview was that from?
DioFoRio - 11/27/2012, 7:49 PM
he left thor too if I recall.

COME ON VAUGHN JUST DO DOFP SO SINGER DOESN'T KEEP SCREWING UP THE X-MEN FRANCHISE
95 - 11/27/2012, 7:57 PM
For those who want Matthew Vaughn for Star Wars Episode 7... why? I don't know much about the guy, so I'm curious as to why some of you like him. His attitude towards X-Men: First Class hasn't been very fan friendly. Although, he could be a huge Star Wars fanboy (which is what we need). If he gets the gig, they need to release a video interview of him saying the normal spiel about his excitement. You can tell who is truly passionate about a project and who is not.

Interesting....

When I saw this headline under Colin Trevorrow's new gig... I was bummed. I wanted that Safety Not Guaranteed guy. Vaughn is not who I'd ever imagine inheriting Star Wars. Of all the things we've heard about this project, this makes me completely uninterested. Don't make this Episode 7 an advertisement for toy lightsabers!
ATrueHero1987 - 11/27/2012, 8:16 PM
@HalloweenJack I think I kinda know what you're talking about. It was reported on this site around the time X-Men: FC was released. He said something like he doesn't care much about the source material.

I don't really have a problem with Vaughn though.
ATrueHero1987 - 11/27/2012, 8:20 PM
@DarthTesla By the time they start filming Star Wars, Whedon will be filming The Avengers 2.
95 - 11/27/2012, 8:23 PM
I like this Jason Flemyng guy, though. Thought his little C-3PO move was funny. He should get a part in the film.
SkaBoy - 11/27/2012, 8:30 PM
I am rarely ever right, so I have to say I called it in these comments a couple of weeks ago. It was an educated guess about who would be available and could pull this off. I knew he wouldn't give up Xmen for secret service. Always seemed like a decoy to me.
DarthTesla - 11/27/2012, 8:34 PM
@Marvel87 - Well I can dream.
CapFan79 - 11/27/2012, 8:48 PM
He may direct SW but not Ep VII. They hired writers for all 3. Whose to say Disney isn't lining up directors like they do with Marvel films. I still think Favreau will direct one. Assuming they follow the tone set by the others Fav is best for VII. Perhaps Vaughn is best for the middle darker episode? Perhaps Peter Jackson would be available for Ep 9 by then?
JustinCJWiggins - 11/27/2012, 9:18 PM
D: NO. Vaughn is sloppy as hell; all of his movies have great moments that you have to pick out of the general turd sandwich. Prof. X and Magneto were awesome in First Class. EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKED. Kick Ass betrayed its source material by turning a silver age style vigilante into a JET PACK FLYING MASS MURDERING SOCIOPATH. Also, Big Daddy's origin was raped then aborted. Stardust: Cool visuals, muddled plot, random contrived climax ending. Again, NO.
Happy11 - 11/27/2012, 10:05 PM
Sorry I just can't get excited about star wars anymore.
LongLiveThrawn - 11/27/2012, 10:13 PM
Makes sense. Mark Hamill was attached to star in his 'Secret Service' adaption... In other words he is not making Secret Service and Mark was just cast in Star Wars VII that he is directing...
mgeoff88 - 11/27/2012, 10:48 PM
Wow, Matthew Vaughn? Huh, I never thought of him as a director for Episode 7.

I thought Kick-Ass was ok, but I really enjoyed First Class. I wouldn't mind him getting the gig at all.

Originally tweeted by Mark Millar:

Just off the phone with my fave director & he's buzzing about this Star Wars thing, saying it's his dream gig. I told him to go for it.

The only hint I'll give is that we've known each other 5 years and he sneaked onto the Dagobah set at Elstree when he was 8 years old.

Vaughn's dream has been to direct MH (Mark Hamill) since he was 8.

BAIKINMAN - 11/28/2012, 12:38 AM
It's going to be Whedon to direct. "Why would Disney give Star Wars to someone else?..How much money did the AVENGERS make again???? Disney wants to have the biggest profit for the next Star Wars movie. It's just plain retarded to NOT give the job to Joss Whedon...

"Joss Whedon's FIREFLY shows that he is more than experienced and qualified to handle the next Star Wars movie, Disney will not F#@! around"...
darkmetal - 11/28/2012, 2:09 AM
Mark Millar must have a really big freaking mouth. He tried really hard to break the news on his Twitter.
Hope Vaughn doesnt tell Millar too much about it, Millar will spoil it.
Gulon180 - 11/28/2012, 3:03 AM
Steven Spielberg....why is there all this jibber jabber on the subject of whos going to direct? The only front runner, no one even comes close to him. this is a no brainer.
Charlie2094 - 11/28/2012, 3:31 AM
No problem with this! My first choice was Spielberg (who was really in my eyes, the only logical choice) but Vaughn is a solid choice, definitely a good director and seems to have the right passion for the franchise; I've heard him and Millar quote and reference Star Wars before several times, just as fans.

@ WhiskeyTango

But Whedon's got Avengers 2 to get out in 2015 too. NO WAY is he going to be doing both Avengers 2 and Star Wars Episode VII with just over two years to make both for their 2015 release dates. Hard enough doing one huge film, let alone probably the biggest film event of our generation too. The ONLY way Whedon will direct is if he pulls out of Avengers 2. Which won't happen, not being the hit it was.
rea1dea1stee1 - 11/28/2012, 3:47 AM
i thing we'll be hearing confirmation on who it'll be very soon..Vaughn's a safe choice.. as long as they shoot on location with practical effects i'll be happy... ;)
IamNotLegend - 11/28/2012, 3:49 AM
Guys, please stop mentioning directors that obviously can't direct these because of prior commitments.

Joss Wheadon: Hired by Marvel/Disney to oversee Marvel's phase 2 story details, he doesn't have time. Would you want someone else handling the Avengers going forward

Peter Jackson: A little busy with some films called The Hobbit....ever hear of those. He's tied up for the next 3 years with those. Plus I doubt he'd want to jump into another franchise right away

Spielberg: Already flat out said he didn't want to do it.

Matthew Vaughn, Jon Favreau and Joe Johnson are the only real contenders and I think Vaughn just came out ahead of every one else to take the lead on this.
SamWinchester - 11/28/2012, 4:12 AM
I think he might be the right choice for this film. Judging from all of his previous work, he really seems to know how to balance an enormous amount of characters like the way he did in "First Class" even though that wasn't my favorite "X-Men" entry.

By the way, I dont mean to spam or troll guys but I'm trying to win a photo contest on Photobucket and I could really use your help.

If you have a Photobucket account and could sign into it and click on the heart-shaped "like" button (on this page: http://s830.beta.photobucket.com/user/U2er/story/3567), it would mean the world to me. Thanks. :)
