More From Don Cheadle On IRON MAN 3
Don Cheadle discusses the tone of Iron Man 3 and reveals a spoiler? The Golden Globe winner brings a unique sense of humor to a few interviews where he addresses Shane Black's vison for Shellhead."I'm not supposed to say that he kills Robert Downey Jr.'s character. Is that a spoiler?"
"The tone is there's more of an existential journey that Tony's on trying to come to grips with this thing that he created that is creating him, too. Who's really in control? And the toll that it takes on his relationships. And then a lot of s--t blows up. Which is what you want in Iron Man 3."
The actor agrees with early descriptions that the film is like a buddy cop, action movie as he'll be doing a lot of fighting alongside Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.
In a separate interview, speaking on the high expectation level for the film, Cheadle shared, "I hope that it performs to those levels. We did a little piece of it at Comic-Con and people went crazy," he said. "The script is good. We're doing a couple re-shoots next week, but I'm encouraged."
But before he could dive too deep into the project Cheadle started having fun to throw the interviewer off. "I'm not supposed to say that he kills Robert Downey Jr.'s character. Is that a spoiler? That would be a spoiler. You knew that was coming. You read the comic books," he said. "I will just say that the buddy relationship that these guys have gets tighter. The third act set piece for the big finale is bigger and badder. It's just a lot more."
Based on Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline and following the box-office shattering events of Marvel's The Avengers, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has become the target of global terrorist The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley) who has secretly been the mastermind behind most of the tragedies in Tony's life. Isolated from his fellow Avengers, Tony will have to devise his most advanced armor yet if he hopes to save the woman he loves, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Standing beside Tony as he takes on Mandarin's villainous allies and Ten Rings subordinates will be War Machine James Rhodey (Don Cheadle) who was conspicuously absent during the Chituari invasion in New York. Based on a screenplay by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Drew Pearce (Godzilla, Sherlock Holmes 3).
