THE AVENGERS Earned $202.4M On Blu-ray &DVD In 2012

Pretty impressive numbers for the two top superhero films of 2012. There are 'supposed' summer blockbusters that don't earn that much during their theatrical runs. Also, keep in mind that these numbers are just for blu-ray and dvd and don't include earnings from the rental or digital market. Of course both films have added to these totals in the new year.

Music to the ears!!!
TheFox - 2/5/2013, 3:39 PM
Nice! Now if only Dredd could rack up some equally solid sales (or at least some decent numbers), then maybe we could get a sequel sometime in the near future...

Are they not just numbers for the US?
thewonderer - 2/5/2013, 3:40 PM
I would like to take this comment space to say both were fantastic films and deserve it.

Lets keep it that way.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 2/5/2013, 3:41 PM

You know it's against the Law to like both.

Well deserved for the Avengers. Easily the best CBM of all time.
marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 3:52 PM
excellent news,i brought a steelbook copy of the avengers it was a hmv exclusive & my fellow brits will know that hmv has now closed down.

could make the steelbook blu-ray sort after collectable.

@ thewonderer

you'll make up your mind one minute you're saying the avengers is boring & overrated the next you praise it by saying its fantastic. :D
shiverman20 - 2/5/2013, 3:52 PM
Making money like this makes me wonder exactly how many 'Phases' they are already planning to boot out! Marvel are very forward thinking and open minded for a film studio, who knows what they might already have planned beyond Phase 3!
flames809 - 2/5/2013, 3:58 PM
4 weeks to 14 weeks now thats something...
superotherside - 2/5/2013, 3:58 PM
Well deserved. Hope Dredd make lots of money on DVD as well that way we can get a sequel!
Azrael725 - 2/5/2013, 4:01 PM
if i hear anyone start going off about how, "HAHA THE AVENGERS KICKED BATMAN'S ASS NOLAN'S A DOUCHEBAG!" or vice versa then i'll will punch a baby lol but seriously no offense to Mark Julian this just adds fuel to a petty pissing contest.

@Levitikuz: Django was so damn good! I really need to go see it again before it leaves theaters. It would be my third time.
ATrueHero1987 - 2/5/2013, 4:04 PM
@thewonderer forgive me but I don't believe you. You ALWAYS contradict yourself.
flames809 - 2/5/2013, 4:07 PM
agreed with heroichughes
marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 4:11 PM
this is the edition i got & i've an uncut copy from the u.s as well.

@ flames809

considering sales of the film will slow down after its released,i wonder how much the dark knight rises made in the same period of time.

as for the avengers

its first week of release on home media in the U.S.the film topped the nielsen videoscan first alert chart, which tracks overall disc sales,as well as the dedicated blu-ray disc sales chart with 72% of unit sales coming from blu-ray,a record high for a new-release in which both the dvd & blu-ray formats were released simultaneously.23% of total avengers sales came from the higher-priced blu-ray 3D combo pack.

Azrael725- MarkJulian knows this will start a flame war.

marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 4:24 PM
@ jcameron

XD hahahahaha you're right it did look odd but we are talking shield tech maybe it was like a invisible hearing aid.

Jollem - 2/5/2013, 4:25 PM
CoolantTech - 2/5/2013, 4:30 PM
@JCameron Wow.. smh it was obviously extremely Small hightech earpieces that you couldn't see, Joss Whedon trusted his audience's intelligence I thought that was pretty obvious genuis
ComicBookSon - 2/5/2013, 4:33 PM
marvel72
Doubt it because everyone at shield had bluetooth earpieces. Why wouldn't they have hightech earpieces?
SpideyQuad - 2/5/2013, 4:35 PM
As the Incredible Hulk would say, "puny TDKR"
thespiderkat - 2/5/2013, 4:35 PM

marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 4:37 PM
@ comicbookson

because they are only shield agents & not a super-team going into battle.

i don't know maybe stark tech then if not shield tech.
marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 4:38 PM
@ grayfox117

i agree i believe they would of been happy with $800,000,000.
ComicBookSon - 2/5/2013, 4:40 PM
TDKR has only been out for 4 weeks and is already almost up to Avengers.
flames809 - 2/5/2013, 4:47 PM
idk man check it man. Abd its only been out for 4 weeks so avengers had its time to make that money... Which is good, im glad both films are making lots of money. But tdkr might catch up or pass it the way its going @marvel
ComicBookSon - 2/5/2013, 4:52 PM
flames809
I know right. When/if the day comes when TDKR beats Avengers in blu ray and dvd sales, trolls have my permission to die.
hench - 2/5/2013, 4:54 PM
Pitch Perfect > Dark Knight Rises + Avengers..... oh did I mention I do meth...
thespiderkat - 2/5/2013, 4:55 PM
yeah sure... with skyfall and the hobbit coming out soon, TDKR is gonna "catch up or pass"....
marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 4:57 PM
@ comicbookson

the avengers came out 25.9.12 so anyone who wanted it brought it then, some people may of wanted it for christmas as well but brought it when it first came out.

the dark knight rises came out 3.12.12 just in time for christmas maybe thats why it made that kind of money in four weeks.
marvel72 - 2/5/2013, 4:59 PM
@ ComicBookSon

i believe everyone that wanted the movie has it by now,i'm waiting for the bargin bin edition.
Darth258 - 2/5/2013, 5:00 PM
Some people just wanna watch the world burn...

Squish - 2/5/2013, 5:01 PM
Hey wonderbread you're a piece of shit. You're so god damn fake. Avengers FTW.

Oh and Heroic Hughes, get off welfare you pathetic waste of life.
Squish - 2/5/2013, 5:04 PM
Hey jcameron, go suck Nolan's Dong. Dark Knight Rises has 10 times as many plot holes as the Avengers. We know the dark knight is an excellent movie but rises may be the worst Nolan movie ever made.
Squish - 2/5/2013, 5:10 PM
Hey jcameron, where did batman get tech to stabilize his knee and allow him to kick through brick? That seems much more likely then non visible ear pieces........NOTTTTTT
DanteSparda - 2/5/2013, 5:15 PM
Let the trolls begin!!

I'm not here to bash any of the movies, just the message boards, seriously they are so full of trolls nowdays and the moderators don't do shit, some months ago they were baning everyone trolling, flooding and bashing, but right now it's like they don't exist anymore, those lazy morons.
shadearts - 2/5/2013, 5:25 PM
Check back with us in 14 weeks of TDKR release before any of you Nolanites start comparing figures between the Avengers because most movies do there sale right after there week release and then drop substantially
Squish - 2/5/2013, 5:27 PM
Dante it's more than trolling. It's complete incompetence. Bunch of losers sitting in Mommy and Daddies basement (for some obviously no fathers stuck around) begging for attention.
batman1216 - 2/5/2013, 5:30 PM
I don't quite understand what The Avengers fans are celebrating about. In 4 weeks TDKR isn't that far behind The Avengers in 14. Why don't we all just wait and see when all is said and done. If TDKR does beat The Avengers in home video sales though, this doers prvoe that the Colorado shootings and 3D ticket prices di have an effect on TDKR ticket sales in theaters. Either way I am very happy with the success of TDKR whether it beats Avengers or not. Best comic book movie trilogy of all time. No contest.
