Rounding out today's Marvel Studios news splurge from Kevin Feige is an update on Ant-Man, Daredevil, Punisher and Blade. First, the quotes on Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. Said Feige, acknowledging the long wait for Ant-Man, which was at one time meant to be released after the first Iron Man film, “Frankly, now we have to re-write it to put it a little bit more into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] because it was written before it existed. We’ve talked about various names [to play the lead] over the past eight years but as you can imagine they keep changing as time goes by. But towards the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script, which is great and which is very Edgar. He has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one."

The conversation turns to characters that have recently returned to the Marvel fold, like Daredevil,Punisher, Blade and....Ghost Rider?!!!! Said Feige, “Whenever a character comes back to us, it's usually because the other studios don't want to make the movies anymore - and that usually means the [previous] movies may not have been particularly well received. They all have potential, but we're not going to say, 'We got it back - make it!'" The report from Entertainment Weekly goes on to state that Marvel Studios has not mapped out its full Phase 3 slate yet but they're gravitating towards heroes that haven't received stand-alone features yet.

Update: I've reached out to EW and they've reaffirmed that Feige confirmed Ghost Rider is back at Marvel Studios.

Jollem - 5/2/2013, 9:03 AM

Wait, he talks about The Punisher & Blade?!
thunderforce - 5/2/2013, 9:10 AM
Wait when did Marvel get back the rights to Ghost Rider ?
thunderforce - 5/2/2013, 9:12 AM
All the returning rights are all in the Marvel Knights lol is that just a coincidence ?
KeeperoftheKrackle - 5/2/2013, 9:16 AM
They should do a second MCU. A Marvel Knights cinema imprint. Use the second tier and street level characters, make lower budget movies more focused on crime fighting and less superheroing. Just a thought but that have the rights to most of the proper characters for it. DD, Punisher, Blade, then use Moonknight, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight... so many more.
superotherside - 5/2/2013, 9:17 AM
Hmmm... I can understand them not just going ahead and saying, "Ok, we got it back. Make it right now!" I'm wondering though if they did get Spider-man, FF, or X-men back would they make films for them? Or would they put them on hold?
dellamorte1872 - 5/2/2013, 9:18 AM
a Marvel knights shared universe just like the avengers shared universe sounds awesome
xcrementus - 5/2/2013, 9:18 AM
It's taken this long to write and re-write cus Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish have been crazy busy. While Marvel Studios figure out their timeline in a concrete fashion, they're making and writing other films which mean a lot to them.

It looks like the stars finally align. Can't wait. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim are all in my top 10 films.
Comedian666 - 5/2/2013, 9:19 AM
That's awesome. Imagine a Marvel Knights movie based on the comic series with Punisher, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, and Blade. A new street level team that has to confront a supernatural threat. I think that would be awesome. Combine the Knights stuff and the Midnight Sons stuff and and you could even tie it into the rest of the MU after Dr. Strange as he assembles the team to go after the Darkhold.
xcrementus - 5/2/2013, 9:20 AM
@superotherside, if Spidey/XMen/F4 rights did revert back, they'd have years to plan and fold it into their universe.

They knew Daredevil & Blade were headed back, they're just letting them cool off after people's bad memories fade a little more.

I actually still don't believe Ant-man will happen. It started pre-production the same time as Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, ya know? I'm sure Wright wants to make it, but he keeps finding other things he wants to make more. I don't blame him, but still...if they wanna make this, it's probably time to think about another director.

Also, if it DOES come out, Ant-Man is Phase 3. Avengers 2 is the end of Phase 2.
ATrueHero1987 - 5/2/2013, 9:28 AM
Ahhh shit! GR is back with Marvel?! Yes! Whenever they decide to do GR again, they should do the Dan Ketch storyline. It'll probably be years though because of that awful GR: SOV.
Jollem - 5/2/2013, 9:30 AM
sov > iron man trilogy
LucasMend - 5/2/2013, 9:36 AM
"Is very Edgar" Damnnn that's good to hear. Edgar Wright is fantastic.
I hope Ewan Mcgregor get's Pym role. And it would be nice to have a Simon Pegg cameo!

Johnny Blaze rides again.
LucasMend - 5/2/2013, 9:37 AM
superotherside after iron man and avengers, x-men and spider-man are two of the most known comic book franchises, so I'd say at least both of them would be very important to marvel. FF they would hold a while, but is still very important because of Richards influence on Marvel universe.
DrDoom - 5/2/2013, 9:43 AM
@MarvelPsycho

Exactly. I bet Mephisto is going to be stuffed into the MCU sooner rather than later if Thanos is involved.
HouseSnow - 5/2/2013, 9:44 AM
Shit Movie
Jollem - 5/2/2013, 9:45 AM
@Nomis - just like they did tony stark and the mandarin "right", i'm sure :)
Spidey91 - 5/2/2013, 9:47 AM
Ghost Rider is pretty much back at MARVEL...lets be honest, 2 movies criticaly panned and the last one was a huge bomb, top it with Nicholas Cage as the main character and you have a property that nobody wants.
AlexanderLykins - 5/2/2013, 9:53 AM
All of this good news on the day of the premiere is making me more optimistic about Iron Man 3.
Jollem - 5/2/2013, 9:56 AM
@Noomins - even that garbage bane? :)

@Psycho - you are just too cute. i wanna pinch yer widdle cheeks
SaxoWolf - 5/2/2013, 9:56 AM

"Marvel Studios has not mapped out its full Phase 3 slate yet but that Marvel is looking to gravitate towards heroes that haven't received stand-alone features yet. "

This is cool. Spotlight some other guys, and have the big three (Iron Man, Cap and Thor) return for Avengers movies. That would be [frick]ing awesome.
JoeMomma29 - 5/2/2013, 9:57 AM
Are we sure Ghost Rider is back with Marvel? I really hope it is, yeah I would love to see Wasp in the next Avengers movie!
Shamo - 5/2/2013, 9:58 AM
Incredibly true to the comics? after IM3 that will be a refreshing change of pace. looking forward to this. also, good to hear Ghost Rider's back as well because those movies were god awful.
BuzzKiller - 5/2/2013, 9:59 AM
Hopefully F4 never gets off the ground this year and the rights will revert. Then maybe we will get a Civil War storyline at the end of Phase 3!
goldwincs - 5/2/2013, 10:00 AM
@White Man! you have no idea how long i've been thinking that Mary Elizabeth Winstead would be perfect for Wasp.

Make It Happen MCU!!
DaenerysTargaryen - 5/2/2013, 10:02 AM
Ghost rider is back?

*cue the "Jensen Ackles should play him" fan casts*

:P
Ramiel - 5/2/2013, 10:02 AM
Mary Winstead for Wasp would be awesome! And they definitely should make a Marvel Knights movie. If DC is planning a JL Dark movie, then Marvel should plan a Marvel Knights movie.
GodzillaKart - 5/2/2013, 10:02 AM
I would love to see a series of more down to earth characters in Marvel films. Daredevil and Punisher in one film? Bring it!
Shamo - 5/2/2013, 10:04 AM
@TheREal, huh? all i said was i'm looking forward to Antman and am glad to see Sony no longer involved with Ghost Rider.
KINGPEN266 - 5/2/2013, 10:04 AM
RYAN PHILLIPPE FOR ANTMAN NOW!!! MARVEL MAKE IT HAPPEN!
PC04 - 5/2/2013, 10:14 AM
PSYCHED! Marvel, these should be your Rated 'R' films.

LFANCH - 5/2/2013, 10:14 AM
It's cool if they can put mephisto in there when infinite gauntlet roles around, however I think loki would work well in that role too.
punisherX - 5/2/2013, 10:17 AM
Marvel Knights!!
Jollem - 5/2/2013, 10:20 AM
