ANIME: 'INITIAL D' Manga To End After 18 Years As New Anime Film Looms
The final adventures of street racer Takumi Fujiwara are set to begin in the final manga volume of "Initial D" this month which will also be adapted into a final anime series titled "Initial D: The Final Stage." Surely a bit of sad news for longtime fans.
Before Vin Diesel's "Fast & Furious" franchise, there was "Initial D." Our Japanese brethren have been drifting long before Dominic Toretto ever flipped the switch on his first nitro boost. Both car franchises are known for adrenaline induced testosterone visuals but sadly, one is coming to an end next week. Shuichi Shigeno's manga will end on July 19th after 46 manga volumes, 4 anime series, 2 OVAs, 3 animated films, 9 video games, and 1 live-action film. The story follows Japanese teen Takumi Fujiwara and his Eight-Six (Toyota Sprinter AE86 Trueno) as he enters the world of illegal street racing and eventually move into professional racing. The manga's final volume will be adapted into a new anime series titled "Initial D: The Final Stage" which currently has an undisclosed release date. Next summer a new anime film will also be released titled "New Initial D: The Movie."
