EDITORIAL: Did Yesterday's AVENGERS Teaser Finally Reveal The Mysterious Aliens?

Take a look at theory number 452 on just who Loki's mysterious "Alien" accomplices in the upcoming Avengers film may turn out to be.

For over a year now speculation concerning the identity of the mysterious aliens in the upcoming Avengers film has run rampant. However, every time a theory starts to gain some sort of credence, some new bit of information surfaces that discounts our current train of thought on the subject. The Kree and the Skrulls have been shot down as Loki's misguided cohorts on a number of occasions.

Set photo's have shown men in mo-cap suits wielding strange sword and lance type weapons that seemingly fail to fit in with any of the known Marvel alien races weapons of choice. There have been unconfirmed reports from people claiming to have seen film footage that indicate the aliens differ in appearance from each other and wear strange armor. Again, head scratching time.

It's well known that Loki makes some sort of shady deal with an unknown being or beings after his fall from grace and flight from Asgard at the end of THOR. It's also well known that Marvel has plans for an expansion if you will, of their "Cosmic Universe" and a film featuring The Inhumans in the future. With it's split second THOR cameo and display at last years Comic Con, the appearance of the Infinity Gauntlet has led many to believe that Thanos and his motley army would be that guy. The Thanos theory has always sounded "off" to me for one simple reason. What would Loki promise Thanos in return for his help? The Infinity Gauntlet that sits in Odin's vault? From what we've seen and heard about The Avengers, Loki obtains possession of the Cosmic cube. The Cube is undeniably an extremely powerful weapon but in the Marvel Universe it doesn't come close to matching the Infinity Gauntlet, which makes it's wearer virtually omnipotent. Why would Loki promise the most powerful weapon existing in that universe to Thanos in exchange for one that doesn't compare? As much as I would love to see Thanos in the film and down the line, he doesn't seem to fit.

There is however, a being and a race created by said being, that does seem to fit everything we have seen or heard about this film. The High Evolutionary and his "New Men" or "Knights of Wundagore" (who are not aliens/differ greatly in appearance from each other/utilize unusual armor and strange sword and spear like weapons) seem to fit the news, rumors and speculation we've all read about over the course of the last year. He is an incredibly powerful individual who has been at odds with The Avengers (as well as almost every other Marvel hero) many times over the years. He has strong ties to most of Marvels "cosmic" characters (especially Warlock and The Inhumans). He has been in possession of the Infinity gems (he is the being who originally gave Warlock the Soul Gem). He has clashed with THOR many times (this could explain the existence of The Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's vault).

Now we get to the thing that placed me on this train of thought. As I stated earlier, there have been reports that the aliens in the film differed in appearance from each other and wear strange armor to go along with photo's that show them using swords and spear like weapons. Yesterday, we finally got our first look at these aliens using some sort of flying cycles. That is where the connection came in and everything else seemed to fit. The High Evolutionary's self created army, "The New Men" or "Knights of Wundagore" ride Atomic Steeds that seem to be an identical match for the flying crafts we viewed in yesterday's teaser.

Now remember, this is not "NEWS", only a theory and more than likely, I'm wrong on this BUT all the pieces seem to fit for this bad boy and his personal army to be the mysterious villain we've speculated so much about. If you're not familiar with The High Evolutionary, do some research and you may be surprised to find him lurking behind, observing, having a hand in or otherwise connected, to almost every single significant event (cosmic or otherwise) in the Marvel Universe. As always, voice your opinion below.

Great theory... I don't know much about him, but he's not an Alien, right? and if there's one thing everyone has said is that the army will be made up of Aliens.
NickKaseAKAthePieEATERxGETIT - 2/1/2012, 7:10 AM
Woah I think you just solved the mystery
ThaMessenger07 - 2/1/2012, 7:28 AM
I doubt it, but I hope so. I would love to See HIM/Warlock...

dbperez54 - 2/1/2012, 7:32 AM
The new knights or men of wundagore. Wait last time I checked wundagore is on earth and that they were not aliens. But then again you could be right cause it does fit with everything else and including the new mexico shooting!
Gusto - 2/1/2012, 7:33 AM
The aliens are all Venom. Thorverine told me so!
TheGreenRanger - 2/1/2012, 7:33 AM
I have no clue what the hell this is getting at. I thought the villain was going to be "EPIC". Not "Who the hell is this guy in the Marvel Universe". Recognition is lacking in my opinion.
capMO - 2/1/2012, 7:34 AM
hmm, good theory indeed, though I would consider it an odd choice for "big-time-villain" in a Avengers movie.. I can definately see your point in thinking it would be like this, but god, I hope you're wrong :)
dbperez54 - 2/1/2012, 7:35 AM
You kind of have a point "I think"
Cheesehead - 2/1/2012, 7:36 AM
That's a great theory and that would be pretty sweet I must say. No one, and I mean NO ONE, has said that so far. Iike it.
marvel72 - 2/1/2012, 7:37 AM
its possible i've got them avengers issues the knights of wundergore it has the scarlett witch on the cover & the avengers upside down.

i believe the avengers 186 & 187,it may even take moments from the high evolutionary war that went through the summer annuals of the late 80s about 88 or 89.
MassExecutions - 2/1/2012, 7:39 AM
Hawks knows his stuff.

If this is true, it could still tie to Thanos given his history with Warlock.

Maybe Loki would give Thanos the infinity gauntlet because it doesn't have the actual gems in it.

The only big reason I think this might not be right is because we've been given the impression that Loki found his army somewhere off in the other parts of the nine realms.
ThaMessenger07 - 2/1/2012, 7:39 AM
Scarlet Witch and Quick Silver were left there as infants so it's quite significant to the Avengers....but Wanda & Pietro are not in the film sooooo....yeah
ecksmanfan - 2/1/2012, 7:45 AM
Nice Hawks! Thinking outside the box with this one! Like GreenRanger said though, the recognition faction is a bit low on this one. But hey, they also left out Wasp and Ant-Man, so who knows what they have up their sleeve.
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 7:46 AM
Mass: Although these guys originated on Earth, they roam throughout space pretty regularly. Loki could have found them anywhere. Also, Loki found his allies somewhere off in the nine realms. That could simply mean "not in Asgard." Earth is a part of the nine realms.
dbperez54 - 2/1/2012, 7:47 AM
Wait everyone watch "The Avengers earths mightiest heroes episode 26 a day unlike anyother. The reason why I am saying this is because some of the other people from the nine realms ride similar space crafts.
Cheesehead - 2/1/2012, 7:48 AM
Yeah, him being human and being from Earth doesn't add up for aliens, but these movies will tweak origins as we all know. Should be interesting to see what happens.
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 7:49 AM
ecks: The recognition factor to who? Us? Almost everyone reading this would go see this movie if they were fighting Th Mole Man.

The general public knows as much about The High Evolutionary as they do about Thanos. Like Mass said, they could use him to usher Thanos in somewhere in the future.
AvatarIII - 2/1/2012, 7:50 AM
Alien /= Space alien

alien just means "not from here" they could easily use the Knights and not be lying about them being aliens. or they could just be lying.
MassExecutions - 2/1/2012, 7:55 AM
@Hawksblueyes - Yeah, they've been around. I guess I'm just thinking about their comic book origin. They were introduced in Thor, weren't they? He found them at Wundagore on earth, right?

So, if it the High Evolutionary, who should play him? He's got that "clinical" detachment thing going, so maybe....voiced by Kevin Spacey? Hmmmm...
HelaGood - 2/1/2012, 8:10 AM
i think Hawks is on to something. ;)

Durango95 - 2/1/2012, 8:11 AM
If Kevin Spacey voices anybody in it, that automatically puts this movie in the toilet to me.
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 8:12 AM

All three of my computers hate whatever script your new ads are running. And thus, I hate your ads. At least they aren't cussing me out anymore. That was fun.
karloshuddos - 2/1/2012, 8:14 AM
I'm pretty sure the person on the first craft is Loki, he wears a green cape and has the horn helmet on.
HelaGood - 2/1/2012, 8:17 AM
i confirm @karloshuddos's comment
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 8:19 AM
karloshuddos: That is Loki on the first craft.

tea: You said porksword. ;P
patriautism - 2/1/2012, 8:20 AM
REALLY great find Hawks!
MassExecutions - 2/1/2012, 8:27 AM
@LastGasp - What? You didn't like Moon? Seven?
selinakyle - 2/1/2012, 8:34 AM
i didn't see anything worthwhile in that 17 second teaser for a teaser.
SuperFrost - 2/1/2012, 8:39 AM
CAn't wait!
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 8:42 AM
selinakyle: Long time, no see!
CraptainAmerica - 2/1/2012, 8:46 AM
I liked the thought of the Badoon (given links to Guradians Of The Galaxy and one members to Thanos). But I guess all could be linked.

I still think it will be the Kree. The race offers great direction for more characters (Ms. Marvel & Captain Mahr Vehl).

But Feige did say that the race in particular weren't integral to the future of the MCU. That they weren't "...setting up the Kree-Skrull war..." .

I love this sort of theorising. Real knowledgable detective work.

Right or wrong, great read, great post.
thalidomide - 2/1/2012, 8:47 AM
It's a bunch of Spidey wannabes making an unnecessary cameos
Loki9876 - 2/1/2012, 9:11 AM
it's actually a pretty good theory if you look closely on the bikes you can see men with some armor and they have flying bikes. I would like it if it's true. High evolutionary is a very strong and pretty cool guy.
mstaley3000 - 2/1/2012, 9:13 AM
What? No mention of Counter Earth? I don't believe this theory is correct but I will point out to those who don't think the Knights would be considered alien, perhaps the story takes place after the High Evolutionary created Counter Earth and set up shop there.
MassExecutions - 2/1/2012, 9:23 AM
@mstaley3000 - yeah, I was thinking about that, but what a can of worms that would open!
selinakyle - 2/1/2012, 9:24 AM
Hey Handsome!
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 9:25 AM
mstaley3000: They were created here on Earth. The only reason I stated that they are not really aliens is because that coincides with Fiege indicating recently that they may not be "aliens" after all.
sexfoodcomics - 2/1/2012, 9:25 AM
I'm still thinking annihilation wave. Especially since Fiegi said they want to try to do a Guardians of The Galaxy movie.
Lert - 2/1/2012, 9:40 AM
still gay!
HelaGood - 2/1/2012, 9:55 AM
< still laughing!!!
JackBauer - 2/1/2012, 10:01 AM
Great idea Hawks. I think you're right, especially with the resemblance of those sky cycles.

Everyone who doesn't know who the High Evolutionary is should read The Evolutionary War comics.
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 10:17 AM
OMG! You had to bring up the lamb again! Didn't you!?
TheGreenRanger - 2/1/2012, 10:21 AM
@teabag-

You just made my day. Will you be my rainbow ranger?
mctrinket - 2/1/2012, 10:28 AM
I think this hypothesis is correct. High Evolutionary would be a great Big Bad for the Avengers flick.
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 10:35 AM
Trudy: If you had any idea how many sleepless nights I spent worrying about my poor little lamb since tea maliciously took her from me, you wouldn't even begin to make with the mirth.
beetheb - 2/1/2012, 10:41 AM
The "aliens" are not the Knights of f*cking Wundagore, what a retarded theory. I've been reading Marvel comics for twenty years and I BARELY know who the Knights of Wundagore are, why in God's name would Marvel base the biggest CBM ever around such an obscure and, frankly, lame villain?

THINK, MCFLY!! THINK!!
JackBauer - 2/1/2012, 10:46 AM
JackBauer - 2/1/2012, 10:49 AM
I have a feeling Marvel is finally going to reveal the "alien army" this Sunday.
Hawksblueyes - 2/1/2012, 10:53 AM
tea: I'm sure that sheep has been traumatized past it's breaking point by now.

beetheb: Did I somehow offend you or do you talk like an imbecile at all times? If you've been reading Marvel comics for 20 years and barely know who this article is talking about, maybe you expand on the titles you read.
