TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 8/7/2010, 1:07 AM
@Wagner U tell me, we were suppose to get it months ago. lol Weeks I guess but u get it!
Tobuttica - 8/7/2010, 1:14 AM
The thing is, every shot with the GLs are going to have to go into post to add the FX so it's going to take some crazy amount of time to finish this movie. I'd see a teaser coming out with Harry Potter in November, and the full-on trailer with the Superbowl. Hopefully I'm wrong and we get it sooner, but I don' think so. Maybe the full trailer with HP and a teaser that gives us nothing before that.

Awesome sauce. I look forward to seeing a trailer sometime soon. I hope it's a great film and successful enough for WB/DC to go balls to the wall in getting The Flash on the fast track.
The fact they haven't even given Barry/Wally a 12 minute showcase on the back of their many, many Batman features is just [frick]ed up. Lord knows he's well over due for an animated adventure of his own.

Anyway, back to GL, I'm still not sold on Blake Lively. I don't think she'll do the role justice. I think her performance will sully the overall experience of GL. I don't think it'd be bad enough to sink the film but rather she'll most likely end up being one of things you'd change/tweak to make the film a bit better.

@WeaponX—i tend to agree... i've been defending the lively casting pretty consistently on this site... because the haters tend to hate hard. but when you put it the way YOU did, you're probably right. i'm not saying she's bad, because she's not... i've watched her stuff since hearing the casting, and i think she has the talent to pull it off. but since she's so young it's hard to imagine her elevating the role to a "great performance."

the problem is, i'm not sure who could do it better. acting ability is subjective once you reach a certain level. she's no bergman or streep or blanchett or bonham carter, or even a winslet or foster, because she's a kid. but neither is natalie portman or (ugh) liv tyler or kirsten dunst. portman is surely the "best" of those, but she's only as good as the movie she's in. she's not going to be "better" in thor than lively is in GL.

and neither of them can hold a candle to jennifer connelly, and look how much people loved her CBM! nuanced, hamartia-driven characterizations like connelly's betty ross get lost in the thunder of superhero dramas. or say, rachel weisz ... she's incredible in agora, but i'm pretty sure blake lively could've handled the mummy.

anyway, i agree with you but only to a point—i'd rather have someone else for the part... but i'd also rather have david niven for sinestro, paul newman for hal, and orson welles for hector hammond. i think for the movie they're making here, blake lively will be just fine. maybe eva green would have been a slightly better pick, maybe not. keri russell turned out to have a tv conflict, i think, so that was that. and i'm glad as HELL it isn't jennifer garner.

oh come on you guys saw the promo shot there's no reason she can't pass for 26 or 27. you're still thinking of her as the gossip girl chick but on that show she's PLAYING a character that's actually several years YOUNGER than her actual age. besides lol she's only three years younger than scarlett... he's 9 years older than his wife and 12 years older than blake. and MY new girl is... well never mind that. so whatever.

i know you're not fans of her casting and i'm not trying to argue [anymore]... i just think the AGE factor is... a NON-factor.
RedDevil - 8/7/2010, 10:59 AM
Awesome I can't wait for this baby! Great stuff JLU513!
bigbgl - 8/7/2010, 11:01 AM
who cares about lively. it's the green lantern movie not the carol ferris movie.
everyone should be more concerned about more important things...

LIKE WHEN ARE WE GONNA SEE THAT DAMN TRAILER?!?!?!
Angelus - 8/7/2010, 11:16 AM
Bigbgl is right... WHERE IS THE TRAILER!?!?!?!?
I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT SUMMER!!!!

BMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Upupandaway - 8/7/2010, 11:22 AM
@bigbgl- Carol Ferris plays a big role in Hal's story, so I think it counts as an important thing.

I'm just at a wait and see attitude with this film. I'm not seeing anything horrible or anything super great either. I can't wait for footage to get seriously hyped.
AlternateNo4 - 8/7/2010, 11:26 AM
good point bigbgl. BUT it actually IS kind of a big deal when you think about the next movie! i do actually think she looks a lot like star sapphire in some pics... like below.

and although i try to be one of the ones that holds back in the discussion about women's... attributes, i have to say that i think lively's impressive, um, lift... i mean the vertical orientation of her... upper parts... make her the only one of the candidates that could pull off this insanely slutty costume.

Magicfingers - 8/7/2010, 11:58 AM
Oooooh Yeah!!!
(Said in my best Kool-Aid Man Voice)
bigbgl - 8/7/2010, 12:52 PM
true @AlternateNo4 but you know what? ryan looks young for hal's character also. and if you think about it, it really doesn't matter. i'm was just happy they actually even made a movie for green lantern in the first place since i've been waiting for it for about 13 years. and the fact that it really looks like it's gonna be awesome is a sweet plus!
AlternateNo4 - 8/7/2010, 1:12 PM
@bigbgl—exactly, man... i think all gl fans are on the same page. i was just sayin the other day that this whole thing is such a rush since i thought we'd see bat3 AND man of steel, and then flash and wonder woman all before we EVER had a shot at a GL movie. the fact that it's so thorough and so faithful is a HUGE plus after the jack black heart attack i had in 08.

and i really DO want to see blake in that uniform lol... i just don't know if they can make that collar work on screen :)
theangrytroll - 8/7/2010, 2:25 PM
Lookin' forward to this movie. Can't wait to see the trailer.
DasBoot - 8/7/2010, 3:34 PM
AlternateNo4 @ Are you saying that Portman won't be better because of the character she's portraying and the material she has to work with, or because of her acting ability? Out of the 10 actresses you picked, 6 were Oscar winners including Portman. I have no idea how good of an actress Lively is, but I'd have to say if the characters and material are equal in substance than Portman will pull off a much better performance than her. Maybe I'm just confused about your point though
rodsvilaca - 8/7/2010, 3:34 PM
If someone could find Ivan Reis email address I certainly could convince him to tell some secrets from GL movie filming.
AlternateNo4 - 8/7/2010, 4:32 PM
@puck—no, i don't think you're confused. i think you understood... but i don't think you agree! i'm saying that thor is thor, not "closer." i don't think it's going to be bad... in fact i think it'll be great. but it will be great for what it is, and i'm sorry but while i think it'll be an awesome CBM i don't think it will attain the artistic level of great cinema. nor, do i think, will "green lantern," and that's my point.

the arc and motivation of a character is what creates the opportunity for a stellar performance, and i'm predicting that the scope of the jane foster character isn't going to be bigger or more interesting than the carol ferris character. and i don't think either of them is going to be the type of rich, full-arced, well-rounded role portman had in "closer," "brothers," or even "v for vendetta."

i personally don't believe that "a great actress makes every role great"... streep didn't win an oscar for "death becomes her," and portman didn't win any awards for "mars attacks" or "star wars." and while i'm sure both foster and ferris will be better characters than those, they'll still be CBM roles. i think that even if portman is "better," it won't show—i think lively will do everything the role requires, and i don't think portman will be "better" because i don't think the role will give her the chance.

i LOVE these movies and that's why i'm here, but they aren't shakespeare. in MY personal opinion. :)
AlternateNo4 - 8/7/2010, 4:44 PM
@puck—i'll add this... (i don't say this to be obnoxious or anything, but i figure you'd want to know)... i think portman deserved an oscar for "closer" (she did win the golden globe that year) and i think she should have been nominated for "V for vendetta," too, but she never actually won. don't think i'm picking on her... i think she's awesome... and correct me if i'm wrong... but i'm 99% sure she never won an oscar.
DasBoot - 8/7/2010, 4:56 PM
AlternateNo4 @ Well sir I'd have to agree lol. Probably more so for Portman's character. As far as I know, Jane Foster isn't going to be the type of character that can really go anywhere in terms of depth. She'll be useful in getting Thor to explain things so the average movie watcher isn't confused, but that's probably about it. But I definitely agree that a great actor can only give a great performance if they have a role that allows for it. I guess not every roll in a CBM can be Joker in TDK...
JLU51306 - 8/7/2010, 5:23 PM
I just hope we get the trailer soon!
WeaponX - 8/7/2010, 5:39 PM
@AlternateNo4 - She is tough to cast (Star Sapphire) and it was most probably due to the production on a tight time table that they may have picked the best from a rushed line-up. I too can't really think of a suitable alternative at the moment. But I don't think Lively was the choice to go with.
I do, however, think an actress like Portman can go above the material. She just needs to believe in the director and the material for her to go beyond the material itself. Films like "Leon", "V for Vendetta", "Garden State" etc. she tends to pull it out 'cause she digs the material and who she's working with. Then there is those piss poor "Star Wars" films that she had phoned in her performance due to a poor script with shit dialogue and craptacular Lucas directing her.
With "Thor", she seems to genuinely dig the material and really enjoy working under Branagh and I think we can expect a solid performance from her because of that. I can't say the same for Lively, she seems pushed into the deep end with the material and a bit overwhelmed with it all because of it. It may be too much for her to wrap her head around her character and give it justice.
claybo4131 - 8/7/2010, 6:04 PM
@alternate Natalie Portman has never won an Oscar that is correct

@Weapon email me and I will explain the casting thing this is my yahoo email, my screenname on here
DDD - 8/7/2010, 8:09 PM
I believe this is gonna be phenomenal
irregardless how people feel about Blake
Lively! I think this will be such an
excellent production that one actress in
it will not bring it down!

With the amazing cast in this movie I think
Blake will rise to meet them! They can only
help in her performance!

I still sure wish Ryan was doing The Flash
instead! Oh, well, water wa-a-ay under the
bridge!
DDD - 8/7/2010, 8:12 PM
With all the great and noble things Ryan has
been doing connected to this film he is now
my hero! What a class act he is!!!

Can't wait for the trailer and the movie!
I'm mainly a Marvel man but I've always loved
GL and Batman!

ON WITH THE SHOW!!!!!!!!
AlternateNo4 - 8/7/2010, 8:36 PM

AsianAvenger - 8/7/2010, 9:40 PM
Now all we can do is wait for THIS EPIC MOVIE!!!! I can't wait though lol, show it to me now!!!
claybo4131 - 8/8/2010, 7:05 AM
I keep seeing people asking when the trailer is coming out. People listen to me and when you realize I am and will be right, you wont call me an idiot.

The trailer more than likely will come out when Harry Potter comes out (or a few days before). WHY you ask, well Harry Potter is from WB, and people will go see Harry Potter, and the studio will say "Oh lets show our other big summer blockbuster trailer before Harry Potter" so A LOT of people who are not familiar with Green Lantern will see the trailer. Studios do this planning ALL THE TIME. I bet when TRON comes out, the first PIRATES trailer comes out. Studios do this ALL THE TIME with anticipated blockbusters.

Also, I highly doubt you will find the Comic-COn trailer due to the fact it was watermarked. @pietro said that they more than likely used an infrared camera close to or behind the screen, what that does is it blacks out the footage on a camera. You cant see the infrared with the naked eye, I am sure WB did this cause of the bootlegs of Iron Man 2 and *shudders* New Moon last year.

It looks like you will have to wait till November to see the trailer for Green Lantern. Again I may be wrong, but if I was a betting man, I would bet on that
