When I got to my midnight showing my wife and nephew laughed that we were the only ones there, but then people just started piling in! In a few minutes the place was freakin packed and we were sitting next to fat dudes and kids etc, bizzare for a midnite showing-usually you get college kids. Anyways, great movie, I loved it more than the others this year.

I saw it last night, and to be frank, it was good but far from great. There were many errors in pacing with how the plot was written, not to mention character development was barely in sight. The action wasn't all that, either. All in all, it was a good movie, but as I say -- NOT GREAT.

Not a full house at our midnight screening. Theatre was probably 3/4 full. I enjoyed the movie but it's definitely far from perfect. Thor will go down as my favorite CBM this year.

The crowd (myself included) lost its' mind when The Avengers trailer played.

This just shows that the general audience wont get tired of comicbook movies, as long as the story is good they will continue to sell!

A good start, but again that just shows that it had the most die-hard fans. Green Lantern had the biggest midnight opening of the comic films before that, and we know how that went. Personally, I think Cap will continue to exceed expectations at the box office. I went to the early-bird showing, and while it was far from packed it was more attended than the one for Thor (not surprising, now that school is out.) it was also filled with a wider variety of people, from a kid not more than six to a pair of elderly ladies with walkers.

Personally, I really liked it. I loved the first half, but have to admit that the second lost some needed focus. Some mission objectives would have helped. Every one seemed to be "let's kick in the doors and shoot everyone and every thing!" Kind of hard to get invested in the progress of that kind of action.

I also think that it has a decent chance of winning the weekend. People are way-overestimating how much Harry Potter will make this weekend, in my opinion. Potter made that huge amount on midnight screenings... Take that out, and every other day of release has been well behind the Dark Knight's daily box office. TDK only managed $75m for it's second week, and it was making around $6m more than Harry Potter per day leading up to that.

In short, if Cap can match Thor, there's a very good chance he'll win the weekend, IMO.

@Chewtoy - Green Lantern didn't have a bigger midnight opening than X-Men First Class this year and only did $100,000 more than Thor. GL flopped royally, X-men made half decent bucks and Thor still outperformed the lot of them both domestically and internationally!
