I think in some interview somewhere it was said the story was also said to be inspired by the Justice series where it was a group of villains who discover the Justice League's weaknesses from Batman's files. That will probably explain why these villains are in the movie.

Yeah, that's J'onn's brother. His "John Jones" nickname is "Malefic", but his Martian name is Ma'alefa'ak.

I have read every single issue that he has ever appeared in... which is maybe 12 max. He's known for mind-raping J'onn's wife, killing off the entire Green Martian race (except for a few stragglers), and resurfacing to finish the job. He kills John Jones' PI partner and frames him for it, frames J'onn for a whole mess of crazy experiments that he leads the Justice League into uncovering, and then proceeds to single-handedly fight the entire Justice League on the Watchtower.

J'onn saw it through however, and hurled his brother into the sun.

loved justice league crisis on two earths,its one of my top favorites along with green lantern first flight,I always love to see the league together.so im sure im gonna love this and already the stills are looking hot and awesome :)
