William Shatner Continues The STAR WARS Vs. STAR TREK Debate

William Shatner has posted a video response to Carrie Fisher, who gave her own video response to a video that Shatner did saying Star Trek was better than Star Wars, saying he can still fit in his costume and questions if she can fit in hers.

Here we go again....The Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate turns ugly at the hands of William Shatner. Posting a response to the video Carrie Fisher did a while back questioning Shatner's claims that Star Trek was better than Star Wars, Shatner takes a some pretty heavy jabs at Fisher. Shatner claims that he is all muscle and that he can still fit in his spandex costume, and that she would have a hard time fitting in her slave bikini from Return Of The Jedi. Thanks to Geek Tyrant for the below video.



The gloves seem to come off here with Shatner. It seems like he is either seriously upset with Fisher's response, or he could just be having a bit of fun with her. Regardless he seems to be hitting hard, especially with him saying her wearing a bikini now would, "Need some uplift". Sound off your comments on the feud in the comment boxes below.

Someone hasn't seen the original Star Wars trilogy, that was chockful of good storytelling. The prequels (other than Revenge Of The Sith) on the other hand...

The new Star Trek movies however are ok.

I'm sorry Star Trek to me is boring. I loved the movie, but everything else seemed a little too pretentious to me. I'll take the original Star Wars trilogy any day of the week over any Star Trek episode of movie.

Well, save for Return of the Jedi. The most overrated of the Star Wars movies. I liked the new Star Trek movie better than that.

They are both cool. Star Wars is an undeniable classic, but Star Trek just...lives on and on.

Again? Geez! Shatner is 1 funny mother f#cker though. Even the new STAR TREK can't step to the worst STAR WARS prequel. FOR REAL! STAR TREK is BORING! Just the other day after work I caught 1 of the TREKs starting on HBO. Since it was the beginning I decided to give it a try... It sucked ass. Definitely even the worst STAR WARS was way more entertaining than that.

To be fair though, STAR TREK is the future of STAR WARS in our Galaxy

FX cannot be compared, old Trek to any Star Wars, because the tech was superior for Star Wars, and it's movies to tv, budget wise, simply not open for comparison. So, if you throw out the FX, you are left with story, first, and acting. Also, can throw out the last 3 SW movies, you all know they sucked. so you're left with the original 3 SW against any Trek. If not for the first movie (IV, for the nerds), which is full of character and heroism, Trek beats SW every time. Empire (V), which I've seen others call the best of the original three, was technically superior but otherwise just a set up for the last (VI), which had the Ewoks... only surpassed by Jar Jar Binks as the worst thing about SW. For character and stories, Trek wins, almost every time. But...

Star Trek inspired a generation to dream of space... a dream we as a nation have failed to realize. Star Wars has brought us an industry that can now make movies about the comic book characters that inspired me as a child... if I can't fly to the moon, I can live with comic book movies to pass the time.

As for Shatner's response, hilarious, though he's engaged in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

Also to be fair, if there were no STAR TREK, there probably wouldn't have been a STAR WARS. Still doesn't make it better though. Its like comparing THE INCREDIBLES to FANTASTIC 4. Sure Incredibles was a better movie, but FANTASTIC 4 was the original.

STAR TREK is like watching 2 children play that old game BATTLE SHIP, not so much fun to watch.

This battle can go on for it its very much like Marvel vs DC

Personal I prefer Marvel and Star Wars to DC and Star Trek. Thats not to say the last two aren't as good, I mean I love Batman and I like the idea of Star Trek but was it a bit before its time (personal thoughts, maybe due to budget and production value).

@Nuck Touche. I recently watched the new Trek film again the other night, almost as good as the original Star Wars trilogy (if not better). Blows the older Trek out of the water.

How sad for Shatner and Fisher that their careers are now defined by this mindless debate. Didn't Shatner, while hosting Saturday Night Live, once tell the Trekkers to move out of their parents' basements and get a life? Maybe he should review his own monologue.

This isn't even a debate. And Shatner is an idiot. I'm always gonna be more partial to Star Wars, but to compare the two is like comparing apples to oranges.

Im more of a starwars nut myself,liked the startrek ramakes and from what I heard,the show wasnt half bad for its time,I hope this doesnt turn into a sci fi fan war,DEAR GOD NOT ONE OF THOSE! And i believe BOTH had the perfect combination of effects AND story. Star trek had the best effects for its time. U cant compare the effects, cuase time line wise the tech avalable was so different. But id take watching Luke Han and Chewie fighting the empire over Vulcans any day of the week!

Star Trek is written ten billion times more intelligently than Star Wars, Star Wars is fun but written for people who stopped thinking constructively decades ago! The new Star Trek film was written on the back of a sheet of toilet paper, that's how intelligent that was!

Things I learned from being an original Star Wars fan from the 70's util they made that crap Return of the Jedi!

1: It doesn't matter how many millions you kill or cause the death of, if you save your son and kill the Emperor, all is forgiven!

2: If there is only one girl in the movie, chances are she's gonna be related to you so don't kiss her!

3: It doesn't matter how much an Imperial fleet outnumbers you in a battle, if you blow up the Death Star all their ships will disappear!

4: It doesn't matter how long you serve in the Rebel Alliance, you can make General overnight depending on who you know and what manoeuvres you've done in the past! You don't even have to have been awake for the last few months!

5: To become a most powerful Jedi capable of saving the entire galaxy without training for half your life is easy. Just start your training after you've turned 20, leave shortly after you've started. Get your ass kicked in a lightsaber fight (preferably loose a limb) and then come back a few months later when your master is sick.. he'll make you a Jedi every single time!

6: No matter how big they make planet destroying Space Stations, there will always be a hole big enough to fire a torpedo through, fly a ship through or fly an entire fleet through to destroy its from the centre. Its a design flaw they simply can help making! ..HELLO, ever heard of a door or a shield?

7: What's the difference between a Jedi and a Farmer? Farmer's may dress the same but they're far less lazy!

8: A protocol Droid and R2 unit are the most mass marketed constructions in the universe, they've lasted the test of time for over 30 years and were even being made as kits by small slaves!

9: Nothing in the world can cut down trees as quietly and set up traps over night as constructively as little Ewoks, they put elves to shame!

10: If you ever have to assassinate a senator in Star Wars, do not ever give the job to a Bounty Hunter! Because if he has a friend who's a shape-shifter he'll hand it over to them. And if that Shape-shifer has a droid then it'll hand the job over to it. And if the droid has two worms, it'll hand the job over to them and worms don;t know what the frak is going on in politics let alone the galaxy!

@FightmasterNoel - And It never got any better than that after George Lucas took complete control and decided to end the onging project to make 9 films because it was taking too long. instead he collapsed all his story in to Return of the Jedi and it was a merchandise driven spectacle full of contrived crap. Years later he will claim to have been waiting for FX to reach the levels so he can complete his story yet for 16 years he hadn't written any and set about filming each film a he did the last lot, by making it up as he went along! and hence the stupidest written scifi films of all time filled with the biggest visual spectacle. You honestly think Irvin Kershner's hard work on Empire delivering the quality that went into the movies classic scenes are enough to enamour all the crap Lucas has done with Star Wars ever since? Two good films out of six don't cut it!

Hahahahahahaha is incredible how sad the life of a fanboy is, look at us wasting time trying to figure which of the NON real universes is better, well that's life I guess. By the way If Shatner can fit in his costume I'm a 12 years old flying frog and that's not a classy answer any day specially to a lady. Well only if you are looking to attract publicity after your Non sci fy show got cancelled, no wonder why JJ Abrahams cant stand the idea of having the guy on his Star Trek Movies!!!

I'm pretty sure Denny Crane has never watched Star Wars, if he had he would know that the originals did have story, plot development and were not all SFX. (he's bang on about the prequels though) He gives a much better response than Carrie does though and I do agree with his analogy of Trek being a sun rise wars being a sunset...all in all though I couldn't decide which i love more, their both so great and different!

This is not even debatable... Star Wars cultural impact was on a epic scale Star Trek can't even possibly dream to reach

Lightsabers alone make Star Wars better

I remember growing up if you liked Star Trek you were an outcast and geek... people looked at you weird... Star Wars was much more main stream and the much better franchise

Unfortunately his dream will never come true. They closed the exhibit and restaurant at the Hilton on the strip. I did go to that, and I must say it was very entertaining. Still could never get on board with Star Trek until the new movie.

It's amazing to go back and watch Star Wars, which was great in my childhood, and realize that the acting and writing is not very good. Special effects and sound effects are fantastic. Maybe the best sound effects in movie history.

Star Trek is better for anyone who cares about smart writing and story.

Star Wars was only a cultural impact to those who wait in lines outside the theaters playing with lightsabers. Star Trek was a much bigger impact culturally and scientifically from Cat-scans to automatic doors at the grocery store and touch screens. Guys like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were even inspired by Star Trek Tech. Hell NASA named its first Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise because of the show. Not to mention the social impact that Star Trek had with its multi-ethnic crew and its message.
