Olivia Thirlby Talks DREDD

MTV caught up with Olivia Thirlby at this years Sundance Film Festival to talk about her role as Judge Anderson in Pete Travis' Dredd. Suprisingly enough she reveals that they wrapped filming over a year ago saying it has been a slow process putting the film together. She also talked about the challenges of shooting a film like Dredd saying she need to learn how to shoot a gun with out looking like a spaz.



On Shooting Dredd:

We were shooting that a year ago, its taking a long time. That's what I was blonde for. It was a really fun time. I feel like I've done it and had that experience. I did three action scifi movies and it's definitely very different from shooting a film like NOBODY WALKS. Its very very fun, very challenging, and very hard work. It's a whole different set of challenges because I had to learn how to shoot a gun and not look like a spaz, and make those kinds of things look believable.



On her research for the role of Judge Anderson:
"The script was really, really good. But I was playing a character that existed in the comics, and actually had her own spin-off, Judge Anderson. I looked at the comics a lot. She was drawn by a bunch of different people, as well as written by a bunch of different people. So, there's lots of different Andersons. There is some very sassy Andersons, and some very sad burdened Andrsons. Mostly I played her based on how I could relate to her and the wonderful script that Alex Garland wrote."


Dredd stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, and will be released on September 21, 2012.

Yeah, cos everyone's supposed to look clean, polished and buffed in an action film of course.

movie pics looks cool and the plot sounds good too so i really hope this delivers.

Olivia looks alot like Anderson in the movie pics. Great choice.

Too much talk on this!.... Just show us a Trailer already!!!! I'm a big Dredd fan, so im highly annoyed that the word on this is look bad.

I've read the script... google "peach trees script" if you want to read it! And it's a solid action movie.... So what on earth is going on with this production?

It's not out till the end of September that's what. Total Recall is out 2 months before it and its trailer hasn't been released yet either so it's not something strange.

@INSTANTJUSTICE I'm not shocked YOU took the raggedy ann comment personally. But she does look like she's wearing a crappy wigg.

I'm looking forward to this movie, I'm a big Karl Urban fan & was happy they casted him. I love the fact that this movie will be more dark & gritty than the last one.

Personally? When someone answers one of your comments it's personal? I think you've too high an idea about what you write and no one's out to shock you but I wouldn't really call your comment on one photo of her face -not photos- much of a point or criticism. It's more of a whine.

I've read the screenplay. I didn't like it much. I think it could make for a decent action film but I thought the storyline - kind of Die Hard meets Robocop 2 - too derivative. Put it another way... writer, Alex Garland, has zero imagination. When you consider how much stuff John Wagner put into Dredd each prog, well, Garland's screenplay is one dimensional and predictable.

@dreddhead123 Totally get your point of view.... However what went wrong in the first film was that they tried to cram everything in.

Alex Garland said he wanted to concentrate on one day in the life of a Judge.... Yeh it's Die Hard with a dash of Blade Runner. Either way the story may not be the best... But it's a solid action script.... And that's all I want a solid action movie.
