We last saw Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye at the end of the box office juggernaut The Avengers going his separate way from the team. While doing his press rounds for his latest movie, The Bourne Legacy, Renner talked with MTV about the character and his desire to play him again. He also said that at the moment he has no idea where the character will go or when he will play him again. He said Marvel are the puppeteers of the character and has no idea whats going on.

"It's a great character. There's a lot to explore there for me personally but I have no idea where they'll go with it. That's another sort of, [there are] puppeteers, they have their own ideas. I have no idea what's going on, people are probably more informed than I am of the reality of me being in another movie."

There were rumors floating around that Renner and Scarlett Johansson would be making an appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but based on what Renner just said it seems that is highly unlikely. You can Check out Jeremy in Marvel's The Avengers when it is released on blu-ray on September 25th later this year.

I approve CapFanLex005's comment

I would love for 2015 to have a Shield movie so we can explore the agents better. Hill, Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon....

Then also have Black Panther and Hulk 2 in 2015. :)
ksommer - 7/25/2012, 11:01 AM
@Grif you're a waste of time... Bazinga. :)
IgnurRant - 7/25/2012, 11:03 AM
Tragically underused and his cynicism was overshadowed by RDJ. As was everyone.
Gmoney84 - 7/25/2012, 11:14 AM
@Grif...you got a purty mouth.
Morpheus82 - 7/25/2012, 11:17 AM
He deserve his own movie after his performance in The Avengers and cameo role in Thor.
DarkGrifter - 7/25/2012, 11:22 AM
Easily my favourite character in The Avengers, hope they give him a solo movie; a Hawkeye and Black Widow movie would be equally awesome.
BartonIsHawkeye88 - 7/25/2012, 11:27 AM
I would die of extreme joy if we ever got a Hawkeye solo movie. I nearly pissed myself from his awesome presence in Avengers. so as long as he's in Avengers 2, and maybe a cameo somewhere else... A Hawkeye movie would be a dream come true. but who knows. Avengers already proves that dreams can come true.
BooYah - 7/25/2012, 11:28 AM
I'm hoping the Cap movie will sort of be like a S.H.I.E.L.D movie with Cap being the main character and then have Widow and Hawkeye side stories.
YOUNGBL00D - 7/25/2012, 11:29 AM
I would like to see expansion on his character, he worked fine as a badass shield agent who was good with a bow, but he never felt like he was a genuine superhero, I want to see him like he truly is in the comics, smart ass badass. And please give him an actual suit.
vtopa - 7/25/2012, 11:30 AM
Hawkeye needs to die in the next flick. That'll blow people away and give the Avengers something to galvanize them.

SHIT CHARACTER
Minotauro - 7/25/2012, 11:37 AM
If he actually looked like the character. Then his solo movie "might" be interesting. So much for the "characters not looking like the comics" debate.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 11:47 AM
$50 he or Widow dies in the next few movies.
JredTheRed - 7/25/2012, 11:56 AM
Damn I was hoping hed be in Cap 2
Ha1frican - 7/25/2012, 12:05 PM
Other than Chris evans and sebastian stan i dont think anything is set cast wise s he could still be in CA:TWS. I hope to see him, Black widow and at least Maria Hill if not Nick Fury
OdinsBeard - 7/25/2012, 12:11 PM
i would love to see a solo hawkeye movie after phase 2. SORT OF an "old-man hawkeye" type of deal. the earth now has super heroes and aliens and mutants and gigantic intergalactic wars and here's just one regular guy with no powers, a couple of arrows, and his bow. i think that would be cool.
OdinsBeard - 7/25/2012, 12:12 PM
he makes hawkeye more important by being jeremy renner playing hawkeye.
2Challa - 7/25/2012, 12:12 PM
People have been saying since the Coulsons death that people need to die in the MCU for it to have a real threat level. I think Hawkeye will be the one to bite the bullet before Avengers 2.
Dunejedi1 - 7/25/2012, 12:13 PM
Hawkeye has always been just a "meh" character for me. The most interesting thing about him is his ( old ) costume. I followed West Coast Avengers and Thunderbolts, and he's just not that interesting. He was fine in the 60's and 70's, because it was all new territory. But in the modern era the dude is just outdated. Let's see. . you have super-soldier, a genius/billionaire/inventor, and actual Norse God and . . a really accurate archer. That would be like putting a paint-ball champion in the Navy Seals and sending them into Afghanistan. Dude would get killed in minutes. They should jettison him and Black Widow from the films to make way for characters with actual personality/power sets. Just sayin'.
AlibiBreakfast - 7/25/2012, 12:14 PM
I'd like to see him in Cap 2 (and suspect he'll get a call to join production about 2 weeks before filming), but if we had to lose an Avenger to make room for Ant-Man in the sequel, I'd be ok with it being him or Black Widow.
TheOne20 - 7/25/2012, 12:26 PM
@Dunejedi1 - Personally I think having non-super heroes with above average skill sets adds to the realism of the avengers/marvel universe. Keeps the films more grounded and realistic. I think that the Falcon and Black Panther will also follow these guideline. Less superpowers... more above average skill sets.
lunesta - 7/25/2012, 12:38 PM
oh no god he was terrible as hawkeye hes not supposed to be a loner hes the asshole of the avengers he was just portrayed bad
DeathGambit - 7/25/2012, 1:00 PM
Give hawkeye a mask, so that people would see him as a hero instead of an agent with a bow. hell, if cap and ironman can cover their face, hawkeye could as well.
Finley - 7/25/2012, 1:15 PM
Hopefully he makes appearances in either of the next movies to get himself more out there. Didn't get a good enough background in Avengers.
SuperFrost - 7/25/2012, 1:21 PM
It would be nice if he made a solo Hawkeye movie, or he takes the place of Agent Colston in the other movies to mesh everyone together for Phase 2
lvcl - 7/25/2012, 1:30 PM
It should be nice a SHIELD movie (with Nick Fury, Valentina de Fontaine, Clay Quatermain, Maria Hill, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Spider-Woman, Mockingbird, Silver Sable) against HYDRA (Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, Madame Hydra and the Serpent Society)
lvcl - 7/25/2012, 1:49 PM
why not? they can make both of them
Fogs - 7/25/2012, 2:07 PM
I was gladly surprised by both him and Black Widow in Avengers.
TexasTwoFace - 7/25/2012, 2:08 PM
I definitely definitely definitely want to see a SHIELD movie. A Hawkeye solo film wouldn't be a high priority for me but I'd still love to see it.
Bark4Soul - 7/25/2012, 2:08 PM
I think all of phase 2 needs small cameos from a character here and there to keep this vibe going
soldier1 - 7/25/2012, 2:34 PM
my recommendation: A prequal movie with Hawkey and Black Widow!!!how they started in the game, how they met, and how they finally became members of shield!!
Hawkeye5790 - 7/25/2012, 3:27 PM
I love Hawkeye, make a solo movie happen. Renner is more like the Ultimate Hawkeye (attitude and costume). Hopefully in the future he becomes more of a smart ass.
TurtlesRAwesome - 7/25/2012, 3:59 PM
Hawkeye / Hulk team up flick: perfection. Both are better playing off of other characters.
thingrock4 - 7/25/2012, 4:12 PM
WHOEVER "GRIF" IS HE'S A 500 POUND PUSSY WHO LIVES IN HIS SINGLE PROSTITUTE MOTHER'S GARAGE. [frick] OFF DOUCHEBAG.
Hulk2008 - 7/25/2012, 4:13 PM
Yes! I would love to see and Agents of SHIELD Spinoff with Fury, Hill, Hawkeye Widow & Falcon.

Renner was so awesome as Hawkeye and love the Hawkeye/Hulk team-up!!

Black Panther, Hulk 2, SHIELD & Avengers for 2015!!!

thingrock4 - 7/25/2012, 4:34 PM
Hawkeye RULES!! Renner-AWSOME!
mgeoff88 - 7/25/2012, 7:21 PM
I was hoping we would get more of Hawkeye's story in The Avengers.

He was under Loki's control through half of the movie so his character wasn't as developed as everyone elses. I thought he was adapted very well in The Avengers.

I would really like to see a solo Hawkeye movie. It think it would awesome, if done right.
mgeoff88 - 7/25/2012, 7:31 PM
@ELgUaSoN What happens in Hungary, stays in Hungary. :P

I was hoping we would find out more about that too. Maybe someday we will. Whatever happened, I'm sure it had something to do with the incident at the hospital Black Widow was involved in.

If Marvel Studios does a Hawkeye spinoff movie, I wouldn't mind if it was an origin movie at all. They should make it similar to the 616 comics, where he is a career criminal, who is inspired to turn his life around by becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, after seeing news reports of Iron Man. I think that would be the prefect way to kick off his story in the MCineU.
ThePowerCosmic - 7/25/2012, 8:03 PM
Nothing new to learn here huh?
EarOne - 7/26/2012, 4:12 PM
i'd rather have a shield and a black panther movies than a guardians of galaxy and an ant-man movies.

for me the Pyms can either be introduced in the shield movie or cap 2, or even a black panther movie, while the GotG can come AFTER the end of phase 2.
EarOne - 7/26/2012, 4:14 PM
a shield movie can explore more about nick fury, black widow AND hawkeye..while we're at it, we cal also know more about maria hill and let's also introduce sharon carter, carol danvers, even daisy johnson...they can do sam wilson in the cap sequel.
jmsillustrator79 - 7/26/2012, 6:45 PM
Whether you are a fan of the archer or not (I'm guessing most of you are not) - you really don't get to know him, or care. Which is a shame because I personally like both the character and the actor. The fact that they are using elements from both the Avengers and the Ultimates opens up possibilities.

However, in the Avengers, Hawkeye is not so much as a character as he is a plot device. Even after the credits roll, the viewer still knows very little about him - only that he is an unparalleled expert marksman, a SHIELD agent, has a grudge against Loki and a deep history with the Black Widow.

There are many ways one can interpret Mr. Renner's composure in this and other interviews.

He may in fact be burnt out from doing these types of characters (action hero, sniper, spy, brooder etc.). Renner comes across as an actor who wants diversity and prefers a challenging role. In the beginning he may have been lead to believe that Hawkeye was going to have a rich colorful character, but instead found himself playing another version of what he's done in the past. That being said, I don't think he's going to jump on the idea of signing up to do another Marvel movie unless they give his character something more to do. And after all is said and done, it really all depends on how much Marvel is willing to invest in the character of Hawkeye - which in the foreseeable future does not seem likely.

The fact that he referred to Marvel as "puppeteers" may in fact support this, and suggest that he has some differences as to Marvel's direction in general. Renner comes across to me as a guy who tells it like it is.

Then again, he could just be playing his cards really close to the chest and won't try to divulge a whole lot of info. For all we know, he (and Scar-Jo) might've already signed on to do Captain America:WS and they are keeping it under wraps.

As for a SHIELD aspect, I believe that it does warrant its own movie (or two). Having a the element of SHIELD helps keep the MCU grounded in (relative) reality. Most if these agents are, for the most part, non-super powered human beings who utilize their skill sets and wits in order to stop the bad guys. Just like the original Iron Man that started it all, it has the potential to introduce more relatable characters into the MCU.

Anyways, that's just my two cents.

Funny, I thought he was the weakest link in an incredible movie.
