Fernando Meirelles recently sat down for an interview where he claimed that Jose Padilha was having a terrible time trying to get his vision of the Robocop reboot to light. Meirelles said that Padilha told him that for every ten ideas he has nine of them get cut by the studio. During and interview with a Brazilian newspaper, translated by Latino Review, Padilha refutes the claims that he is have a tough way to go on the film. “I have a script I’m happy with and I got the cast I have picked. The director of photography is Lula Carvalho, my editor is Daniel Rezende. I was even consulted for the selection of the producers,” said Pahilha. He also went on to say that you deal with problems during per-production with coolness and familiarity. With these rumors floating around, and his dodge the question types answers it wouldn't seem to rule out that there has been trouble for him while working on the film. It could just be a classic example of one of your friends shooting off at the mouth with you doing damage control, only time will tell.

Robocop will star Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish, Michael Keaton, and be released on August 9, 2013.

this will deliver, padilla also said that the movie will focus more on the transition from murphy to robocop, basically the operation from man to machine will be shown and explored not like in the original where you see the finished article after murhpy gets killed.
xXkryptoniteXx - 9/5/2012, 7:38 AM
If its going to suck we still have the original.
FlannelGuy26 - 9/5/2012, 7:41 AM
Cast alone is why I will see this. The original is timeless. Perfect as is...I don't know why we need a reboot..I mean, you guys know we'll probably get a Terminator Reboot sooner or later. It's just showing us Hollywood's true colors. They can't come up with anything fresh, just elaborate what has been done. Which is basically saying to the predecessor, "I can do this better than you did!" Even though, yes, Nolan did that and thank God he did hahah.

Don't get me wrong. I never wrote a thing in my life. And I am sure it's tough to come up with something fresh, hence we get crap like "Branded" in theaters...but I don't want my kids having a shelf of DVDs with 3 Supermans, Batmans, Robocops, etc etc...this is one flick I wish they didn't touch.
FlannelGuy26 - 9/5/2012, 7:44 AM
Maybe? No idea...the only thing they need to change about Robocop, is make him less clunkier...which is part of his charm in the original.

Some movies should never get re made, this is one of them.
Jaspion - 9/5/2012, 7:59 AM
With the success o Transformers and specially Iron Man of course they would want to make Robocop again with this new technology..
GoILL - 9/5/2012, 8:03 AM
Just watched all three of the original movies for the first time in years, couldn't even finish the third one.
Asterisk - 9/5/2012, 8:13 AM
Lol, August 9th, 2012? How'd I miss THAT?
GoILL - 9/5/2012, 8:14 AM
@monkeyballs3

LMAO, I could definitely see why after what I watched yesterday. I forgot just how shitty it was after not seeing it for almost twenty years.

It's rally misleading using fan concepts for an article about the feature film without pointing it out.

Hope it gets violent and strong like padilha's movies and not watered down.
Koonel - 9/5/2012, 8:50 AM
I loved the first Robocop and the second when I was a kid. After watching the first again recently, it doesn't hold up well. Cheesy dialog, bad acting, etc. Its staying power is the story behind it. But it really wasn't nearly as good as I remember. I have hopes that this will be a great update, but we'll see.
GUNSMITH - 9/5/2012, 9:20 AM
IT'S GOT A GREAT CAST, WILL IT BE GOOD? U KNOW IF I SEE WHAT ROBO WILL LOOK LIKE I'LL JUST KNOW IF IT WILL WORK.THAT AND MAYBE SEE SOME FOOTAGE TO GET THE FEEL OF WHAT THIS GUY IS SEEING ROBOCOP BEING, YEAH YOU CANT DO IT THE SAME BUT THEN WHAT IS IT THAT HE'S GOING FOR AND WILL IT WORK...LET'S SEE WHAT COMES UP.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/5/2012, 9:22 AM
Got nothin to say about this movie. Can't see it being successful
DCjohnny - 9/5/2012, 9:30 AM

PapaMidnight - 9/5/2012, 9:32 AM
@Fogs, i'm with you!
Well, that is good news, i guess. Usually i hate reboots, but i'm cheering for my fellow countryman Padilha.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/5/2012, 9:35 AM
@dcjohnny
It is just concept art. May not look like that in the film
DCjohnny - 9/5/2012, 9:49 AM
@thedarkknight1939

whatever they come up with .... i hope its similar to this one... coz this one looks cool...
Ceejay - 9/5/2012, 10:16 AM
Not like the original film was a classic of any kind other than a cult favourite amongst fanboys. It was a budget film that made a decent profit but followed by two really bad sequels and pretty much forgotten by its peers having made no real major impact at the box office of any financial size.

If they can remake this as a decent scifi film like the new Total Recall adaptation and not cater for fanboys and their action film clichés then it may not be guaranteed to make a lot of money but it will be a far more superior film like Total Recall 2012 was to that ridiculous Verhoven version with the Austrian plank of wood.
White - 9/5/2012, 11:14 AM
New Total Recall was pussy PG-13 movie for kids and this gonna be pussy PG-13 movie for kids too.
fettastic - 9/5/2012, 12:22 PM
It sounds like both versions are true. He was frustrated and venting, and his friend went out and blabbed, jeopardizing the whole production.

This is the first I've seen those concept drawings for the new Robo design. That's actually pretty damn cool! Maybe a little uncomfortably close to Iron Man, but maybe that's inevitable.
AutobotCommander84 - 9/5/2012, 1:32 PM
@FlannelGuy26 Oh yes, because anything anyone does these days is original.
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 9/5/2012, 2:22 PM
@IronFan93 - I guess we aren't supposed to offend the children these days. Having a PG13 Robocop would be complete grade A bullshit.

@Ceejay - Like Hell Robocop isn't a classic! It is an action movie classic. Cult films can be classics like Blade Runner.
IIIAdamantiumIII - 9/5/2012, 2:33 PM
meh the 80's original will be so much better.
