Ive known this was planned for ages,with all these sequels to older films,ive been searching for sequel developments to more older films and there is quite a few ''talks''

To this day whenever I watch that movie I get chills during his speech. I hope to see some ground battles with the aliens this time.

ID4 was monumentally stupid and trite (inspirational Presidential speech included), and not in an entertaining way. I'm surprised that so many here are nostalgic for it. Ok, I'm not so surprised.

I really liked the first one, but I thought that it was pretty self contained. So I don't think we need a sequel, especially 17 years later now.

Oh, and yes his speech is awesome

The movie is needed because somewhere out in the cosmos a planet is friggin wondering what happened to their military fleet, so they get this signal from the mother ship before it explodes that the humans have won. So they mobilize the whole planet to do an all out no mercy assault. Captain Hiller is no longer a Marine pilot he is now Captain of his team of astronauts. Pullmans character is a recluse who lives out his days away from all the politics reveared as a old war hero. And Jeff Goldblums character is now president of a global space recon team of the worlds top engineers and scientists trying to pinpoint the location of exttraterrestrial planets capable of what happened on Independence Day. THATS WHY WE NEED ANOTHER DAMN MOVIE...

It was a good fun movie. The first half is great, but gets a little too stupid with bad comedy after the aliens opened a jar off destructoid jam over the humans. (can you say it gets a little Bayish?).

I know this is not a movie speech.. but the best speech ever caught on tape:

This movie is one of the worst films of the 20th century. I'm sure a sequel would rank as one of the worst films of the 21st century, too.

NEED? NEED? Why all of you are talking about NEED a sequel, we don't even need a MOVIE.
It's not about needing. It's just about WANT to see again some characters we liked or loved. that's all.
No. We dont't NEED a sequel for ID4, but I really WANT to see what they can make with that story!

I hope for once they don't make humans win again...

Not needed. The first one is just fine as a standalone flim. It just doesn't make sense to make a sequel. Besides the $$$ it wil bank.

I hope this never happens, I love Independence Day but there's no need for a sequel. Just look at Taken 2.

Sequel? Why? What kind of storyline will they add to the events that already took place? Last I remembered, half of the worlds population and most of the military forces were wiped out in the first movie. Then again I guess in the movie universe, logic does not mean anything.

I loved Independence Day, but a sequel wouldn't be necessary at all. Hollywood has to realize that not every movie needs a sequel.

Say what you will about ID4 (I certainly have). I dislike the movie, but it had the best ad campaign in cinema history. The right blend of mystery and awe. When you saw the white house blow up the first time you saw that trailer in theaters your jaw dropped. Each new ad made you salivate that much more. By the time July 4th rolled around you HAD to see that movie (at least you did if you were a teenager). Hell it wasn't until weeks after I saw the movie that I said "Wait a minute...".

ID4 was a fun popcorn movie. It wasn't really a well done Sci-fi movie. Just pure good guys kicking alien ass action.

If this movie does move forward, how can you do a sequel without Will Smith?
