if i would have heard this news before the Dark Knight Returns premiere last week at the Paley Center, i would have been hounding Andrea and Greg from Warner Bros animation about why they cancelled these great shows.
Kingdork
Kingdork - 1/29/2013, 9:40 AM
I've heard that the so-called cancellation is utter bullshit, as it's nothing more than a mistake made by an intern over at CN or something.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 1/29/2013, 9:46 AM
I'm not sure why people keep asking "why" these shows were cancelled... It's not about a show's quality, it's about whether advertisers want to pay to get a commercial during said shows.

If they had been so critically acclaimed as to be a source of pride for the network, that might have bought them more consideration, but otherwise it all boils down to how big the audience is and whether they're likely to buy what Cartoon Network's advertisers are selling.

JoeMomma29 - 1/29/2013, 9:48 AM
Yeah I do not get CN's thinking at this point. I swear there needs to be a new network based around comicbooks and graphic novels to move these tv show over to sort of like a Syfy channel.

And you would think they would want to hold on to these shows since they are loosing Clone Wars

Hey,Warner Brothers? If you want Bruce Timm to jump to Marvel, keep on treating the animation department like it's a red-headed stepchild.

In his biography, the legendary Chuck Jones once opined that the famous Termite Terrace group of animators only had jobs at Warners because the higher-ups thought they drew Mickey Mouse-and were later fired when said bosses finally figured out that was not so.

Times may change, but attitudes stay stagnant....

@Dev7 - You make sense, and I hate that =P But that's just what I've heard. I wasn't so sure about that either. I was just trying to cling onto that last ray of hope (yeah I know, clinging on a ray doesn't make that much sense practically speaking, but you get the idea).

This is complete garbage. BRING BACK GREEN LANTERN!!! When will these people learn that once you have a good thing, you don't call it quits when it's at its peak. I can't even imagine what the mindset is over at DC and Cartoon Network that would lead to such an idiotic decision.

THIS IS A VERY STUPID MISTAKE!!! Green Lantern and Young Justice were the two best cartoons on T.V. This just make me think that the powers that be at WB really don't know what the hell they are doing. I think what all of this is about is making money through toy sales. Just look at the Batman movies when Tim Burton directed. His movie were good, but then the powers that be at WB saying the Penguin was too scary for kids. And you see the mistake they made after that with the next two films. Who cares about toys?!? Saturday morning cartoons are not even good anymore. At one point in the 80s and 90s you had a whole variety cartoons to chose from. But now it's like they dummy down and recycle old cartoons (Dragon Ball Z) and that's your Saturday morning. IT REALLY SUCKS!!! And think about the new Ben 10 Omniverse, the animation sucks. The previous Ben 10 cartoons were good. But now they changed the format so they can sell more toys, that's so B.S.

"I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly. We do have the new Teen Titans show and the Batman show coming up. Hopefully those will do very well and kinda keep the DC animation thing going on TV. Beyond that, you know, I don’t know."

I feel like Timm just said we better like what they put on or the DC animation on TV will go away. Did he just say that?

@ Levitikuz
"Timm is nobodies bitch." - Amen to that.

It kinda sounds like they're both used to it at this point. They've certainly been in the business for long enough to know what it's like to have a show canned before its time. At least there is stuff to check out on the horizon and I don't have to rely on the legend of korra for my animated needs (not counting teen titans in that).

I'm glad these shows got cancelled In the original Bruce Timm Unviverse The League had a strict No Sidekicks allowed policy. I remember some of the people behind the Jusice League/Justice League Unlimited talking about how bad the show would have been had the been forced to have robin and some other sidekicks on the show as originally planed. More Importantly Teen Titan was a way better show. I was pissed when the got rid of it before so many things on the show were resolved. To add insult to injury they replaced it with this young Justice Crap.

And as far as Green Lantern the Animated series goes. that Show was horribly animated. Bruce Timm needs to get back to his roots and start making stuff like Batman the Animated series again.

And I hope beyond hope that the Peice of Shit know as "Beware the Batman" never see's the light of Day on Cartoon Network.

I want to know why can't WB start their own Saturday or Sunday cartoon block on CW. Years ago they did just that. That being said that was twenty years ago. I would like to see these shows get a DVD release at the end of the series. That is 90 minutes or so that ends the stories. Because that would be nice. Also can only CN show these shows? Because if not why not make another season on a different channel. Maybe even something like having the series on Netflix would be interesting.

I really liked young Justice and enjoyed watching green lantern every week. There are no other shows as good, surely you would think the best thing is to strengthen the lineup with more shows than to weaken it. I hated the last teen titans series it makes no sense why they are bringing it back

Why not transfer the shows over to The Hub? The Hub still shows BTAS, Superman, GI Joe (Never seen that though) YJ and GL would fit in great there! I hope they do that, heck even Boomerang would work!

Bruce Timm's work has been shelved so many times, I don't understand why he hasn't jumped ship. For any people who think it's just that the show isn't getting an audience: switch networks or, even better, make a movie worth seeing in theatres. I'm not hating on the quality of the direct to dvd films they release, they're all really good, but they need to come up with something original, not just an adaptation. Considering how much attention is given to Batman Beyond, shelving it to focus on JLU was a bad idea, in my opinion. I think the only thing keeping Return of the Joker from being worthy of a theatrical audience there's no backstory set up.

CavEl - 1/29/2013, 3:52 PM
And cut out the Bruce Timm should get the reigns to the DC Cinematic Universe. Bruce Timm only likes Batman, he's forced to work Superman, but he only likes Batman.

We had one Wonder Woman movie that was great and made a ton of money and DCAU stopped making Wonder Woman movies. We had one good GL movie and one bad and one okay one. When was the last time the made a Superman movie that was good? They half assed Superman vs. The Elites by giving the animation to a 3 year old, but they continue to put out their best effort when it comes to Batman.

How is that any different from what we have now? Best Batman works, half assed Green Lantern and Superman movies (Sans Man of Steel thanks to Goyer), no Wonder Woman, Flash or Aquaman movies to speak of...

Why the hell would any of you want Bruce Timm for a Goddamn CCO of the DCCU?
Ronin90
Ronin90 - 1/29/2013, 3:52 PM
Going to miss these 2. I did not exactly like the animation of GL, but thought the stories were compelling enough to overlook it. I liked the animation and exploration of minor heroes and villians in Young Justice. Thought both series were entertaining. Maybe they will finish the season out with decent closure on the current storylines, but somehow I doubt it.
