More From David Goyer On MAN OF STEEL; Teases Lex Luthor

Man Of Steel screen writer, David Goyer, recently sat down to talk about the film. While a wide range of topics were discussed, the one that stood out was a tease that Lex Luthor just might find his way in to the movie.

With all the secrecy surrounding Man Of Steel, information about the movie and it's plot has been a little sparse. Screen Writer David Goyer sat down with I Am Rouge to talk about the film and shed some new light on it. One of the things they talked about was seeing star Henry Cavill in the Superman suit for the first time. "Henry is a really nice guy and it’s not always that way. I was like, holy crap that’s Superman! I mean I tell my sons that I work with Superman and Batman. I went and visited the set with my six year-old and I timed it so that Henry was in the suit. We showed up and he was like, “Wow, you do work with Superman!” So I got a lot of cred with my kids for that," he said.

Another subject he touched on was the decision to cast Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. A choice he said he thought was perfect, and went on to say he thoughtfan reaction to the casting was silly. "You just want to get the best actor," Goyer explained.

While rumors have swirled, the general consensus is that Superman's main nemesis, Lex Luthor, will not be involved in Man Of Steel. Not so fast according to Goyer, who coyly said when asked why he chose not to include Lex in the story, " I don’t think anyone has ever confirmed that we haven’t included him."

Goyer also noted that as of right now they are only taking this one movie at a time. They didn't go into Man Of Steel looking to make a trilogy. Goyer said he took his que from producer Christopher Nolan who always says, “Put everything you have in this film and worry about the sequel once the movie is done.” So it looks like they will take the same approach they did with The Dark Knight Trilogy and just focus on making great movies.

To check out what Goyer had to say about doing some rewrites on Godzilla, The Invisible Man, being proud that Blade ushered in the modern comic book movie, head on over to I Am Rouge. For the latest on Man Of Steel, make sure to check back here at CBM.

yeah it's best to focus on the film you are currently making; that's why i don't like most of the marvel commericals..i mean "films"...
HellsHammer - 3/26/2013, 6:58 AM
By far my most anticipated film this year. Then the hobbit, iron man and wolverine.
SimyJo - 3/26/2013, 7:02 AM
David Goyer - He's far from a comic-book god - remember he was executive/producer on the most shit-tastic comicbook film ever: Blade Trinity.

"So it looks like they will take the same approach they did with The Dark Knight Trilogy and just focus on making great movies"

Jesus, I hope they do a better job of reaching that goal.

TDK trilogy great movie score: 1/3

At least they are off to a better start by casting the character well. Cavill looks awesome. Bale looked like a twerpy douche bag and acted even worse.
DrRockit13 - 3/26/2013, 7:05 AM
For me I am excited for all of them. Just like Goyer said I am excited for Iron Man 3 now then i will be super excited for Man of steel, then Wolverine. I will worry about each movie 1 at a time.
DrRockit13 - 3/26/2013, 7:07 AM
@Godzillafart,
Go stink up some other place! With that sh!t.
Nomis1800 - 3/26/2013, 7:10 AM
CANt WAIT FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shadearts - 3/26/2013, 7:13 AM
So that explains was TDKR was sh*t Nolan had put everthing In the TDK not expecting to go any further and when he approached TDKR he realised he had painted his self in to a corner so he made batman a Damon quitter
EdgyOutsider - 3/26/2013, 7:18 AM
If it wasn't for the style over substance writer and director, I wouldn't feel torn on whether to see it or not cause I probably would want to see it.... Goyer did the Blade movies as the sole writer. Outside of the story, Goyer did the writing on his own and Snyder, well I'm not going into that one. I just wish I could get excited for this.
knocturnalzen10 - 3/26/2013, 7:19 AM
i heard him an wesley hated each other on the set of B3 , an at one point they wouldn't speak just leave each other sticky notes smh
superotherside - 3/26/2013, 7:25 AM
Yeah, no teasers for the next film at all like there wasn't a teaser for Joker in Batman Begins... right... :P

As long as they do the movie well I don't care how they concentrate on it. :P
MJPETTY7 - 3/26/2013, 7:34 AM
Goyer gets DC characters, there's no question there. Also, that story about his son, that is awesome!

Here's to hoping for a LexCorp/Lex Luthor reference in MOS!!!
HellsHammer - 3/26/2013, 7:42 AM
Hydrabob
Kind of like Loki in every Thor thing
batLanternarrow - 3/26/2013, 7:47 AM
They should do it like they did with Palpatine in A New Hope
MrDonut - 3/26/2013, 7:51 AM
Seems like Gouer has a larger involvement in this Nolan... Either way I don't mind as long as we finally get the Superman film we've been waiting for!
Timerider84 - 3/26/2013, 7:55 AM
I want to see Lex build a suit with Kryptonite built into the suit, so we can see them fight it out. I want to see Darkseid done right, as well as Doomsday with Superman eventually being killed saving the earth, possibly with him being reborn or coming back in some way. PThere's plenty of good villains to choose from.
titansupes - 3/26/2013, 7:58 AM
@Godzillafart - The vast majority of studios, filmmakers, critics and audiences disagree with you entirely.
gmoney0505 - 3/26/2013, 7:58 AM
People still trying act like they dont like TDKR. TDKR was great, stop trying to jump on the hating bandwagon because most of ya'll cant tell the what is really a plot hole and make up stuff just so.

Can't wait for MOS. Glad this movies is full of secrecy and people not spoiling anything in the title of articles on this site like they did with TDKR.

@Batmaniac & DrRockit13: Hey now, it’s been weeks, WEEKS since I posted one of my “Bale Sucks” gems. It’s like holding in a fart. Have you ever held in a fart for weeks?

For the record, I think Goyer and Nolan are good, if overrated talents, and think TDK was great in spite of Bale.

@titansupes: Ah, yes. But they are wrong. :P
polarkyle - 3/26/2013, 8:20 AM
Batman Begins teased the joker for TDK
ASM teased Norman Osborn for the the sequel
It looks like Man of Steel is doing the same thing
But the hell with a Luthor reference, I want a justice league reference
BrotherJohnson - 3/26/2013, 8:21 AM
DC, you murdered a piece of my soul with that steaming pile of feces that was Green Lantern. I have high hopes for this. Please do not disappoint me.
GodzillaKart - 3/26/2013, 8:23 AM
@Lizard1: While Snyder certainly has some style over substance stinkers (300, Sucker Punch) he also has some pretty great films as well (Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen). Goyer may be uneven as well, but also has moments of being truly inspired. I understand your skepticism, but I think Man of Steel is going to be a perfect storm of awesomeness.
RyKnow - 3/26/2013, 8:25 AM
I like how he said fanboy reaction to the casting of Perry White was silly, I thought that same thing.

I have still have strong reservations about this flick due to the director, but I will save my judgement until after seeing the thing. Snyder did pull one cracking film out of the bag in Dawn of the Dead. Hopefully, Man of Steel will be the long awaited runner up.
126thst - 3/26/2013, 8:44 AM
I hope this movie kicks ass..This and Wolverine are my most anticipated of the summer.
Bread - 3/26/2013, 8:49 AM
@Gusto One word, Viagra.
Bread - 3/26/2013, 8:52 AM
I like that Perry White is black now, it's a nice little switch.
thosemortalmen - 3/26/2013, 9:08 AM
Yeah, Luthor shadowy observing thingy must be bought so that the storyline for a future sequel has a red line. Yeah Goyer is a cool and modest guy and great storyteller, remember whiners, there is no such thing as a perfect artist, every once a while things can happen with a lot of factor, either its a budget, intrusion from the studio, etc. For example: Whedon wrote Alien Ressurection.

So please be a good and decent human being and respect and appreciate others work. Or if you think you are a better artist than them, let us see your work get made.
Peace and out.
LP4 - 3/26/2013, 9:18 AM
@HydraBob- Nope. I don't remember Lex Luthor ever having actually APPEARED in a single Superman film. Reason being- the real-estate swindler we've seen in every Superman film was NOT Lex Luthor. Not the REAL Lex Luthor anyway.

Lex has never had a proper portrayal. So you and all the other Lex-haters should just be quiet already. It's annoying. Even IF Lex appears in the movie, what's the big [frick]ing deal anyway? It won't take away from the action and fighting between Superman and Zod.

Just stop bitching about Lex already [frick]
GodzillaKart - 3/26/2013, 9:21 AM
To everybody disparaging Hackman's Luthor in the 70's and 80's. Keep in mind that the Luthor in the comics then was a silly robot riding mad scientist with a love of green and purple. The more realistic Luthor we have today is a direct result of the Hackman portrayal changing the character.
JULEZ13 - 3/26/2013, 9:29 AM
Christopher Meloni = Lex Luthor in disguise.
lucio7lopez - 3/26/2013, 9:34 AM
Luthor, Doomsday, Metallo, and please... Darkseid!!!
NeoBaggins - 3/26/2013, 9:55 AM
I can see Brainiac and Metallo unleahsed in this series.
thewonderer - 3/26/2013, 10:06 AM
Godzillafart, BB, TDK, and TDKR are unanimously considered fantastic movies. If you don't think so that is fine, doesn't make any difference in how well the general consensus is.

Its like saying theres nothing special about The Godfather, go ahead and think it, but the vast majority would disagree with you.

No film is loved by every single person, so the best thing to do is attain the majority consensus.
darkknightmare2012 - 3/26/2013, 10:09 AM
they really need to bring in doomsday in part 2 .. have doomsday kill superman in the end of #2 and lead into a justice league movie .. where the plot is the league coming together to stop doomsday and the superman imposter the eradicator..
SuperAwesomeBadassness - 3/26/2013, 10:16 AM
For the people who complain that Lex Luthor is involved in everything with Superman, you can't have Superman without Lex. He needs someone to challenge him like Lex. Lex, being human, makes it so much better, someone Superman could defeat so easily in a fight, but causes so much problems in his life is badass. You would complain if TDK trilogy did not have the Joker, cause the Joker is Batman's "Lex".

@Batmaniac agreed, too much people on this site hate on DC.
Jollem - 3/26/2013, 10:17 AM
nothing but great talent involved with this movie. can't wait
DanteSparda - 3/26/2013, 10:25 AM
Tease Brainiac motherfücker
GodzillaKart - 3/26/2013, 10:27 AM
@thewonderer: Bale was a shitty Batman and don't go comparing those films to The Godfather. It's embarrassing.
JorL5150 - 3/26/2013, 10:31 AM
@ juliez-

You could be right- but I'm very skeptical that col hardy is luthor
-----------

Nice interview clip- personally I don't want a "trilogy" - I want an ongoing series.
But as long as we finally get an epic superman film I honestly don't care.
GodzillaKart - 3/26/2013, 10:40 AM
Interesting link to a guy who I think has created a pretty fair system to assessing the level of CBM acclaim.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/features/1581/what-re-the-most-acclaimed-comic-book-films

Obviously, the results are going to cause some contention, but it's hard to argue with his methods.
