Zack Snyder Says You Don't Design SUPERMAN As One Movie

While chatting about the possibility of a sequel Man Of Steel, director Zack Snyder says there is no plan to make a trilogy like The Dark Knight. However, he did go on to say that you don't design a Superman movie as a one-off.

A lot of goodies from Empire's latest issue, which features Man Of Steel, have been making their way online. Part of their conversation with director Zack Snyder was asking him about the possible Justice League movie, as well as Man Of Steel sequels. While he remained tight-lipped about Justice League, but he did offer up a hint as to whether or not they expect Superman to get a sequel. Explained Snyder, "We didn't design the movie like Batman [i.e. as a trilogy] but I don't think anybody would say you design a Superman movie as a one-off." While this is an interesting tid-bit, keep in mind that Superman Returns was suppose to have sequels. However, due to it's lackluster box-office and poor reviews, they never came to fruition.

In regards to Justice League, it was revealed yesterday that Snyder might already have signed on to direct. DC's other superhero properties will depend heavily on Man Of Steel, and whether it can prove financially successful for Warner Brothers to give the green light on some lesser known heroes. For the latest on all things Man Of Steel, as well as Justice League, keep checking back here at CBM.

let's see how MOS will do. It could be best Snyder movie to date.
If it's really good, then we will probably see him directing JLA movie anytime soon. And MOS sequel. That's a lot of work for you Zack ...
MrReese - 4/23/2013, 8:37 AM
I'm sure it'll get a sequel.

so Zack

Future Past, you’re a joke. You think you’ve been shit on??! Let me tell you a little story about myself.

I was selected to be a background extra in Iron Man 3 this past summer here in my hometown of Wilmington, NC. I have been a life-long Marvel fan and believed I was getting to take part in a life-long dream of mine; being in a blockbuster film, more importantly, a Marvel film. I was selected for a 2 day shoot which included around 100 extras, RDJ, Paltrow, etc. I showed up for filming on day-one and made my way through wardrobe and make-up. About an hour into everything I was called out by a guy with a bull-horn. I made my way over to him where he proceeded to tell me that because my email address matched the screen name I use on this website that “Marvel was very upset with me.” And that they wanted me to leave the set. I was forced in-front of everyone to pack my bag and leave like I had done something wrong. Basically, I was degraded as a person for being too big of a fan of something I love.

So, Future Past, believe me when I say your little “issues” ain’t shit, bro.

1. Man of Steel
3. Ka-El
3. Last Son of Krypton
SaxoWolf - 4/23/2013, 8:52 AM

ManCalledSting - 4/23/2013, 8:54 AM
This movie looks like it shall be awesome, and I love to see it out do all CBMs that came before it. I'd love to see a hint at Brainiac in a post credit scene or something.
jerryblake - 4/23/2013, 8:54 AM

Thanks, guys. I said that to say this:

If you have hate in your heart let it out! If you don't like "Will & Grace", don't mean there's something wrong with you! Means there's something wrong with Will; he's a homosexual!

Luckily MOS looks like it will be far better than Superman Returns. I think a shared DCU is looking more and more likely. Finally we might get a decent big screen Batman!
jerryblake - 4/23/2013, 9:04 AM

weirdos ? you where the chosen one, for [frick] sake !
And what did you do ?!

CKent - 4/23/2013, 9:06 AM
So here I sit, incredibly happy about all the amazing superhero movies coming out. I myself am most excited for MOS but am a fan all all superheroes and I am highly looking forward to seeing marvels next phase. As I scroll through the comments thinking how hero fans are lucky to be around to see these movies I come across a potential large spolier for the upcoming Ironman movie. I do not know if this statement is true or not, irregardless it has put me in a fowl mood. I ask that something be done to prevent such information from being posted without a proper warning. I am extremely disappointed to have seen such a thing and hope to be able to still enjoy the movie.
Thank you for your time
jerryblake - 4/23/2013, 9:08 AM

what's the cbm street cred ? i think yo made that up, didn't you ?
iPaul - 4/23/2013, 9:09 AM
Let's hope MOS will be a really good movie.
Supes17 - 4/23/2013, 9:14 AM
Okay, I hate Superman Returns as much as the next guy right now, but SR received generally positive reviews from movie critics...

It was supposed to have a sequel as well, but it didn't do well at the box office.

But movies seem to earn a lot more today than they did 7 years ago, so we'll see how MOS performs
Gmoney84 - 4/23/2013, 9:16 AM
Gusto's just jealous cause he doesn't get to hang out with "little people". (Is that right? Is that PC?)
ParisSun - 4/23/2013, 9:16 AM
Boy, I wonder if people are going to spoil MoS like this right before it comes out here.
iPaul - 4/23/2013, 9:24 AM
@RamonSuarez +1
thewonderer - 4/23/2013, 9:25 AM

Those are the worst movie titles in the history of film titles

@thewonderer: You think "Man of Steel" is a terrible movie title?
aRandomSinisterClone - 4/23/2013, 9:35 AM
"it was revealed yesterday that Snyder might already have signed on to direct".... MEANS: i heard a rumor yesterday that ill spread more...
thewonderer - 4/23/2013, 9:44 AM
I meant sequel titles.

Last Son? Sounds like a cheesy revenge thriller.

Man of Tomorrow? Sounds like something from Disney

In My Opinion Superman should feature in 8 DC films, I know its alot but in 'My DC films Universe' I'd have this

World's Finest- Luthor, Metallo, Deathstroke and BlackMask with Batman
Justice League- Darkseid
MOSII- Brainiac/Kandor storyline
Trinity- Superman/Batman Apokolypse with Darkseid and introduction of Supergirl
Justice League II - Crisis on two earths/ Tower of Babel
MOSIII- Doomsday, Luthor, Superboy, Bizarro
Justice League III - Kingdom Come/ Darkseid's return

ofc its very hard to pin an actor down for 8 movies so I'd expect 5 maybe 6 so 3 MOS films with 3 Justice League films
Minotauro - 4/23/2013, 10:04 AM
Superman Returns has negative reviews? 76 percent is negative? When Thor is at just a 77%? I guess they were both bad? Lol.

@Wonderer - They seem formulaic. But those titles fit very well.
DCfan89 - 4/23/2013, 10:20 AM
@Ramon those are awesome titles... i was thinking the same
DCfan89 - 4/23/2013, 10:22 AM
im not a fan of the world's finest, trinity ideas... no no no
jerryblake - 4/23/2013, 10:23 AM
this one is for you, buddy :)
126thst - 4/23/2013, 10:30 AM
So pumped for MOS. I think it will be great.
BITEMEFANBOY - 4/23/2013, 10:37 AM
This is a good approach by Snyder, because this way they can focus on each movie to make it as awesome as possible without thinking about sequels, and therefore damaging their product, because of it. I mean look at what happened to Iron Crap 2, because it was too busy trying to set up the Average-rs.
Nomis1800 - 4/23/2013, 10:42 AM
Why do people have to get back to Superman Returns??? It was absolutely clear from the get-go that it was going to be supersucking and god-awful. I clearly have no clue what people've ever say in that crap.

This, on the other hand, looks good from the get-go. Cannot wait to see how it'll be when Snyder directs (PLEASE!!!) the JLA film!
scoobyjas - 4/23/2013, 10:48 AM
I hope they don't make a trilogy if the movie is good... I hope they make eight movies!! Why limit yourself to a trilogy!? It's a comic book movie! Do comic books end? NO! Why should should the movies? That was my biggest pet peeve with the Batman trilogy, Batman wouldn't leave Gotham.
ATrueHero1987 - 4/23/2013, 10:56 AM
Guys, who do you think has written the best Superman origin story? John Byrne, Mark Waid, J. Michael Straczynski, or Geoff Johns?
TheTank - 4/23/2013, 11:02 AM
I just have to point this out because it drives me insane for some reason. Superman Returns did not get a poor reception from critics, quite the opposite, it received very high praise from critics, it didn't resonate with comic book fans as the Superman movie they wanted to see. It out performed Batman begins at the box office. If i watch the movie completely void of any expectations and whatever, it is a well made movie despite that the FX are sometimes subpar for a 200mil budget. But as a superman nut who wants to see the most epic movie made around my favorite character, Superman Returns was boring.

Alan Horn had said that the movie didn't position the character properly for a new franchise, and it didn't, it would have been a decent although bittersweet ending for the reeve series, but to start a new franchise it would have been burdened with too much shit to be able to effectively tell an awesome Superman story.
