I just want to remind people that this list is made up of films that I viewed at the theater (or later on home media) during 2013. I can't rank a film I haven't seen. The reason for both "Lone Survivor" and "Her" not being on the list even though I viewed them is because they technically didn't have a wide US release until 2014 (but I will say the latter was fantastic). So read on and enjoy my fellow CBM users!

So much build up, so much anticipation, so much guessing...... Aaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnndddddd Man of Steel.

JamesMan, pack your things and bring them to my office. No, you're no fired; you're getting my job. I quit. I'm gonna go blow my last paycheck on ice cream.
JamesMan - 2/22/2014, 11:29 PM
Your job:

JamesMan - 2/22/2014, 11:31 PM
I should probably say for future reference I don't think Man of Steel is the best film of all time. I just found it to be the best of 2013 based on the film, its impact on me, and my experience watching it (which was truly something I've never witnessed before).
Alphadog - 2/23/2014, 12:30 AM
Have you joined the CBM OAU Skype group James?
Pedrito - 2/23/2014, 12:36 AM
After scrolling down from #25 or so and seeing those good movies there, when it finally came to #1 it felt like a twist ending worthy of M. Night Shambalaya.
Thanks for putting up all those pics, though!
Praetorian - 2/23/2014, 12:46 AM
Man of steel was beast.
JamesMan - 2/23/2014, 1:08 AM
@Alphadog

I have, I haven't really commented much. I haven't gotten many notifications of it in a while so I don't know if people just aren't active right now or I'm missing messages.

good article! nice way of doing it, at first i was thinking, jeez isn't he gonna say anything... but then i just enjoyed looking at each picture come up and I found myself really liking the format.

I'd love to see every year like this, cuz I bet it'd give you a real flavor for what things were like that year, or if you didn't know many of the movies, it would be very mysterious and cool. a lot of these i just haven't heard of at all. everything is CBM all the time for me, i've kinda lost touch with actual movies. so cool article! huzzah
Enphlieuwince - 2/23/2014, 5:15 AM
Good idea and well executed, JM! The only thing I'd do differently is a brief description of why. With this many movies that could be very time consuming so maybe the top 5 or 10 only would be a nice touch. Otherwise, can't wait to see what how you rank this year, next year...

You've earned this...

*Pours out half*

Ok, NOW you've earned this.

MoS number one? Well it's your opinion but whatever... doesn't change the logic flaws that are undeniable. Still very good list. I haven't even seen a quarter of these films though.
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:18 AM
@Glider

I regard MoS as more of an ingenious illusion more than an actual decent film.
Brainiac13 - 2/23/2014, 7:22 AM
You got to see a lot of movies man........lucky dude.

Gravity and Man of Steel are my top two with Ten Years a slave, Wolverine and the Butler in my list.

Haven't seen any of the rest except the rest of the CBMs.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:23 AM
No comic book or superhero film was that good in 2013 to make me call it the favorite.

Wolf of Wall Street
Her (finally saw it, awesome movie)
Evil Dead (a "deadly" surprise)
The Worlds End
The Great Gatsby

All those were just top notch spectacular movies in my opinion. I disliked Iron [frick]tard 3 to the max, I thought MOS was great but pure escapism fun, Thor :TDW wasn't ok, it felt like how I felt for Iron Man 2, forgettable.

It was a dull year for CBM's in my opinion and this year looks like only 1 or 2 will stand out, most likely it's the MS movies that do it such as Cap & Guardians. If TASM2 is a huge hit, there is no god.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:24 AM
The Butler was amazing too.

By the way, I disliked Gravity. THERE, I SAID IT! SUE ME!
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:25 AM
Prisoners SPOILERS

By the way I saw Prisoners recently, loved it though I read a review afterwards that was complaining about how the film never played around with the idea that Hugh Jackman's character, Keller, was going too far by torturing Alex and in effect, becoming as bad as the very abductors of the two girls. Ludicrous notion because the film played around with the idea via Franklin Birch's reactions and other various things throughout the plot. Only because nobody outright stated it and the film didn't beat you over the head with it with about as much subtly as Batman and Robin's dialogue doesn't mean it was no present or even addressed.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:25 AM
I only saw like 30 movies last year from this list. I gotta say, I'm impressed with myself, 2012 I barely saw those movies.

Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:26 AM
How the hell do people find the money to see all these damn films?
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:29 AM
WWZ reminds me of X-Men Origins and I Am Legend.

I Am Legend cause it has tons of similarities to the movie such as a big star being responsible for surviving and saving the world in some way and is probably the stand out actor of the movie and even "the only good one"

X-Men Origins cause everything starts out promising and good. You feel the fear lurking in the shadows in the next 10 minutes and it happens so well, then as the movie continues, you begin to realize the many changes and re-writes this movie had to endure and as the movie continues it drops down to getting worse and worse and worse then finally hitting low so hard, that all logic is thrown right out the window and on top of a car bleeding to death. RIP LOGIC.
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:30 AM
Movie tickets cost like £/$11 right? Though it's fairly likely JamesMan saw some of them online or at home, that would mean in totally a person who paid full price to see all these films in cinemas would have payed over £/$400.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:30 AM
@MAC- Mind you, I didn't see a lot of these movies in theaters, only 4 I saw in theaters. Hell in 2011 I only went to the movies, 3 times.

Everything else was rental, DVD rip off of PS3DIVX or Movie4k
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:31 AM
Soto regarding MoS as "escapism fun" makes the most sense. To me, it being regarded as high art, grand intelligence, nigh-flawless or anything close to something like TDK only further convinces me it was a better crafted illusion than an actual film. And no, I'm not saying you can't love MoS. Love it to bits, only acknowledge it had massive flaws is all.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:31 AM
Take that back, I saw Conjuring in theaters so that is 5, but that was terrible and forgettable.
TheEmptySoulessSpectre - 2/23/2014, 7:33 AM
Pain and Gain above American Hustle? Eh...Prisoners is my top film of the year. No one said a peep about that film or anybody in during this Oscar Season. Damn shame.
marvel72 - 2/23/2014, 7:33 AM
man of steel number one film of the year,it was good but not that good.

i found films like gravity, stoker, the conjuring, elysium, rush & django unchained all better than man of steel, but whatever floats your boat.

the wolf of wall street & american hustle are the two best movies of 2014 so far.
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:33 AM
@Soto

The only movie I actually saw in cinemas last year was Man of Steel and The Hobbit. I saw maybe like... 7 others on line, both IM3, Thor 2 and Prisoners included. Actually... saying that... MoS, Hobbit, Prisoners, Thor 2 and IM3 are the only 2013 I bothered to watch... and I only saw Prisoners two days ago :P
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:35 AM
I've enjoyed films with MoS problems before, for example, The Departed, that are defeated by it's own logic or do stupid things.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:35 AM
@MAC- It had flaws, but I wouldn't recognize them as massive. Then again, I feel Superman needed the escapism action and fun, it needed that destruction and action. It didn't need to tell a valid story or have to make sense, it just needed to show Superman kick-ass. That's all I was really looking for. I mean back when Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions got released, me and my brother couldn't shut up about the possibilities of actually making Superman have action scenes at the level of the Matrix, finally 10 years later we got what we wanted and I'm happy for it.

Could of been better, yes, but hey I can't say this wasn't the movie I was looking for, it indeed was.
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:36 AM
Pain and Gain, from what I gather, is shunned because it made light/comedy of a real event that involved abduction and torture.
TheEmptySoulessSpectre - 2/23/2014, 7:36 AM
Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street were brilliant. But I doubt Leo will take home an Oscar since there was a lot of controversy surrounding that film, even if he deserves it.
Klone - 2/23/2014, 7:37 AM
@Soto

The tone isn't really a legitimate as you either love it or hate it. I'm refer to the logic flaws. One big problem I have though is entirely personal, though it can be considered somewhat legit as it does nothing to help you give a damn.
MrSotoMan - 2/23/2014, 7:37 AM
@MAC- You should watch more of the movies of 2013, a lot just stood out way more than CBMS.
