Edgar Wright parted ways with Marvel Studios yesterday, and now following reports that Drew Goddard had left Daredevil, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that a new showrunner has been found for the Netflix series. That will be Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Steve S. DeKnight, and he is currently in late stage negotiations to take over. However, before you go thinking that Marvel and Disney are upsetting everyone and anyone connected to them, the reason that Goddard has left is simply to work on Sinister Six for Sony Pictures. He will remain a consultant on the drama. DeKnight served as showrunner on three seasons of Spartacus, and worked with Goddard on Joss Whedon's Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as Whedon's Dollhouse and The CW's Smallville.

UPDATE: Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed writer, director and producer Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," "Angel") has joined "Marvel's Daredevil" as Executive Producer & Showrunner on the all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Drew Goddard, who also wrote the first two episodes, will continue to serve as Executive Producer on "Marvel"s Daredevil" as he writes and preps Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man" spin-off film, "The Sinister Six."

@mrmbj

Prepare for immediate arguments.
remembertheking - 5/24/2014, 11:53 AM
shit is going down like the day SHIELD collapsed and hydra surfaced. This is going to be deadly. All along people like Whedon, Wright, Feige, Gunn and Goddard were actually SHIELD while all the others were Hydra. Hydra is in control.
Maestro - 5/24/2014, 11:54 AM
As long as the screenplay is complete, which I believe it is, we just need a director to direct it. I've seen episodes of Spartacus. I would say deknight is a serviceable replacement
Marvel1997 - 5/24/2014, 11:55 AM
I don't know who this new guy is.. Can anyone who is familiar with his work tell me if this is a good choice?
0megaDaGod - 5/24/2014, 11:57 AM

LMB10 - 5/24/2014, 11:57 AM
Sounds cool. Nice replacement
Maestro - 5/24/2014, 11:57 AM
I would be EXTREMELY excited for Goddard doing sinister six if TASM didn't suck BEYOND measure. I was so excited for it before I saw TASM2. =(
JoJo1982 - 5/24/2014, 11:58 AM
Love the Spartacus show
So this is fine with me
Maestro - 5/24/2014, 11:58 AM

MikeHawk - 5/24/2014, 12:01 PM
GODDARD AND WRIGHT LEFT MARVEL STUDIOS BEFORE IT COMPLETELY TURNED INTO HYDRA!
0megaDaGod - 5/24/2014, 12:01 PM
Today has been sucking hard.

TASM2 was ass, mainly due to its villains

And while Sparticus is dopr, Goddard is a huuuuge DD fan

Sony is killing two franchises at once
0megaDaGod - 5/24/2014, 12:02 PM

ezio619 - 5/24/2014, 12:03 PM

Maestro - 5/24/2014, 12:04 PM
Why in the world would he leave DD if he's a huge fan? This is so stupid. Feels alot like Singer leaving XMen for Superman Returns. Ugh.

ezio619 - 5/24/2014, 12:07 PM
also gunn just posted this on his facebook

Sometimes you have friends in a relationship. You love each of them dearly as individuals and think they're amazing people. When they talk to you about their troubles, you do everything you can to support them, to keep them together, because if you love them both so much doesn't it make sense they should love each other? But little by little you realize, at heart, they aren't meant to be together - not because there's anything wrong with either of them, but they just don't have personalities that mesh in a comfortable way. They don't make each other happy. Although it's sad to see them split, when they do, you're surprisingly relieved, and excited to see where their lives take them next.
It's easy to try to make one party "right" and another party "wrong" when a breakup happens, but it often isn't that simple. Or perhaps it's even more simple than that - not everyone belongs in a relationship together. It doesn't mean they're not wonderful people.
And that's true of both Edgar Wright and Marvel. One of them isn't a person, but I think you get what I mean.
HurricaneXavier - 5/24/2014, 12:07 PM
I'm going to take this as a win.
kevberg - 5/24/2014, 12:08 PM
Steven DeKnight should be a good fit. Guy knows TV shows well. ANGEL was brilliant in its later seasons.
Maestro - 5/24/2014, 12:08 PM
@saxo

What did you like about it? Not familiar with the story. A friend watches it all the time though.
ruadh - 5/24/2014, 12:08 PM
Well...cool beans. Nothing to see here.
