Mark Ruffalo Dismisses Talk Of A PLANET HULK Movie; "You Need More Banner"

Echoing the thoughts of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Avengers: Age of Ultron star Mark Ruffalo expresses interest in Planet Hulk, but reiterates that one is not in the works and that it could be too early for a movie which would feature little to no Bruce Banner.

A Planet Hulk movie has been rumoured again and again, but the denials keep on coming, and if the plan is to still give the Green Goliath his own solo outing after his successful reintroduction in 2012's The Avengers, it won't take place in outer space! Talking to MTV News, Mark Ruffalo shared his thoughts on the beloved comic book story, before adding, "I don’t think ['Planet Hulk'] is the way to go yet. I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators." It's a fair point, but could the story not be changed to feature a lot more of the Hulk's human alter ego? We'll have to wait and see, and it wouldn't be at all surprising if a Hulk movie is among those announced at Marvel's panel during next month's San Diego Comic Con.

Why would Marvel ever do Planet Hulk, anyway?
staypuffed - 6/30/2014, 5:19 AM
I get that it's an awesome concept, and apparently well executed (I haven't read it yet) but as an entry into Marvel Studios' cinematic universe? Not gonna happen.
batz11 - 6/30/2014, 5:24 AM
What the hell is so difficult? They couldn't do flashbacks or something of Banner on Earth to balance out the Hulk some?
SuperCat - 6/30/2014, 5:28 AM
Never cared for Planet Hulk.
Doopie - 6/30/2014, 5:28 AM
You have to have banner involved in some way shape or form, all hulk wouldn't work
Brainiac13 - 6/30/2014, 5:29 AM
Maybe he's using Misdirection....
DEVLIN712 - 6/30/2014, 5:29 AM
I agree, sure, seeing Hulk destroy stuff is cool but seeing Banner cope with the duality of the Hulk is the most interesting in my eyes.
BatManHeisenberg - 6/30/2014, 5:30 AM
I feel like(at this time) this Hulk doesn't work. We'd need a world-hated Hulk to do this.
charlie2094 - 6/30/2014, 5:31 AM
Exactly! Banner is most of what makes Hulk interesting, can't go without him. Never really cared for Planet Hulk either, didn't think it was that great.

Really don't see Marvel going down this route yet, but him at least being aware of it maybe means there have been discussions about it, potentially. Much prefer another Hulk film with the Leader and Abomination return. Planet Hulk could come, but hopefully not anytime soon.
TheBlasi - 6/30/2014, 5:33 AM
That's good. Also, if the next Hulk movie is offically announced at SDCC... BEST EDITION OF THE COMIC-CON EVER!!! Last thing, for those who want a Planet Hulk movie, watch the video below:
Gamera623 - 6/30/2014, 5:33 AM
Planet Hulk is kind of a lame storyline anyway....but we REALLY need an Incredible Hulk 2.

More than Black Panther, Miss Marvel or Doctor Strange.

More than a Black Widow solo film.

And 1000X more than a Loki movie.

Its my #1 desire for the next unannounced MCU film.
McNyagano - 6/30/2014, 5:34 AM
Eh the budget for Planet Hulk would be huge. I don't think Marvel would want to spend that kind of money. And I agree with everyone else, the Banner/Hulk dynamic is much more interesting to me.
themidnightking - 6/30/2014, 5:34 AM
What I'm hearing is Ruffalo not wanting to do it because Mo-Cap work is a bitch. lol
kinghulk - 6/30/2014, 5:35 AM
Gamera- i love hulk but i would argue we need a black panther or miss/captain marvel film more to introduce a bit more diversity.
TheAbaryMan369 - 6/30/2014, 5:36 AM
I couldn't agree more
SuperCat - 6/30/2014, 5:37 AM
Agree with @ Doopie
BatzFTWfan - 6/30/2014, 5:38 AM
It will never happen. A world war hulk adaption for Avengers will never happen. Just be lucky it has an animated series. Why another movie ?

BatzFTWfan - 6/30/2014, 5:40 AM
*animated movie
TheRationalNerd - 6/30/2014, 5:42 AM
-Red Hulk and A-Bomb
Or
-Leader (gamma world)

A hulk sequel is LONG overdue and NO I Could care less for Hulk in Avengers. We need to see more of Ross, Doc Samson hell...even She-Hulk for the heck of it.
antoineflemming - 6/30/2014, 5:43 AM
I really hope there's no Loki movie. But I don't think a Planet Hulk movie would work either. I'm surprised they have confidence in a Hulk movie at all.
Doopie - 6/30/2014, 5:43 AM
They could adapt the idea of Hulk being exiled from earth but not follow the same exact story. They'd need to set up Hulk as a global threat first tho.
soforizo - 6/30/2014, 5:45 AM
I've pretty much given up on the Hulk getting a sequel, that even Planet Hulk would be welcomed.
GURILLAPUD - 6/30/2014, 5:46 AM
We don't need another Hulk movie, we had 2 already. Give us some new characters, give me Black Panther.
MrBlackjack - 6/30/2014, 5:49 AM
I've never really wanted a Planet Hulk film anyway. I much rather have a straight up sequel to The Incredible Hulk sequel.
ManofSteel23 - 6/30/2014, 5:50 AM
the same reason they will never do transformers in space, because you need the bloody human side
AlphaMasterFlex - 6/30/2014, 5:51 AM
There should just be a Hulk sequel with Leader first. But I don't see why they couldn't just re-write it so banner could be on Skaar since he can't die due to the hulk or have him be like a lil angel fighting the hulk subconsciously inside their head. I'd be down for another Hulk movie but I really dong expect to see Marvel announce one until after The Avengers 2 comes out.. At comic-Con I'm hoping for Doctor Strange, Thor 3, Black Panther, and I don't expect Miss. marvel movie til phase 4. We won't hear about Guardians 2/Inhumans until marvel sees how well the first does at the B.O.
TheRationalNerd - 6/30/2014, 5:51 AM
Although we may not "need" another Hulk movie the possibilities of having one would excite tons of MCU fans. I mean, didn't Ruffalo sign a 5-7 picture contract with Marvel? I'm too lazy to look it up...lol
mgeoff88 - 6/30/2014, 5:52 AM
Planet Hulk wouldn't be pratcial to turn into a live-action movie. It would be really expensive to make.

Another thing is, Kevin Fiege said the next solo Hulk movie would need to focus on Bruce Banner a lot. There is no Bruce Banner in Planet Hulk.

@batz That's actually not a bad idea, but I still think it would be too tricky.
ATrueHero1987 - 6/30/2014, 5:55 AM
We need a sequel to TIH. Bring in The Leader & Zzazzxx and/or Absorbing Man!

And Hell no to Red Hulk & A-Bomb! Too many damn Hulk characters. Wish Marvel didn't do that.
NeoBaggins - 6/30/2014, 5:56 AM
Why do a Planet HULK film when we can watch HULK run around the city smashing stuff. You know, because we've never seen that before.

GreenLanternRulez - 6/30/2014, 5:57 AM
Good! Planet Hulk is terrible!
TheBlasi - 6/30/2014, 5:57 AM
MrBlackjack:
I've never really wanted a Planet Hulk film anyway. I much rather have a straight up sequel to The Incredible Hulk sequel.

^^
THIS!
TheBaroness89 - 6/30/2014, 5:59 AM
With all the possibilities in Hulk mythos why would anyone want to settle on Planet Hulk is beyond me.
The Leader, Absorbing Man need to be done- I want to see those guys vs The Hulk
A rematch with Blonsky...well that's already happening.
Doopie - 6/30/2014, 6:01 AM
I would like to see the Absorbing Man on film. He's kind of a brutish dummy but visually it would look great. I'd like to see him absorb Mjolnir like in EMH with the same consequences too.

Weighing it up though I would prefer a BP movie to another Hulk one
MrBlackjack - 6/30/2014, 6:02 AM
[frick], I had an extra "sequel".
ProfessorX - 6/30/2014, 6:07 AM
Is Keira Knightley on drugs?
scapegoatjones - 6/30/2014, 6:08 AM
hulk vs the marvel universe
FastFlames - 6/30/2014, 6:08 AM
Hold you horses BlackJack, don't be talking TIH3 until we see 2... Lol ;)
0megaDaGod - 6/30/2014, 6:09 AM
That sucks. I think that after a movie or two it would be a great shift of the paradigm to throw Hulk into an envioronment where he was vulnerable. Much like I'd love to see Thor in a GOTG sequel where he's not really the strongest guy in the room.

If this really isn't on the table, I'd love for them to do an Indestructible Hulk movie, or a straight up sequel to TIH where he's trying to put his life back together now that he's a hero. This way you could still include Thunderbolt Ross (even get Pasdar to cameo as Talbot) and have him be dismissed from the army. Then he gets picked up by the Leader to help with an anti Hulk initiative. Introduce Rick Jones (or Amadeus Cho, though that may give people IM3 flashbacks). Then let those boys cook

OR

Do a movie including the Leader in which he finds a way to separate Banner from the Hulk, which leads to Savage Hulk. This way, you could have Banner assemble a non Avengers team to take down The Hulk. This could include She Hulk and any number of new characters they want to introduce into the MCU. This way you could also show off Banner's tech skills like they showed in a recent Hulk run
