When asked by Digital Spy whether he believes Marvel are heading in the direction of an Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy team-up as both sets of heroes prepare to take on Thanos, writer and director James Gunn - who has recently been rumoured to be in the running to helm a third instalment of The Avengers - had this to say. "I think that there's certainly a decent chance that in the near future some of the Guardians or some of the Avengers or the Guardians AND the Avengers or some sort of permutation of that, they'll meet at some point in time." The director then addresses the budget and humour before talk turned to what stage he and Marvel are at with a sequel. "I've been thinking about a sequel from the beginning. When I was setting up Guardians, I wanted it to be a movie that worked by itself, but also helped set up a whole galaxy of characters that we could play with in different ways. I have tons of ideas of things we can do, but we'll just have to see how things go..." What do you guys think?

Inevitable. It should happen at this point.
Pasto - 7/24/2014, 1:21 PM
Imagine a scene where Star-Lord and Cap are fighting Thanos or something?

That'd be glorious.
JamesMan - 7/24/2014, 1:22 PM
Should happen. Imagine the awesome team-up in Avengers 3 if you also had the Guardians!
LubedUp - 7/24/2014, 1:22 PM
Shouldn't it be "when" and not "if" they wouldn't release a GOTG movie if it wasn't going to crossover at some point.
Pasto - 7/24/2014, 1:23 PM
Or Hulk and Groot have a shouting match.
DeusExSponge - 7/24/2014, 1:24 PM
It'll happen, Thanos is too big of a threat for the Avengers to take head on. If they even want a chance to fight against him when he has the infinity gauntlet, they're going need as much allies as they can get!

Also I hope the Living Tribunal appears in the MCU, would be badass to see him on the big screen.
TheAbaryMan369 - 7/24/2014, 1:27 PM
They will definitely team up eventually. Maybe not all of them, but some. I think at the end of GOTG 2, Quill, Adam Warlock, and Nova travel to Earth to warn the Avengers of Thanos.
TheAmbassador - 7/24/2014, 1:31 PM
I remember thinking GotG would just be a movie for these characters to get slaughtered by Thanos and show how badass he is. While that still might be the case, I never would have thought this could have turned into a legit sub franchise and spawn sequels/crossovers.
GeekyCheekyChic - 7/24/2014, 1:34 PM
Hulk and Groot side by side, Rocket and Tony having an argument, Drax and Gamora and Thor fighting off Thanos and his army....I can see it all in my head
TheDudeRusty - 7/24/2014, 1:35 PM
It's called Avengers 3.
BlackestKnight - 7/24/2014, 1:37 PM

Groot: .....I am Groot

Hulk: And they call me stupid
Pasto - 7/24/2014, 1:38 PM
@Doopie
Lmao, imagine a scene where Rocket and Hawkeye are having an argument about whose more of a lone wolf and a badass?

MrBlackjack - 7/24/2014, 1:40 PM
Make it so!
ImInteresting - 7/24/2014, 1:41 PM
Hopefully they keep building Thanos up and save him for avengers 4 or something like that.
Cles - 7/24/2014, 1:44 PM
Pasto, that would be hilarious. I'm pretty sure Renner would lose that battle. He plays Hawkeye a bit on the wooden and stoic side.

mmadadamm - 7/24/2014, 1:49 PM
Thanos for avengers 4 would be better since he's the ultimate boss, but then who would be the big baddie for avengers 3?
Meteor - 7/24/2014, 1:49 PM
Also, Peter Quill, the guy who knows only tapes for listening to music with Tony Stark, the guy who owns the technology of the futur :D
batz11 - 7/24/2014, 1:49 PM
Seriously though, if GotG is a huge hit or even moderate hit...Avengers 2 will probably approach 2 billion, can't imagine what a cross-over movie event between the two franchises would make, 2.5 billion?
MarkV - 7/24/2014, 1:49 PM
I'm so surprised this movie is good!

ThemightyDucks - 7/24/2014, 1:49 PM

One bastard week and it'll be here!
antman8o8 - 7/24/2014, 1:57 PM
Excited for James Gunn doing a sequel but I hope these rumors stay rumors that he will be directing Avengers 3 instead of Joss Whedon. It just wouldn't really make sense especially since Avengers and what everything is leading up to with Thanos' coming to be directed by Gunn. Whedon wrote and directed Avengers 1 & 2, only makes sense that he finishes and ultimately serves us what his main goal was.
NickNaylor2Face - 7/24/2014, 1:57 PM
LOOK WHAT WE HAVE HERE

TexasTwoFace - 7/24/2014, 1:57 PM
Anyone think we might get Avengers 3 in 2018, and then 2019 might be a movie simply called The Infinity Gauntlet or The Infinity War or something along those lines?
KingOnslaught - 7/24/2014, 1:57 PM
Zordan - 7/24/2014, 1:58 PM
