BOX OFFICE: Will The NINJA TURTLES Karate Chop The GUARDIANS Down To #2 This Weekend?

Analysts are predicting a very close race to #1 at the North American box office this weekend as Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles go head to head. It's early days, but right now it appears as if the Michael Bay helmed reboot may just win...

As of right now, it appears as if Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will take the top spot at the North American box office this weekend. However, it's going to face some serious competition in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy as analysts believe that both movies will hit somewhere around the $45 million mark. While these analysts are favouring TMNT as of right now, word of mouth is going to play a huge role on which movie wins. Should the Michael Bay produced reboot not be well-received during Thursday and Friday's showings, it's likely that Guardians - which has so far earned $117.95 million domestically - will come out on top. So far, James Gunn's Marvel movie has attracted a lot of over 25's, perhaps as a result of the edgy humour. TMNT appeals to a much younger audience AND those nostalgic to the characters they grew up with. Combine that with a big marketing push and it's going to be close! However, Captain America: The Winter Soldier easily topped Rio 2 earlier this year. When it comes to word of mouth though, Guardians of the Galaxy has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has only 33%. What do you guys think?

marvel72 - 8/6/2014, 11:55 AM
i hope not, shit movies shouldn't topple good ones.
yossarian - 8/6/2014, 11:57 AM
I thought there was a conspiracy to keep this from happening?
DaVinci31 - 8/6/2014, 11:57 AM
It better not.
SpiderFraud - 8/6/2014, 11:57 AM
I plan on seeing Guardians for the second time and then sneak into Turtles like I'm 14 again.
SauronsBANE - 8/6/2014, 11:58 AM
Well, audiences consistently prove that they like paying money for crap (see: every Transformers movie), so I won't be surprised at all to see TMNT knocking GotG down a spot.
shabat - 8/6/2014, 11:58 AM
I look forward to your review blackandyellow.

as for this, I imagine Guardians comes out on top. Which is sad for me because I care about the turtles more. Their look isnt all that great and I hear a lot of people make the same complaints. I can't imagine this isn't the friendliest kid movie either when there are Megan Fox ass shots in it.
Pasto - 8/6/2014, 12:00 PM
GOTG was awesome. I doubt TMNT will be better than it.
JoshuaGraham - 8/6/2014, 12:00 PM
Already saw the guardians of the galaxy, will be seeing TMNT this weekend.
sKeemAn - 8/6/2014, 12:02 PM
@spiderfraud

Ha! I was going to do the same thing.
DefcoN - 8/6/2014, 12:03 PM
It's Michael Bay, he has his own review-proof vest.
TheDudeRusty - 8/6/2014, 12:03 PM
I'll watch this how I watched TASM. Pay for a different film and sneak in.
dio - 8/6/2014, 12:04 PM
That's true@Yossarian. It's a conspiracy and a "hype train" and blah blah blah blah..what a twat lol
Nubase - 8/6/2014, 12:04 PM
It will topple GOTG simply because everyone knows mutant ninja turtles, they were a part of my childhood growing up back in the early 90's and kids now know who they are, the toys sell too, that's why this movie was made, just like the transformers movies, the toys sell and so do the movies.

This movie from what l hear is supposed to be good anyway, l mean GOTG has a talking raccoon and a talking tree!, if that movie was not a marvel movie it would have received so much hate.
sKeemAn - 8/6/2014, 12:06 PM
The kids are going to flock in droves to see this. This has been all my 5 yr old talks about for months. I'm hoping GOTG surprises and shows TMNT its stuff.

@skeeman

Great minds think alike!

I usually never see movies twice in the theaters, but I can't stop thinking about the movie.
yossarian - 8/6/2014, 12:10 PM
@dio - hahahhahahaha.

We can say twat now?
LMB10 - 8/6/2014, 12:12 PM
Given how many people actually think Bay directed this given how much he's attached to the production, the actual guy will likely never be associated with this
supes123 - 8/6/2014, 12:12 PM
im going to see tmnt, seen gotg and enjoyed it but i did not pay to watch it
dio - 8/6/2014, 12:13 PM
lmao @Yossarian ..didn't know we couldn't...did we just break the Matrix? If so don't unplug me.
TheRationalNerd - 8/6/2014, 12:15 PM
I say let the Turtles get some shell action. Guardians will make wads of cash regardless what happens but I have a feeling Ninja Turtles won't be as bad as these critics are making it out to be. It's Teenage Mutant Minja Turtles? lol How can you crucially judge it that bad?!
Valkyr - 8/6/2014, 12:15 PM
Let's hope not!
yossarian - 8/6/2014, 12:15 PM
I thought twat was one of the censored words. Like...[frick] and [foo foo] and CBMTrolls.
JoJo1982 - 8/6/2014, 12:17 PM
I feel bad for the director, since all of ya'll are thinking Michael Bay made this movie lol
TheRationalNerd - 8/6/2014, 12:18 PM
Lol, And why does it matter if it does or doesn't? Guardians is still bound to be a box office success.
TheRationalNerd - 8/6/2014, 12:18 PM
@JoJo1982

Mann what?! lol
Inhuman - 8/6/2014, 12:20 PM
Honestly, I think Ninja Turtles will. New property vs classic property. Nostalga always wins. I can't wait for ninja turtles =D
Nomis - 8/6/2014, 12:20 PM
I'm Gonna Get Funky at the movies this weekend! EYOW!!!

SpiderFraud - 8/6/2014, 12:21 PM
The scary thing is that the Director is actually worst than Michael Bay.

One of the reasons why the studious are not even marketing his name.
MrFridayNights - 8/6/2014, 12:21 PM
The director of TMNT is worse than Michael Bay lol
santoanderson - 8/6/2014, 12:21 PM
I was waiting to see the Rotten Tomatoes score for TMNT, and it it sucked, I'd see Guardians again instead. Looks like I'm seeing Guardians again...
MrFridayNights - 8/6/2014, 12:22 PM
I won't pay for that piece of shit I will watch GOTG for the second time and next weekend I will watch Let's Be Cops.
charlie2094 - 8/6/2014, 12:22 PM
Hopefully not, but Guardians will still absolutely make a great amount anyways so shouldn't matter too much.

Given how the Transformers films somehow make so much, wouldn't be surprised if this does come out on top...
ChanchoMcGrady - 8/6/2014, 12:23 PM
Seriously TMNT is not Michael Bay helmed. That's like saying Transformers is Stephen Spielberg helmed. That's a deceiving teaser, Josh.
GodzillaKart - 8/6/2014, 12:23 PM
Turtles will chop GOTG just like this guy chops coconuts!

TheBrownHornet - 8/6/2014, 12:23 PM
Um, I'm not concerned about the numbers like I use to be. GOTG is a great movie. Don't know about TMNT, but it doesn't look well.
Gusto - 8/6/2014, 12:24 PM
Hey, man! Step Up jokes are my turf!
You're about to get served, sucker!
ChrisEl - 8/6/2014, 12:24 PM
I'll be seeing GOTG for a second time because my boyfriend doesn't know that I've already seen it. Haha
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/6/2014, 12:25 PM
Who gives a [frick] how much money a movie makes
SniktBub - 8/6/2014, 12:26 PM
Calm down everyone, Josh is just baiting people using Michael Bay
