Terry Crews Reiterates Desire To Play LUKE CAGE In Upcoming Marvel And Netflix Series

We've heard from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Expendables 3 star Terry Crews about his interest in playing Luke Cage a number of times in the past, but now that Marvel and Netflix have given the character his own series, the actor makes it clear that he still wants the role...

While it appears as if Luke Cage is no longer heading to the big screen, the fan-favourite character will soon be joining Daredevil on Netflix in his own 12-episode series on the online streaming service. Talking to IGN Movies, The Expendables 3 star reiterated his desire to still play the former Power Man if the opportunity arises. "I would love to do Luke Cage. I heard they finally green-lit that whole thing and I would love to do something like that." As for whether or not he had any other superhero roles in kind, he added: "I have so many. I have to go back to Luke Cage just because he was our Superman. There were no African-American superheroes out there. He was the first. He was the man. He was the one. The only example we could look at. I remember then seeing Falcon and a couple of others. Even in the D.C. Universe there was Cyborg. But Luke Cage was the original one where you said ‘This is me. This is my guy. This is the character.’ So he’s the equivalent to Superman for me. But I have plenty. Second to Luke Cage would probably be The Hulk. The Hulk was amazing." Crews is of course busy with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but if he were to find the time, there's no denying that he would be a good choice.

Nomis - 8/12/2014, 6:03 AM
ONLY if it's a comedy.
Alien - 8/12/2014, 6:04 AM
Just give it to the dude, Marvel. I've had it with your white boy comedy casting, first Chris Pratt then Paul Rudd. Who's next, Steve Carrell? SMH

Doopie - 8/12/2014, 6:04 AM
I'd like to see cage set in the 70s and done proper blaxploitation style. It'll never happen but still
batmanvsuperman - 8/12/2014, 6:04 AM

And since MARVEL is basically turning into Comedy Central with their live action properties they might as well use him.
CherryBomb - 8/12/2014, 6:06 AM
Yeah I don't see why they just don't make it happen.
He's literally perfect for Cage.
The fans want it, Terry wants it. Do it Marvel!
CherryBomb - 8/12/2014, 6:08 AM
And if Marvel didn't waste Amanda Righetti for a crappy cameo at the end of Cap, then we coulda had her as Jessica Jones! :'(

RorMachine - 8/12/2014, 6:08 AM
No thanks. Seriously, dude is pushing 50.
GL - 8/12/2014, 6:09 AM
At least with him they wouldn't have to worry about him cutting or gaining weight. You can start shooting right after casting him.
Zarog - 8/12/2014, 6:10 AM
I wanted Henry Simmons as Cage, but they already cast Simmons as some random character on AoS.
Alien - 8/12/2014, 6:11 AM
Guy might be pushin' 50, but black don't crack. Besides, bet he's more fit than any of our lazy asses.
Klone - 8/12/2014, 6:12 AM
How about, no.
BatManiac - 8/12/2014, 6:12 AM
I'd be cool with Terry Crews as Luke Cage.
GinjaNinja - 8/12/2014, 6:16 AM
He's perfect for the role. just make him a tad more serious
SuperCat - 8/12/2014, 6:16 AM
What @ ror said. Need someone younger.

Nomis - 8/12/2014, 6:16 AM
@ Yossarian - The first of my many acolytes as I plot to take over this site ala Agent Smith did in the MATRIX TRILOGY!

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! <- Evil laugh!

actually... I don't know who he is.
soforizo - 8/12/2014, 6:16 AM

Do it Burn Notice style... Action + Comedy where he gets hired to do odd jobs. Nuff said.
Doopie - 8/12/2014, 6:18 AM
plasticman - 8/12/2014, 6:18 AM
@Alien- You really have a problem with Chris Pratt? You may be the first person that I've heard say this. And Paul Rudd...I'm sure this isn't your first choice (that's why you ranting) but give the man a break. You sound like a CBM'er from the 80's dissing on Michael Keaton.

I'm okay with Terry Crews in this role. We can't attach Idris Elba to everything and I it's hard for me to envision Michael Jai White in this role. The only thing that I chuckle at with Terry Crews is how he lost on Stars Earn Stripes.
soforizo - 8/12/2014, 6:20 AM
The guy is 46, could probably easily do this till 52 or 53. Marvel only needs him for a short run series anyhow.
LoudLon - 8/12/2014, 6:20 AM
I like Crews but I can't see him as Luke Cage. Just because he's big and bald doesn't make him right for the part. I will, however, give yet another nod for Michael Jai White. Either T'Challa or Luke Cage, the guy would be perfect for either, because he not only has the build and looks, he's also a more versatile actor.
Nomis - 8/12/2014, 6:21 AM
@ yossarian - LOL!!!!

Only if you wear that yellow costume like reverse Flash!
Starfox - 8/12/2014, 6:22 AM
@Alien

LMAO!!
CaptShipwreck - 8/12/2014, 6:23 AM
Shit age aside... He's new age cage you dig ...
Doopie - 8/12/2014, 6:24 AM
Crews and White may look the part but I see neither of them leading a Marvel movie, sorry. White is a slightly better actor but neither can pull off the acting requirements as far as I see it.

For BP I'd much prefer they cast someone who is actually African so there's no danger of the 'Storm Syndrome' from X1/2
RorMachine - 8/12/2014, 6:25 AM
It's not just his age, I don't think much of him as an actor. Comedy..sure, he;s fine..but in action roles he just shouts and scowls. He's laughable in the Expendables..though they all are to be fair.
soforizo - 8/12/2014, 6:30 AM
@RorMachine

That's not something a great action director or choreography team couldn't fix.
slickrickdesigns - 8/12/2014, 6:31 AM
He would make for a good Luke Cage… I'm all for Crews, just hope they don't cast some goofball as Iron Fist.
McGee - 8/12/2014, 6:32 AM
...I wanted him for Puck.
Nomis - 8/12/2014, 6:34 AM
@ slickrickdesigns - LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the greatst Post Ever!
0megaDaGod - 8/12/2014, 6:35 AM
He was BORN for this role
Battabing - 8/12/2014, 6:35 AM
@soforizio,

Now we know where hack supreme, Greg Land, traced those pics from.

As for Crews, I'm not sure. Every time I see him I wanna laugh. I wouldn't take him seriously as Luke Cage.
RorMachine - 8/12/2014, 6:36 AM
OR, they could just , y'know, hire a better actor??
Barchiel - 8/12/2014, 6:39 AM
Doopie, shut the hell up.
