Sharlto Copley Set For Lead Role In POWERS; Michelle Forbes Cast As 'Retro Girl'

It seemed like the small screen adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming's Powers was never going to happen (especially after a failed pilot), but District 9 star Sharlto Copley has now been cast as the lead, with The Killing's Michelle Forbes joining him...

Sony's Playstation Network is bringing some serious star power to Powers with District 9 and Maleficent actor Sharlto Copley set as the lead in the series which is based on the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming comic book. He'll play Christian Walker, while it was recently revealed that The Following's Susan Heyward will be his partner, Deena Pilgrim. They're tasked with investigating murder cases involving superpowered individuals. Walker is described as "charismatic" and having once, "possessed super powers, but lost them in a battle with a super-human mass killer. He now uses his singular expertise to investigate crimes in the Powers community." Michelle Forbes (The Killing) meanwhile, "is the undisputed super star of the Powers community. An icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen, her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand." Some fans dismissed Powers when it was revealed that it would be coming to the Playstation Network instead of a TV network, but with Hannibal's David Slade set to direct the first two episodes and a cast which also includes Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor and more, it could be one to watch out for! What do you guys think?

District 9 was one of the most horrifyingly depressing films I've ever seen.

The last scene when he was making the flower out of that scrap metal had me in tears.
Pasto - 8/18/2014, 9:32 AM
And don't even get me started on the scene where they make him kill that alien.

I haven't seen Elysium yet. Shit, I really need to catch up on some things.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/18/2014, 9:40 AM
That is some very out-of-left-field casting. Two talented, experienced actors who don't make any sense as those characters. Certainly a step up from Jason Patric, I must admit.

Y'know, it's easier to come up with successful TV series Michelle Forbes wasn't on than ones she's appeared in. Like I'm pretty sure she was never on Gunsmoke.
NovaCorpsFan - 8/18/2014, 9:40 AM
District 9 was one of the best sci-fi movies. ever made in my opinion.

I wonder if they're still killing Retro Girl right away, or if they'll build up her character first. (And no, that's not a spoiler; the first fricken issue is titled "Who Killed Retro Girl?") I hope they come up with a more satisfying resolution to that case.

Has anybody managed to see the FX pilot? I'd really love to see how badly they screwed it up.
MrNiklander - 8/18/2014, 9:45 AM
@NovaCorpsFan Sharlto Copley easily made this movie [frick]ing awesome
DrainBamage - 8/18/2014, 9:47 AM
Michelle Forbes has yet to do a show that I don't like. TNG, Homicide Life on the Street, 24, BSG and Orphan Black. The woman knows how to pick winners, so I'll check this out.

@DrainBamage:

Everyone who loved The Wire needs to be tied to a chair and made to watch the first few seasons of Homicide. That show practically saved television from itself.
CherryBomb - 8/18/2014, 10:00 AM
I adored the casting of the original Pilot.
It's a shame that show couldn't happen.

They really seem to be going in a totally different direction with this cast.
JoJo1982 - 8/18/2014, 10:03 AM
Thats funny I was just watching district 9 and old boy yesterday
bayouboyz - 8/18/2014, 10:04 AM
I hope he is in Avengers 3, so Marvel can have the whole Oldboy remake cast in it.
MercwithMouth - 8/18/2014, 10:07 AM
Haven't seen District 9, but Copley was great in A-Team.

@DudeGuyMan

Awesome gif, great scene.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/18/2014, 10:15 AM
With Spike Lee as Black Panther!
PeterJSonQuill - 8/18/2014, 10:20 AM
Love Sharlto Copley! He always gives a great effort in anything he's in. Anybody else think he'd make a great kooky Time Lord? Now I'd definitely love to see that!
Archgoat - 8/18/2014, 10:22 AM
I really like District 9 but thought that Copley was terrible in Elysium. He is certainly capable actor but that role sucked.
Jollem - 8/18/2014, 10:23 AM
haven't...seen...district 9???

PunkRockJesus - 8/18/2014, 10:26 AM
