The reveal from Robert Kirkman that Daryl Dixon might in fact be gay was met by the response we've all come to expect from some fans, but equally as many pointed out that it could be an interesting direction to take the character in. Talking to TV Line recently, showrunner Scott M. Gimple said that while Daryl's sexuality won't be addressed this year, they're pleased that such speculation and interest exists. "We know all sorts of things about the characters that we haven’t revealed. [But] we’re not holding back information on Daryl’s sexuality as any sort of big reveal. The fact that there’s still a question as to what Daryl’s orientation is in Season 5 absolutely speaks to Daryl’s character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways. We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick. That’s been a very satisfying journey for all of us on the creative side to portray. [And] he’s still on that journey." He adds, "This is a character who is going to continue to grow closer to the other characters and let his guard down, and let them see just who he is, in every way." However, despite the fact that The Walking Dead won't be addressing this particular plot point in season five, there are plans in place to introduce a male gay character, but he wouldn't reveal when exactly that will be. If they're following the comic books, this will likely be Aaron or even enigmatic new character "Jesus". What do you guys think of these comments? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

The gay character is either Aaron or Paul "Jesus" Monroe.

Also first.
ThunderStorm - 8/26/2014, 5:27 PM
seems unnecessary.
Jaspion - 8/26/2014, 5:28 PM
Carl looks kinda gay in the comics now
Omarvls - 8/26/2014, 5:29 PM

Daryl is gay?

bigdannymac - 8/26/2014, 5:30 PM
What does it even matter?

None of the Darryl fans watch to see who he will "end up with". We just want to see Darryl kick all kinds of Walker ass!
batz11 - 8/26/2014, 5:31 PM
Is the gay guy the one that started the zombie apocalypse?
If not, then who cares if he or any other character is gay, not a big deal in any realm unless it adds to the show...
BlackIceJoe - 8/26/2014, 5:32 PM
I feel like if they make him gay it just to make him gay. There is nothing from any of the episodes I've seen that said he was gay. I have only seen the opposite. You can tell Daryl likes Carol and Beth. So why change that now.
DrDoom - 8/26/2014, 5:33 PM
Walking Dead is overrated anyway
McGee - 8/26/2014, 5:33 PM
ManofSteel23 - 8/26/2014, 5:33 PM
I know we live in a time where it is more acceptable for this sort of development, but its seem they would be doing it just for the sake of have something different for a beloved character, hes a hard man that everyone routes for because hes a bad ass, and to make him gay after 5 years would just be weird
blackandyellow - 8/26/2014, 5:36 PM
batz is just saying that because the women in Minnesota are harrier than their men.
batz11 - 8/26/2014, 5:42 PM
We need that fur for warmth, my latest boo rocks the locks...
BANE5000 - 8/26/2014, 5:47 PM
If Daryl is gay, who cares, he's still a badd ass zombie killer :]
batz11 - 8/26/2014, 5:50 PM
...and Carol does look like a man...
blackandyellow - 8/26/2014, 5:59 PM
damn batz, that's a fine piece of ass, but she really needs a unibrow to pull the whole look together.
Ryden - 8/26/2014, 6:00 PM
Why is it that whenever there's talk of making a character gay everyone's knee jerk reaction is to say "Oh well, they're just making him gay to make him gay - no point." So does that mean that every gay character ever is just a gimmick? [frick] you guys. I hope Daryl does come out as gay, it'd be a really interesting aspect of his character to delve into. Especially considering his brother's, and by extension (most likely) his family's attitude towards race it wouldn't be a surprise if he grew up in a homophobic environment. What an interesting scenario Daryl would find himself in that he feels more free to open up at the end of the world? GO FOR IT AMC!!
McGee - 8/26/2014, 6:02 PM
That is true...on the show, Daryl has turned down a lot pussy.
McGee - 8/26/2014, 6:04 PM
SigmaCenturion - 8/26/2014, 6:05 PM
Makes sense and would add to more of why he got beat by his dad. They did show a bunch of scars on him. And he has turned down a lot of girls in the show.
VikingKing - 8/26/2014, 6:07 PM
If he's gay that makes him even more interesting. If not, he's still awesome. Either way we're all going to be along for the ride. I just don't want him to die.
Pheezmatic - 8/26/2014, 6:14 PM
Mmmmm batz...that girls armpits make my teeth tingle with excitement...mmmm
homodrome - 8/26/2014, 6:18 PM
I'm gay and I don't think I woulda turned Carol down.
anthonok - 8/26/2014, 6:23 PM
Sigh. I'm sure this won't happen. They just want to drum up attention for the new season, but I wouldn't put it past them. It's cool to do these sort of things just to do them for the shock factor these days. Every character is becoming either gay or race swapped or gender swapped because it draws extra attention.
Carl - 8/26/2014, 6:23 PM
If youve read the comics there is a gay scouting couple who leads a few survivors to the first community they find after the prison.
Bl00dwerK - 8/26/2014, 6:33 PM
I never once wondered about Dary'l sexuality. If anyone was it's because they were wanting it to be something, not because of any cues from the show itself...
McGee - 8/26/2014, 6:33 PM

Spooks - 8/26/2014, 7:09 PM
I wouldn't bang Carol either with Beth standing right over there! Ey oh!

@Ryden It's not the fact that ANY gay character is a gimmick. Introduce a gay character and that is fine. It is when characters just magically turn gay that it comes off like something cheap. Willow from Buffy for example.
String - 8/26/2014, 7:18 PM
Kirkman recently said that Paul "Jesus" Monroe was coming to The Walking Dead so I'm sure that is the character that Scott is referring to. It also fits for his character to be introduced this season since they are close to getting to that portion of the comics.

And regarding Daryl's sexuality, it doesn't matter to me. It actually does make sense that he is gay because I don't see Carol's advances to him -in particular in 3x01 when they were guarding at the prison -being recipocated by Daryl. I actually saw it as her teasing him because she already knows he isn't going to make advances towards her. Anyone who says there is mutual romantic feelings is reading way too much that relationship. If Daryl is gay -he will continue to be a kickass character. His sexuality is the least important part of his persona.
Spooks - 8/26/2014, 7:29 PM
@batz11 I literally just threw up a little in my mouth from that picture...

LoudLon - 8/26/2014, 7:38 PM
I don't really see how it matters what the character's sexuality is. I can't imagine it having any kind of bearing on story or the character's ultimate fate. We already know all we need to know about him -- that he's had a hard life, that he's come a long way from the redneck trash he started out as in the show, and that he's all kinds of bad-ass. That's all that matters.
JohnWilkesBooth - 8/26/2014, 7:56 PM
Walking Dead gets worse and worse every season. Give it up and FUUUCK OFF!
Berserker187 - 8/26/2014, 8:25 PM

Inhuman - 8/26/2014, 8:50 PM
All I care about is that they don't kill off Daryl. Daryl is my favorite character
MarvelMistress - 8/26/2014, 9:18 PM

When is presenting a popular character as being gay 'Liberal propaganda" ?

I don't think it will be Darryl in the end, because Jesus,a character that is also bad ass and happens to be gay ,is coming to the show and Darryl has become a sex symbol with legions of female fans that would revolt if their main guy was "batting for the other team".

Kirkman isn't pushing a liberal agenda,he's using old fashioned promotion to sell a product, that being TWD by teasing something that will generate discussion and build up interest.

Most people seem to be "whatever" about it but a vocal minority of pros and cons have "swallowed the bait" and are doing exactly what Kirkman and AMC want by losing their sh.t about it.

Funny thing is some of your fears of "liberal dumb ass" ideas have already been explored on the show.

The Governor restricted gun use to his goons and the people of his town suffered for it even after they went to the prison because many of them could not contribute to the defense of the community when the walker outbreak occured and when the Governor arrived at the gates.

The "Lets try to understand the walkers" mindset was explored with the psycho Lizzie and that was resolved in a rather right wing manner by Carol who had a similar mindset at the prison before she was expelled.

Lastly,we saw again what happens when the group disarmed themselves to get into Terminus.

So the show has been presenting characters with a more right wing view point, they just are not the dominant voices in the group.

It seems to me by your reaction that a character that you really like may be "homofied" and that's giving you some
kind of crisis which seems to be reflected in your Michael Sam comment which is totally out of "ahem" left field and
has nothing to do with anything.

Perhaps its another example in your mind of the liberal agenda corrupting the macho world as when Michael Sam had to put his open gayness on display during the NFL draft or Kirkman mentioning Homosexuality in the same breath as bad ass Darryl Dixon who couldn't possibly go from being a man's man to being a man whose into men without making your head explode.

We have already seen chicks kissing on this show so it shouldn't be that much of a leap that some gay men managed
to stay alive during the end of the world as well and will seek others like themselves to hook up with.

Relax,it won't be Darryl, but a gay male character is gonna be apart of this series future so brace yourself.

Joementum - 8/27/2014, 3:49 AM
Guess that means it will become Emmy worthy.

Modern Family is far from Best Comedy.
muttonman - 8/27/2014, 5:05 AM
I would rather he be more like the Enroljas character from Les Miserables, where people question his sexuality because he doesn't want to be in a relationship due to his devotion to the cause, not because he's actually gay... or maybe like Agent 47 from Hitman, just has no sexual desires because he's to busy kicking ass...
DeathAdder - 8/27/2014, 5:34 AM
Making Daryl gay will be the jumping shark moment of the show. It will go down hill from there. They're better off killing the character.
WelcomeBackFrank - 8/27/2014, 6:10 AM
The way Daryl acts on the show doesn't read as gay at all. It's clear he likes Carol and Beth. By making him gay just to appease the LGBTQ crowd would be like making Claire gay on "Heroes"--- serves no purpose; makes no sense. Besides, "The Walking Dead" already have a lesbian on the show. If it's Aaron or Paul that's brought in and he's a gay dude... so be it, but don't make Daryl suddenly gay just to impress gay friends or for shock value.

I know the LGBTQ crowd has their little community and they've become more accepted or tolerated by the media and socially-liberal folks out there, but a lot of the times, like comics, it seems they're only included or brought in to just be 'culturally diverse' or politically correct. Not saying a homosexual man couldn't kick more zombie ass than a heterosexual man; same with a lesbian vs. a heterosexual woman. I mean we have gays, lesbians, and transgenders who fight in the military and can do the job just as good as heterosexual people, but it just seems like Hollywood shoehorns in certain groups, races, etc. to not get angry letters written to them or, "I can get an Oscar or Emmy if I do this...."
