The CGI cape allows them to make it flow however they want. It looked really good in Man of Steel. I didn't even know it was CGI until I read about it.

If you'd seen the behind the scenes of the Thor movies, you'd know how difficult it is to shoot with an actual cape. The damn thing flew over Hemsworth's head more than it actually moved appropriately.
