Matthew Vaughn Reveals 90% Of His Story Made It Into X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

When it was revealed that Matthew Vaughn would not direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, the majority were hugely disappointed. The only plus side was that Fox turned to X-Men and X-2 helmer Bryan Singer to take over, but just how much of Vaughn's take on the "inbetweenquel" remained? "I’d say 90%," the filmmaker told Collider while talking to them about Kingsman: The Secret Service. "I mean, we worked on the script [Simon] Kinsberg and I. It was a really tough decision for me, because I pulled out just because I’d finished the Kingsman: The Secret Service script at the same time and I was like “My god if I don’t make a fun spy movie right now, somebody else’s going to do it.” And I think there’s five coming out next year now. So we’re going to be the first of it not the last." That explains that, but how many tweaks did Singer make?

"Bryan [Singer] did a few things, which I thought were genius that weren’t in my script," he revealed. "I had Juggernaut breaking into the Pentagon, he changed it to Quicksilver and did that [frick]ing brilliantly, I have to add. My idea was the sentinels at the end, I wanted them to look like Mystique. I thought there should be thousands of mystiques attacking them in the future. He changed a few more of the mutants, but it was pretty close. Yeah, it was pretty close." What will be interesting now of course is how X-Men: Apocalypse turns out WITHOUT Vaughn's involvement. Will Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer recapture this same magic or will we end up with a botched Apocalypse like "The Phoenix Saga" in X-Men: The Last Stand? We'll have to wait and see...
