Why didn't Leia pick up a lightsaber after Return of the Jedi? In the video below, Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams sheds some light on that, explaining her reasoning for not embracing the same path as her brother and seemingly confirming that the new trilogy will be doing away with the idea that someone needs to be young to learn the ways of the Force. However, it definitely sounds like General Leia Skywalker is going to be utilising the Force in some way in the movie, so that should be fun to see!
